had been voted to the Masonic charities during the year , and that the balance remaining in the bank was £ 21 lis . The Lodge , whieh has been established about twenty-eight years , by its constant support of the charities established by the Order , is the owner in perpetuity of a considerable number of votes , vested in its Officers . The W . M . for the time being is a Vice-Patron of the

Eoyal Masonic Institution for Boys , Vice-President of the Aged Freemasons Male Fund , Vice-Patron of the West Lancashire Educational Institution , and also of the Alpass Widows' Fund , and Life Governor of the Hamer Benevolent Fund , while the other Officers are endowed with somewhat less power . This is eminently satisfactory .

There was an unusually large assembly of the Brethren to witness tho installation of the W . M .-elect Bro . J . K . M'Myn . To Brother E . L . Adams was assigned the chief portion ofthe ceremony , the investiture of the Officers being performed by Bro . James Andrew . Both displayed considerable ability in the discharge of their functions .

The business having been gone through , the Brethren adjourned to refreshment , the Lodge being honoured with the presence of several visitors . After the banquet the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were given ,

interspersed with music , which made the proceedings sociable and enjoyable . Tho newly-elected W . M . was toasted with every display of Masonic honours , as was als > the retiring W . M . Bro . Thos . Daniels , to whom was also presented a beautiful jewel , for his able and handsome conduct of the Lodge during the last twelve months .

ARCHITECT LODGE , No . 1375 . THE annual meeting and festival of St . John took place at the Masonic Hall , Chorlton-curn-Hardy , on Friday , the 3 rd inst ., Brother Alfred Pickford W M ., the proceedings commencing soon after 3 p . m .

After the minutes had been read and confirmed , a ballot was taken for Mr . Chas . Augustus Klindworth , Salesman , Didsbury , and being favourable that gentleman was initiated into Freemasonry by the W . M . The working tools were presented by Bro . T . A . Holland J . W ., the antient charge being delivered by Bro . Charles Rawle S . W . Worshipfnl Master-elect .

Lodge having been advanced , a Board of Installed Masters was formed as follows : —Bros . Henry Nail Prov . G . Treas . Installing Blaster , Thos . Wilde Eice P . S . G . W . S . W ., Geo . E . Lloyd P . P . G . Tr . J . W ., G . A . Myers P . P . G . D . C . I . G . Bro . Eawle was presented to receive the benefits of installation by Bro . J . G . Bromley P . M ., Wardens , and Brethren were delivered respectively by Past Masters Cyril H . Beever , W . T . Hesketh , and A . ' Pickford .

The newly-installed Master then invested the following Officers , who were addressed by Bro . Hesketh , viz . : —Bros . T . A . Holland S . W ., J . Coupland J . W ., W . Dyson Fryer P . M . Bloomer , J . Southam P . M ., and T . W . Notton Stewards .

In proposing the re-election of Bro . John Bradshaw P . M . P . P . G . D . as Charity Eepresentative , Bro . Eawle , in very feeling terms , alluded to the serious illness which had prevented him from being present at the ceremony , and expressed deep sympathy with him under the circumstances , earnestly hoping that he would soon he restored to health and strength . Bro . Holland S . W . seconded the proposition , which , upon being submitted to the Brethren , was carried unanimously . ( As will bo seen from another column , our Bro . Bradshaw has since died , much to the regret of all his friends . ) .

The W . M . presented to the I . P . M . a handsome Past Master's jewel . He said : Worshipful Brother Pickford , in the name of the Architect Lodge and on behalf of my Brethren , I have much pleasure in presenting to you this jewel , and I ask you to accept it , to wear it , and ever to regard it as a slight token of the esteem , the high admiration , and fraternal affection in which you are so justly and deservedly held by every member .

Shortly after six p . m . the Brethren , numbering about fifty , adjourned to the dining room , where the festival of St . John was held . The usual loyal toasts having been honoured , Bro . Nail proposed the health of Bro . Eawle W . M . in a very able speech , which was listened to with attention , and rapturously applauded at its finish .

In response , Bro . Eawle said : " Let me first thank Bro . Nail for the kind words which he , with characteristic kindness , has spoken of me in proposing my health . And , Brethren , let me thank you most sincerely , most gratefully , and from the bottom of my heart , for the warm-hearted and cordial welcome you have given me on my first appearance in the chair of K . S ., and for the honour you have paid me in so enthusiastically responding

to this toast . I can assure you that I am proud to be a Mason ; I am proud indeed to be a member of the Architect Lodge ; but I am prouder still to be your Worshipful Blaster . The Architect Lodge has been a good school for me ; in it I have learned to esteem , to regard , and to believe Freemasonry to be one of the best and noblest things we have in this world . What is every Masonic ceremony we witness but an object lesson , where in heart-touching

words we have set before us the picture of a good life . The beautiful language and soul-stirring words of our ritual powerfully appealing to all that is good , and noble , and manly within us—to the best part of our nature , inciting us to try and attain in our own character and conduct the grand and splendid ideal of a true Blasonic life I For those who have the privilege of taking part in those ceremonies I would say , ' The words we speak with

our lips may we believe in our hearts , and what we believe in our hearts may we practice in our lives . ' And now , Brethren , in thanking you again for your kindness , let me hope that my year of office may be as happy as that of my predecessor , and that a portion of his mantle may fall upon me . " Bro . Eedfearn S . D . proposed the health of the Installing Blaster and the Past Blasters of the Lodge , while the toast of the newly-initiated Brother fell to the lot of Bro . Holland S . W .

only expressing the hope of every Brother present , and , in fact , all the Brethren in the Province , that their beloved P . G . B 1 . would soon be restored to perfect health . Lord Ebrington had always distributed P . G . collars amongst the Brethren favourably , and he trusted the able Past Masters of Lodge Ebrington would receive their just and due reward .

Bro . Leonard James S . W ., m proposing the health of the W . BI ., said he had worked through the different chairs with Bro . Hosking , which he had filled with great ability . He had no doubt that Bro . Hosking ' s year of office would prove unequalled in the history of Lodge Ebrington , for their genial W . Bro . W . During his year of office the Lodge had beeu worked most harmoniously , and whilst promoting the welfare of the Lodge , Bro . Blitchell had studied the comfort of the Brethren .
