Kent Charity Representatives.

KENT CHARITY REPRESENTATIVES .

EARL AMHERST Provincial Grand Master of Kent must have been greatly gratified at the heartiness of the welcome accorded to him by the Brethren of the Province , upon the occasion of the meeting of the Charity

Representatives of the . various Lodges of Kent , which took place on Friday of last week , at the Town Hall , Gravesend , kindly placed at their disposal by Bro . John Russell P . P . S . G . D ., Mayor of the Borough .

It was the first public appearance of Lord Amherst in the Province since his appointment to the honourable position of Pro Grand Master of England , by H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , and as his lordship entered the room to preside over the meeting the Brethren rose to their feet and greeted him with the utmost enthusiasm .

His lordship was attended by the following Provincial Officers : Felix Kite Past Junior Warden , Rev . Augustus Jackson Past Chaplain , William Russell Treasurer , Alfred Spencer Secretary , R . J . BeamishP . A . D . C , Frank Hitchens Registrar , George Naylor P . D . D . C , Arthur Ronaldson P . A . G . S ., R . Morley P . A . D . C , J . D . Terson P . G . P ., & c .

In highly complimentary terms Bro . William Russell welcomed Lord Amherst to Gravesend , recalling the fact that his lordship was a member of the Lodge of Freedom , under whose Banner that day ' s meeting was held . His lordship briefly responded , cordially thanking the Brethren for their warm and fraternal welcome .

The roll of the Lodges was then called over , and the representatives answered to their names . Several applications for assistance were brought before the meeting , and being all deserving cases were relieved from the Provincial Benevolent

Fund . The applications to the Masonic Charities were considered , and the three most pressing cases were adopted for support . Bros . William Russell and Felix Kite were elected to represent the Province at the various elections .

The President moved a vote of thanks to Bro . John Russell , for the use of the Town Hall , which enabled them to conduct their business with comfort and dignity . Bro . Russell , in reply , said he was always delighted to grant the use of the Council Chamber for worthy purposes ,

and he thought his lordship ' s visit was a great event for Gravesend . He was present upon the occasion , now nearly forty years ago , when Earl Amherst was installed Provincial Grand Master , and heartily congratulated his lordship upon

attaining the highest rank possible in the Craft . The meeting then dissolved , and the Brethren adjourned to the Old Falcon Hotel , where Bro . John Simpson served a delicious little dinner .
