LODGE OF SINCERITY , No . 174 . THE 128 th anniversary of this ancient Lodge was celebrated in good Blasonic fashion on Wednesday , at the Guildhall Tavern , Gresham Street , E . G ., when Bro . John Newton G . Purs . one of the Fathers of the Lodge , James Terry P . G . Swd . B ., Henry Jay P . BI ., W . J . Higgs P . BI ., John Bulmer P . M ., George Jones P . M .,

C . H . Webb P . BI . Sec , Henry Blagie , Frederick Haslock Prov . G . Chaplain Essex , E . L . Spencer Secretary 231 S , Charles Westwood W . BI . 1343 P . G . S ., F . W . Pilling P . G . S .. J . Allen 1329 , Samuel Knott 177 .

The retiring Master Bro . William Butcher Prov . G . S . of W . Essex opened the Lodge soon after four o ' clock , and after the minutes had been read and confirmed , proceeded to raise Bro . G . H . Blade to the sublime degree . Thus the most solemn as well as the most joyous ceremonies of the Craft wore witnessed on this occasion .

The Lodge being resumed to the second degree Brother William Harvey was presented by Bro . P . M . Lacey and signified his assent to the ancient charges and regulations . A Board of twenty-one Installed Blasters was then formed , when Bro . Harvey was regularl y installed as Worshipful Master by his predecessor .

Upon the return of the Brethren the usual salutations were given . The new Blaster's first act was to appoint and invest his Officers for the year : — Bros . Jas . J . Mustart S . W ., Joseph Bayley J . W ., Charles Lacey P . M . ( for the fifteenth time ) Treasurer , C . H . Webb ( for the tenth year ) Secretary , G . A . Griffiths S . D ., W . J . Derby J . D ., W . J . Butcher proposed the health of the Worshipful Blaster , saying that Bro . Harvey was an old member of the Lodge , and it was

only his modesty that kept him from taking fche chair before . He was an excellent worker of the Craft ceremonies , and had filled every office in the Lodge , so that ho was sure that the Lodge under his direction would continue to increase in prosperity and importance . Bro . Harvey , who was received wifch such long and continued applause as sufficiently testified to his popularity , said he was taken quite aback by

their kind reception , for which ho thanked them most heartily . He could not say much on such an occasion , bufc all knew that his heart was devoted to Freemasonry , iu which cause he had expended the greater part of his time . He ought perhaps to have been W . M . years ago , but he had always done his best for old Sincerity Lodge and he would still continue to preserve its refutation .

Bro . James Terry Secretary of the R . M . B . I . responded for the Blasonic Institutions , in one of his well known humourous and spirited speeches . He need not appeal in the Lodge of Sincerity on behalf of the Blasonic Charities , because for the last sixty or seventy years they had never failed in their support . The next Festival for the Benevolent would take place on 26 th

February , and there was a list of 115 candidates . Unfortunately there were only twenty-four vacancies , and unless the Committee received largely increased support they could not enlarge the number . To take five more candidates would represent the capital of .-65 , 000 . He therefore urged those who had subscribed to subscribe again , and those who had not done so to commence at once .

The Past Blasters , the Officers , the Visitors , were all duly complimented , and the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a happy termination at a late hour . An excellent programme of music was arranged by Bro . W . J . Derby , who was assisted by Bros . Frank Swinford , Fredk . Eussell , W . J . Jones , and T . J . Noakes .

The new Master of the Lodge Bro . William Harvey was born at Aberdeen , on 30 th August 1845 , and was initiated into Freemasonry in the Lodge of Sincerity , October 1873 . He was exalted in the Sincerity Chapter in 1890 , and was one of the Founders of tho recently consecrated Victorian Chapter , No . 2184 , of which he was appointed Scribe E . Bro . Harvey takes

considerable interest—as a true Sincerity man—in the Charitable Institutions , and has qualified as a Life Governor of the Girls School and thc Benevolent Institution . He also acts as Treasurer of the City Permanent Blasonic Benevolent Institution , in which office his good influence is ever used for the benefit of the different Funds of the Craft .

DOMATIC LODGE , No . 177 . THE installation meeting of this Centenary Lodge was held on Friday , 10 th inst ., at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , when Bro . Thomas Henry Hobbs was duly placed in the chair of the Lodge in succession to Bro . W . E . Wigmore the chief of the past year . There was a full attendance of members and visitors , and the meeting proved very successful , the new Blaster appointing the following as his

assistant Officers for the year : Bros . T . N . Blorris S . W ., Walter S . Andrews J . W ., George Everett P . BI . P . G . Treas . England Treasurer , Thomas Blorris Secretary , James Stephens P . BI . P . P . S . G . D . Bucks S . D ., John Anley jun . J . D ., W . Hanes I . G ., It . B . Hopkins Org ., T . S . Smith D . C , P . S . Wallis A . D . C , H . N . Price P . BI . aud E . A . Brown Stewards , T . 0 . Edmonds P . M . Tyler .

Blr . George Everett was regularly elected and afterwards initiated , another candidate being also approved , but not being present his initiation was deferred . The usual sum . of twenty-five guineas was voted to the Institutions , the Boys School being this year in turn for the support of the Lodge , and the new Worshipful Blaster offering his services as Steward . Other business was disposed of aud the Lodge closed , the Brethren afterwards sitting down to the annual banquet , at the conclusion of which the usual toasts were given .

Having paid due attention to those of the Queen and the Grand Blaster , the W . BI . submitted the toast of the Pro Grand Blaster , the Deputy , and the other Grand Officers present and past . It was a great honour for the Lodge to have among its own members so important an Officer of Grand Lodge as its Treasurer , in the person of their Bro . George Everett , who was justly esteemed by all who knew him in Freemasonry . They were pleased

to have him again with them that night , and they were also pleased in having Brother Cottebrune , another Past Grand Officer , as a visitor . Those who attended Grand Lodge had the opportunity of judging how hard the Grand Officers bad to work iu the discharge of their duties to the Craft . Those they had the opportunity of coupling with the toast that evening were no exception to the rule , in fact had done much in their respective positions to advance tho welfare of the Order .

Bro . Everett said the Grand Officers appreciated very much the way in which the toast of their health was invariably submitted and received . He spoke of their visitor , Bro . Cottebrune , as one of the oldest Blasons in the Craft and one of the best known Brethren in Freeinasouty . When , thirty-six years ago , he was initiated into Freemasonry Bro . Cottebrune was the Senior Warden , and he had had the pleasure of knowing him intimately ever

. Bro . Cottebrune also replied . It was a source of great pleasure to him to attend the Lodge that evening . Forty years since he was received in it as a joining member , being proposed at that time by Bro . James Brett . He had always had great consideration for its members and love for the Lodge itself , as really it was his foster father , for although he received the light of Freemasonry on the continent , it was in the Domatic Lodge he became associated with the English Craft .

The Immediate Past Master rose to propose the toast of the W . M . It was a very pleasant duty that was imposed upon him by the task that now fell to his lot . What they had seen of the Worshipful Master in Lodge and at the banquet table convinced him that the work of the Lodge would not suffer in his hands . He hoped there was a happy year before the Blaster , one that would be beneficial to tbe Lodge .

The W . M ., m reply , tendered his sincere thanks . He was exceedingly pleased and very gratified that he had risen to the highest position it was possible for the Craft to confer on any of its members . It was nine years since he was received in fche Domatic—in the centenary year of the Lodge , the jubilee of Her Blajesty the Queen and the jubilee of the good Brother who initiated him , Brother H . N . Price . Those who desired to advance to the position he then occupied should zealouslv carrv out the work

of the Craft . He desired to say one word in regard to another matter . The Brethren had heard it remarked in the Lodge by their Treasurer Bro . George Everett that the Lodge voted twent ) -five guineas to one of the Institutions each year . Fortunately it was this year the turn of the Boys School , but it was unfortunate that it had not fallen two years later , as then he would be the proud representative of the Domatic Lodge at the centenary of that Institution . However , ho should endeavour to make his Stewardship on this
