REPORTS OF MEETINGS .

We shall be pleased to receive particulars of Masonic meetings for insertion in our columns , and where desired will endeavour to send a representative , to report Lodge or other proceedings .

ROYAL ALFRED LODGE , No . 780 . THE quarterly meeting of this Lodge was held at the Star and Garter Hotel , Kew Bridge , on Friday , 9 th inst ., under the presidency of Bro . Justin Allen , who was supported by Bros . Charles Robinson I . P . M ., H . T . Gomm S . W ., H . T . Johnson J . W ., F . J . Larkman P . M . Sec , H . R . Worth S . D ., Ridley acting J . D ., J . H . Willie I . G ., W . J . Cornwell D . C , Lesueur A . D . C ., Eydemann and T . H . Dorey Stewards , Past Masters B . E . Blasby , Charles Coombs , W . J . Gomm , W . T . Purkiss ; Bros . Halstead , Furness , J . Roper , H . P . Roper , F . R . Roper , H . Perry , A . W . Larkman , A . H . Bridger , J . H . Paveley .

The Lodge was opened in due form with solemn prayer , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . Paveley having very well answered the questions leading to the second degree the Lodge was opened up and he was passed as a Fellow Craft . The Lodge was resumed in the first degree and Mr . Archibald James Robinson was duly initiated , the charge after the initiation being impressively rendered by the Worshipful Master .

Bro . James Morgan Long was balloted for as a Joining Member , and unanimously elected . The Lodge was then closed in peace and harmony . In the adjoining banqueting room of the Hotel the Lodge and its visitors enjoyed a most excellent dinner , prepared with characteristic judgment and completeness by Bro . Captain Purkiss , V . D . After the banquet , in the intervals of the usual Loyal and Fraternal toasts , a most excellent entertainment was furnished by various Brethren .

Bro . H . T . Gomm sang the Bedouin ' s Love Song , and Tosti ' s "Good-bye " most admirably ; the Initiate signalled his first appearance in Lodge by singing " The Jovial Monk , " and other songs , with capital effect ; Bro . W . J . Gomm P . M . delighted his audience with " Love can come in at the Window ; " Bro . Furness sang "Brighton ; " Bro . Carl Brandt , the well known basso , evoked an ovation by his magnificent rendering of " The Landlord ' s Daughter , " " Dusky Darlin ' , " and "Tbe Widow at Windsor ; " and Bro . H . T . Johnson recited Kipling ' s " Ballad of Fisher ' s Boarding House . "

The Banquet was capitally selected and served , the wines being of tha choicest brands . The entertainment was of a very high order , and the speeches , though commendably brief , were all in the happiest vein . Altogether , this flourishing Lodge may be congratulated upon having added to its records another most eminently successful and enjoyable meeting .

SKELMERSDALE LODGE , No . 1658 . THE regular meeting was held on Thursday , 25 th ult ., at the Surrey Masonic Hall , Camberwell , the chair being taken by the popular Worshipful Master Bro . William Croxson , who received the able assistance of his Officers , as follow : Bros . Erie Douglas Side I . P . M ., R . Gabell S . W ., T . J . Rawlings 3 . W ., J . Hill P . M . Treas ., W . H . Boys P . M . Sec , J . Farmer S . D ., E . S . Rice J . D ., J . Thorneloe I . G ., J . W . Sandell A . D . C ., J . Gibbs Steward , A . E . Kipps Org ., J . Whiteman acting Tyler .

There were also present Past Masters H . B . Buckeridge , R . Rowlands , G . White , Humphrey Cohen , & c , and Bros . S . Morris , B . Cohen , E . Wass , J . C . Davies , Sidney Smith , W . Hammerstone , D . Guntoh , P . Everill , E . Smyth , C . Lubbock , C . H . Sisman , W . Perrin , R . A . Rees , J . Pickering , A . Davia , P . H . Twitchin , E . A . Wass , J . Humphries , W . The Visitors included Bros . H . 0 . Parker S . D . 975 , W . J . Faull 101 , E . Vernon 26 S 6 , G . Lavingston P . M . 857 , R . O . Side 183 , A . Coles 2187 , J . Wynman , and others . The Lodge being duly formed the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . There wore five candidates for passing present , namely Bros . J . Humphries , W . Biles , W . R . Hammerstone , J . 0 . Davies , and F . A . Marlow , who answered the questions leading to the second degree , were entrusted and retired . Tho Lodge was opened in the second degree , and in due course the candidates were passed as Fellow Crafts .

The W . M . resumed the Lodge to the first degree , and Messrs . Gustav Wagner , Percy Alfred Nilen , and William Henry Edwards were presented as candidates for initiation , the ballot having been previously proved unanimous in their favour . The three gentlemen had the privilege of being initiated into the mysteries of Ancient Freemasonry . By desire of the W . M . Bro .

Side I . P . M . gave the ancient charge . The working was perfectly rendered and highly appreciated ; it was a somewhat trying ordeal for the W . M ., having to pass live candidates , and initiate three , but Bro . Croxson proved more than equal to the occasion , performing both ceremonies in a most impressive and perfect manner .

Bro . J . Hill P . M . Treasurer of the Lodge , having been absent at the installation , on account of severe indisposition , and who was unanimousl y returned to the office at the election meeting , was now invested by the W . M ., and duly acknowledged tho compliment paid him by the Lodge . Bro . Side I . P . M . proposed that the sum of ten guineas be added to the list of the W . M ., who will represent the Lodge as Steward at the Boys

Festival . Bro . Buckeridge P . M . had much pleasure in seconding the proposition , which would make the total of the list twenty-five guineas . At this point a Brother rose and said he was the possessor of a five guinea vote , and if tho W . M . would kindly accept it he would be pleased to give that on the list also . Bro . Croxson thanked the Brother for his kindness , and would be pleased to accept his offer .

The W . M . announced that the summer outing would take place on Wednesday , 12 fch July . Two gentlemen were proposed for initiation , and after some further Masonic transactions the Lodge was closed , and the Brethren adjourned to partake of an excellent dinner , provided by the esteemed hostess , Mrs .

Venables , which Bro . Whiteman superintended , well looking after tho comfort of the guests . The cloth removed , the W . M . proposed the Loyal toast of the Queen . It being the 80 th birthday of Her Majesty he wished her many happy returns of the day , and felt sure his sentiments would be fully endorsed by a most hearty reception of the toast , which was accorded , the National Anthem being sung . This was followed by tho toast of the Grand Master , Pro Grand Master , and the rest of the Grand Officers , which was cordially received .

The I . P . M . proposed the health of the W . M ., feeling it was quite unnecessary for him to point out the good qualities of their chief . All had witnessed his able working that day , and he had not the slightest doubt tho remaining work of the year would be carried out as perfectly . The Brethren wished him a prosperous year of office , and good health to carry out his duties in the Lodge .

Bro . Croxson most sincerely thanked Bro . Side for his very kind remarks , and the Brethren for receiving the toast in so cordial a manner . He was pleased to see the Officers doing their woi'k in such an admirable way . Ho thanked the Lodge for the ten guineas added to his list on behalf of the Boys School , and also the Brother who gave him , his five guinea vote . He hoped the Brethren would attend to his call in the matter of the summer

outing , which they wanted to make a great success . The Brethren need not be afraid of giving him too much work ; he looked forward to being called upon to perform many more ceremonies , and would do his best during the remainder of his year of office to place the Lodge in a still better financial condition than it at present occupied . He trusted that when he left the office which he had the honour to occupy at present , he might do so with the knowledge that he had given satisfaction .

The next toast the W . M . had before him was that of the initiates . The Brethren admitted that night would , he was sure , become ornaments of the Lodge ; the strict attention they had given to their initiation , and to the charge , showed they were interested , and he looked to them to make excellent and useful members . Bro . Nilen had already given proof of his willingness

to render assistance to the Lodge , by singing an excellent song , and this led him to hope they would not alone be ornarnentah but useful in their midst . In reply , Bro . Nilen said the way he had been received was most cordial . He did not know what to say , being the junior member of the Lodge , but as an honourable man he promised to strictly observe his obligation .

Bro . Edwards thanked the W . M . and Brethren for having accepted him as a Brother amongst them . He had been deeply impressed by the words at bis initiation , and it had long been his wish to become a Freemason . When he was sixteen years old he was employed at a Masonic insignia manufacturers , and had the pleasure of taking the clothing of the 33 ° to Golden Square , when the Prince of Wales attended ; and he had also waited on the late Grand Secretary Col . Shadwell H . Clerke .

Bro . Wagner thanked the W . M . for having initiated him into the Craft , and the Brethren for having accepted him as a member amongst them . The W . M . now gave the toast of the visitors , according them a most hearty welcome . He also congratulated Bro . White P . M . on the celebration of his silver wedding , and hoped to repeat the congratulation on the golden anniversary .

Bro . White said he was always pleased to attend the Skelrnersdale Lodge , knowing he would receive a most cordial reception . He thanked the W . M . for-his hospitality , also sincerely acknowledged his hearty congratulations on his silver wedding ; he felt it very doubtful if he would live to celebrate his golden wedding . Bro . Vernon thanked the W . M . and Brethren for their kind reception ;

the working he had witnessed that evening had been a Masonic treat , and was a great credit to the W . M . and the Lodge . He should be pleased to visit the Lodge again on a future occasion . Other visitors also suitably responded . The W . M . next presented the toast of the Past Masters , coupling with it the name of Bro . Hill Treasurer and Bro . Boys Secretary . The toast was regularly acknowledged .

The toast of the Officers was given and responded to , after which the Tyler closed a most pleasant meeting . Bro . A . E . Kipps Organist of the Lodge directed the musical arrangements , Bros . Rowlands , P . Nilen , H . Cohen , P . Everill , Mr . Willoughby and others adding greatly to the enjoyment of the company .

ENGINEER LODGE , No . 2599 . THE W . M . Bro . C . B . Wasser presided at the regular meeting of this Lodge , held at the Masonic Hall , Golden Square , W ., on Saturday , 10 th inst ., and was assisted by Bros . J . P . White S . W ., J . Coombs J . W ., L . H . Coles Treasurer , John Fitch Secretary , C . J . Sleight and W . Snowdon Deacons , R . J . Morgan I . G ., and a large number of other members . The Lodge was opened and the minutes of the last meeting were

confirmed . Bros . Charles Thomas Ruse 1341 , Frederick John Stead 1334 , and Harry Blake 1424 were accepted as joining members . Mr . John Gunn , Quarter-Master Sergeant of the Royal Engineers , was approved , and being in attendance was regularly initiated into the mysteries and privileges of the Order . Bros . Johnson and Warren having proved their proficiency aTs Craftsmen were duly raised to the rank of Master Mason , and took their seats in the Lodge .

Certain alterations in the Bye-laws of the Lodge were proposed for consideration at the next meeting , and upon tbe proposition of the W . M . a vote from the Lodge Funds was granted for the purpose of presenting a jewel to Bro . W . PI . Coles P . M . upon his retirement , in appreciation of his services as Treasurer since the foundation of the Lodge . Three candidates were proposed for initiation , andthere being no further business the Lodge was closed and the Brethren dispersed .

M . now gave the toast of the visitors , according them a most hearty welcome . He also congratulated Bro . White P . M . on the celebration of his silver wedding , and hoped to repeat the congratulation on the golden anniversary .

Bro . White said he was always pleased to attend the Skelrnersdale Lodge , knowing he would receive a most cordial reception . He thanked the W . M . for-his hospitality , also sincerely acknowledged his hearty congratulations on his silver wedding ; he felt it very doubtful if he would live to celebrate his golden wedding . Bro . Vernon thanked the W . M . and Brethren for their kind reception ;

the working he had witnessed that evening had been a Masonic treat , and was a great credit to the W . M . and the Lodge . He should be pleased to visit the Lodge again on a future occasion . Other visitors also suitably responded . The W . M . next presented the toast of the Past Masters , coupling with it the name of Bro . Hill Treasurer and Bro . Boys Secretary . The toast was regularly acknowledged .

The toast of the Officers was given and responded to , after which the Tyler closed a most pleasant meeting . Bro . A . E . Kipps Organist of the Lodge directed the musical arrangements , Bros . Rowlands , P . Nilen , H . Cohen , P . Everill , Mr . Willoughby and others adding greatly to the enjoyment of the company .

ENGINEER LODGE , No . 2599 . THE W . M . Bro . C . B . Wasser presided at the regular meeting of this Lodge , held at the Masonic Hall , Golden Square , W ., on Saturday , 10 th inst ., and was assisted by Bros . J . P . White S . W ., J . Coombs J . W ., L . H . Coles Treasurer , John Fitch Secretary , C . J . Sleight and W . Snowdon Deacons , R . J . Morgan I . G ., and a large number of other members . The Lodge was opened and the minutes of the last meeting were

confirmed . Bros . Charles Thomas Ruse 1341 , Frederick John Stead 1334 , and Harry Blake 1424 were accepted as joining members . Mr . John Gunn , Quarter-Master Sergeant of the Royal Engineers , was approved , and being in attendance was regularly initiated into the mysteries and privileges of the Order . Bros . Johnson and Warren having proved their proficiency aTs Craftsmen were duly raised to the rank of Master Mason , and took their seats in the Lodge .

Certain alterations in the Bye-laws of the Lodge were proposed for consideration at the next meeting , and upon tbe proposition of the W . M . a vote from the Lodge Funds was granted for the purpose of presenting a jewel to Bro . W . PI . Coles P . M . upon his retirement , in appreciation of his services as Treasurer since the foundation of the Lodge . Three candidates were proposed for initiation , andthere being no further business the Lodge was closed and the Brethren dispersed .

Lodge was regularly opened , and thi .: ! advanced to the second degree , when Bro . Cumming answered the questions , and was entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the third degree and the ceremony of raising was rehearsed , the Brother before named kindly acting as candidate . Bro . Ross ( who is S . W . of the Paxton Lodge ) was highly complimented on the first class manner in which he had performed the duties of W . M ,
