— : o : — BRO . JOHN SMYTH .

ON the 31 st ult ., the mortal remains of Bro . John Smyth I . G . of the Loyal Lodge , No . 251 , Barnstaple , were interred in the Cemetery . The deceased was a member of the firm of Smyth and Sons , outfitters and drapers , nnd was the fourth son of Mr . W . Smyth , J . P ., and leaves a widow and a family of young children to mourn his loss . He was an officer of the Loyal Lodge , the following members of whioh attended :

Williams , Bart . ) , G . C . Davie P . G . S ., J . Brewer P . P . GJ . W ., Joint , and Squire , stating their inability to attend . The cortege left the deceased's private residence in Ebberloy Lawn at noon . The blinds of all the houses in the town were drawn , and several of the shops in the vicinity of deceased's place of business and along the route were

partially closed . The coffin was carried on a bier , and was com . pletely covered with beautiful wreaths , one being from the Masons . The inscription on the coffin was— " John Smyth . Born 29 th August 1849 , died 27 th August 1892 . " The fnneral ceremony was performed by the Vicar of Barnstaple , the Rev . Dr . Newton .

BRO . William Butterfield , an official of the Midland Railway Company and an active Freemason , died at hia residence in Arboretum Square , Derby , on Saturday , the 10 th inst . He had been ill for a considerable time past , and therefore his death was not unexpected

He was born in Yorkshire , entered the Midland service forty years ago , and was for many years a travelling inspector in connection with the General Manager ' s Department . He had passed the chair of the Hartington Lodge , No . 1085 , and was also an Officer of the Provincial Grand Lodge .

THE funeral of Bro . Isaac Daore , who died , at his residence , Park Hotel , 194 Walton Breok Road , Liverpool , rather suddenly , on Sunday the 4 th inst ., took place at St . James ' s Cemetery , on the 7 th inst . The deceased was a member of the Downshire Lodge , No . 594 . Besides surviving relatives , there were present the following Officers and members of the Downshire Lodge : —Bros . J . Phelan W . M .,

The Grand Geometrician sought his bed , And took bis Spirit far beyond the Blue . His was a Life of Peace and Hope and

Love—A Life of Honour and Fidelity , A Life of Sympathy with Masonry , A Life that leads to tho Grand Lodge Above . I knew him well—although the Mystic Tie

Had not bound us for a long space of years ; But yet our Precepts made our joys and fears As one—for we shared true Fraternity .

Then let us live like him of whom I write—So tbat we join him in the Realms of Light . Winder House , Bradford , 13 th September 1892 .

On Thursday , tho 8 th instant , at thc regular meeting of the Harmony and Industry Lodge , No . 381 , Bro . S . H . Shorrock in the chair , Bro . Alderman Duxbury , the Mayor ot Preston , presented a beautiful banner to the Lodge , of

which he is a member . The banner , which is of silk , bears Mo boroug h arms , with Masonic symbols , and tho motto , Absque laborc nihill . " Bro . J . Wardley received the banner on behalf of the Lodge .
