SATUBDAY , 17 TH JUNE 1899 .

R. M. I. Girls.

R . M . I . GIRLS .

SATURDAY next , 24 th inst , will be Ex-Pupils' Day , and , as usual , the House Committee of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls will be pleased to see as many ex-pupils as can make it convenient to attend between the hours of 3 and 7 p . m . The Committee , however , wish to impress upon ex-pupils that the day is set apart for them , and them only , and that visitors are not invited or expected to attend .

The first meeting of the new Royal Arch Chapter formed at Torquay will be held at the Masonic Temple there on Monday next , at 6 . 30 p . m ., when fourteen candidates , four honorary , and four joining members will be ballotted for , and a number of exaltations will take place .

It is to be feared that the new order that has emanated from the office of the United Grand Lodge of Freemasons of England will be a sad blow to country dignitaries and to some Masons in London . Hitherto at public dinners and other occasions such Masons have somewhat proudly

proclaimed their Brotherhood by the wearing of Masonic regalia ; indeed , civic decorations have been the sole glory of many country ceremonials . Now the decree has gone forth that Masonic regalia must not be worn at assemblies at which non-masons , and especially ladies , are present . This means

that a non-mason will never more see the badges and ribbons of Freemasonry . The Prince of Wales is responsible for this measure being taken , as , according to the official edict , the former practice was not calculated to increase the dignity of the Order . — " Court Journal . "
