, PRUDENCE AND INDUSTRY LODGE , No . 1953 . AT the regular meeting held at Chard , last week , Bro . G . Gawler ( Mayor of Chard ) was installed Worshipful Master , the ceremony being performed by Bro . R . C . Else D . P . G . M . Somerset P . G . D . England .

MASEFIELD LODGE , No . 2034 . THERE was a large attendance of members at the Moseley and Balsall Heath Institute on Monday , 13 th inst ., when Bro . Alderman F . E . Hallam was installed as Worshipful Master , the installation being conducted by Bro . S . G . Mason , Bro . Hallam ' s predecessor in the chair .

PANTILES LODGE , No . 2200 . AN emergency meeting , to relieve the next meeting in October , was held on Monday , 6 th inst , at the Pump Room , Tunbridge Wells , Bro . J . S . Fletcher W . M .

The business consisted of raising several Brethren and voting a sum oi ten guineas from the funds of the Lodge for the Boys Institution . A supper , excellently served , was afterwards enjoyed at the Kentish Hotel .

SCARISBRICK LODGE , No . 2295 . ON Tuesday , 7 th inst ., a numerous gathering of members and friends assembled at the Masonic Rooms , Lord Street , Southport , to take part in the ceremony of installing Bro . Alleyne Brown as W . M . for the ensuing year .

The ceremony of installation and investiture was efficiently performed by Bro . Joseph Lees P . M . and others . After the business proceedings a handsome Past Master ' s jewel was

presented to Bro . R . A . Chadwick , and a beautiful solid walnut " Wortley " Secretary ' s writing cabinet to Bro . Warwick Wood , with suitable inscriptions , in recognition of efficient services rendered to the Lodgo and to Freemasonry generally .

The Brethren afterwards adjourned to a banquet at the Victoria Hotel . The post prandial proceedings were of a most interesting and enjoyable character , many musical items being excellently rendered by the members and their friends , headed by Bro . Walter Wilkinson .

After the reading and confirmation of minutes , a ballot was taken for Mr . William Edward Brooks , Commercial Traveller , Fulwood , Preston , and being successful , this gentleman was regularly initiated into antient

Freemasonry by the W . M . Bro . Warburton was assisted in the ceremony by Bros . Schofield and Hall , the former giving the address in the N . E ., and the latter presenting and explaining the Working Tools , and delivering the Charm .

At 8 p . m . the Brethren sat down to a very substantial dinner , this being succeeded by the festive board , where Loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . That of the Initiate was proposed by Bro , Rushton , to which

Bro . Brooks responded in terms which evinced to the Brethren that this new recruit from the ranks of our " Ambassadors of Commerce " is certainly no tyro in the art of speechmaking .

The harmony of the evening was supplied by Bros . Stott , Rushton , and Kew . o o o LOXFIELD LODGE , No . 2450 . THE annual installation meeting was hold at the Public Hall , Uckfield , on the Sth inst ., the Lodge being opened by thc W . M . Bro . Wright P . M . 311 1303 P . P . G . W .

The chief business of the meeting was the installation of Bro . John Ansell Day as W . M . for the ensuing year , the ceremony being impressively performed by the retiring Master . On behalf of the Lodge the W . M . presented Bro . W . Wright with a Past Master ' s gold jewel , in appreciation of the admirable manner in which he had carried out the duties of his office during thc past year .

On tho closing of thc Lodge the Brethren adjourned to the Maiden ' s Head Hotel , where they sat down to banquet under the presidency of Bro . Day . Bro . Wright I . P . M . proposed the Worshipful Master . He said he was convinced , from the admirable work shown by the W . M and his Officers

that afternoon , that the duties of the chair would be admirably carried out in the coming year , and in such a manner as would conduce to the efficiency of the Lodge and the happiness of the Brethren . Ho urged the Officers to bo punctual in their attendance , and to give the W . M . their heartiest support , for he fully purposed carrying out thc duties of his high office with conscientious earnestness .

The W . M . said ho wished to thank Bro . Wright for the great kindness he had shown him since ho initiated him into the Craft . He fully appreciated the honour of being elected W . M . of the Lodge , but also realised the responsibilities of the office . Following two good Worshipful Masters , \ t would be difficult for him to keep up the high standard of the work in the

Lodge , and under those circumstances he had doubts of accepting the honour of W . M . He had , however , consulted those in the Craft in whose judgment he had confidence , and , acting upon their kind advice , he had accepted the office . He said he would do his utmost to carry out the duties , and congratulated himself upon possessing such an able bidy of Officers .

BLAGDON CHAPTER , No . 659 . ON Wednesday of last week the annual convocation was held in the Mechanics' Hall , Blyth , under the presidency of Comp . John Tweed y Z . P . G . St . B . There was a good attendance of members and visiting Companions . The Chapter was opened by Comp . John Tweedy , who afterwards installed Comp . R . Laing into the chair of Z .

The Companions subsequently adjourned to the Star and Garter Hotel , where the annual Festival was held , Comp . R . Laing in the chair .

HOLMESDALE CHAPTER , No . 874 . THE annual installation meeting was held on Tuesday , 7 th inst ., at tho Pump Room , Tunbridge Wells , under the presidency of Comp . Abrey . Tho Officers for the ensuing year were invested : Comp . Ragau Martin Z ., J . Abrey P . Z . H ., J . S . Fletcher J ., A . T . Simpson S . E ., C . J . Gallard S . N ., C . Graham P . Z . P . P . The exaltation of the following Brethren was performed in a most impressive manner by Comp . Martin , who was well supported by his Officers Bros . George Smith , W . Skinner , Henry Harris , Montague D . Brown , T . C .

Johnson , T . Potter , Cranley , M . Porry , B . Rix , and J . D . Myers . The report of the Audit Committeo was received , and during the evening Comp . Abrey P . Z . was presented with a handsome and valuable jewel from the Companions in recognition of his past services .

Tho banquet was subsequently held at the Kentish Hotel , and was numerously attended , a very excellent ropast being placed on the tables by Bro . Kelsey , the new manager . The usual Arch toasts were given and responded to , that of the M . E . Z ., proposed by Comp . Abrey , being very heartily received .

Comps . J . Wood M . E . Z ., W . Balchin , and W . B . Isworth ( Brighton ) responded on behalf of the Visitors , and eulogised the working they had seen that evening . Under thc guidance of Comp . Braid , the musical portion of the evening left nothing to be desired .

BRENTWOOD LODGE , No . 377 . ON Thursday , the 9 th inst ., the annual installation meeting was held at the White Hart Hotel , Brentwood , when Bro . F . H . Meggy was installed as Worshipful Master in succession to Bro . E . Wills , the ceremony being performed by Bro . Ramsey . The W . M . afterwards invested his

Officers . The office of Secretary , from which Bro . Frank Landon felt obliged to retire in consequence of increased demands on his time , was accepted by Bro . the Rev . W . Quennell . The Brethren afterwards sat down to a banquet , excellently served by Host J . Wild .

ROYAL CONNAUGHT LODGE , No . 409 . THE annual installation was held at the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on Saturday , 11 th inst ., under the presidency of the W . M . Bro . E . G . Whittle , who installed Bro . J . Turton as Master for the ensuing year . On behalf of the Lodge the W . M . presented Bro . E . G . Whittle with a

Past Master's gold jewel , in appreciation of the admirable manner in which he had carried out his duties during the past year . On tho closing of the Lodge the Brethren adjourned to Messrs . Booth and Sons' Restaurant , East Street , where they dined together . The Mark toasts were honoured , and musical selections were given by several of the Brethren , assisted by Miss Mennich , pianoforte , and Mr . L . Mennich , violin .

The Stranraer and Larne Passenger Service . —The large patronage which in previous seasons has been extended to the Express Daylight Service between Great Britain and the North of Ireland , via Stranraer and Larne , has induced the Midland Company , which is interested in that route , to resume Irom 1 st June a service similar to that which existed last year . The extra service will enable passengers to leave London ( St . Pancras ) at 10-30

a . m . any week-day , and reach Belfast at 10-50 p . m . thc same evening . From the Northern and Midland towns in England the service will be specially expeditious . Passengers will be able to leave such towns as Birming ham , Leicester , Nottingham , and Sheffield about mid-day , and Leeds , Bradford , Manchester , and Liverpool in the afternoon , and reach Belfast the same night . The new service from Ireland will be equally good . Tbe departure

from Belfast will be at 9 5 a . m ., and passengers will reach Carlisle in time to join the Midland Dining Car Express due at London ( St . Pancras ) at 10 * 45 p . m . ; such towns as Liverpool , Manchester , Bradford , Leeds , and Sheffield being reached about 7-0 p . m . Fast steamers of the most modern type perform the journey , port to port , in two hours , the open sea portion occupying only eighty minutes .
