UNITED LODGE , No . 697 . THIS Lodgo held its installation meeting on Wednesday , Sth inst ., at the George Hotol , Colchester , when Bro . F . J . Motum S . W . was installed , ir \ T for the ensuing year , tho ceremony being ablv performed bv Bro . H .

The VV . M . was unanimously elected to represent the Lodge on the Essex Provincial Charity Committee . A letter was road from the Provincial Grand Secretary Bro . T . J . Railing regretting his inability to attend , and mentioning Hiat he believed it was the first time he hacl missed that meeting for five aud i-mtih- vears .

Between thirty and forty - Brethren afterwards dined together at the feorge , the Host and Hostess Bro . and Mrs . Mutton doing all in thoir power for the comfort of tha guests .

LONDESBOROUGH LODGE , No . 734 . AT the monthly meeting on Tuesday , 7 th inst ., at Bridlington , Brother F . Greaser P . M . P . P . G . St . B . delivered a most interesting and instructive address , entitled , "Tho Ancient Ritnal . " The lecture was an excellent one ,

and was delivered by Bro . Greaser in that admirable and impressive manner for which he is so favourably known amongst the Graft in his Province . At tho conclusion of the lecture a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the lecturer , on tho motion of Bro . I . Willboum W . M .

ROYAL GLOUCESTERSHIRE LODGE , No . 839 . AT tho annual installation festival , hold at the Bell Hotel , Gloucester , ou Monday , Gth inst ., Bro . James Bruton was presented with a P & st Master ' s and P . Z . Jewel , and tho Brethren also added a memento of his year of office for Bro . Bruton's wife .

The presentation was made in happy terms by Bro . Nelson Foster , and gracefully accepted . Bro . R . P . Sumner was installed for the second time as Master of tho Lodge .

FORTESCUE LODGE , No . 847 . THE half-yearly dinner in connection with tho Lodge took place at the Dolphin Hotel , Honiton , on Tuesday , 7 th inst ., the chair being occupied by the VV . M . Bro . S . Mellhuish . Brethren were present from Exeter , Exmouth , Ottery St . Mary , and Sidmouth . Bro . Banfield catered in his usual first-rate manner , and a convivial evening was spent .

WELSHPOOL LODGE , No . 998 . rjIHE installation took place on Friday , 3 rd inst ., at Welshpool , Dr . J . Morgan officiating , when Bro . T . M . Price was installed as Master . A banquet took place in the evening at the Royal Oak , under his presidency , there being a large attendance . The health of the W . M . was proposed by

Uro . iiughes , WHO said he nad tlie pleasure of initiating him , and was glad to find that he bad made such progress . The toast was received with musical honours and duly acknowledged . Other toasts followed , including tbe Masonic Charities , the Installing Master , the Past Masters , and the Officers .

ZETLAND LODGE , No . 1005 . THE annual meeting was held at the Bell Hotel , Gloucester , on Wednesday , Sth inst ., when Brother Chas . Roberts was installed Worshipful Master , the ceremony being performed by Bro . S . Millard I . P . M ., assisted b y Past Masters of the Lodge . A handsome Past Master ' s jewel was presented to the outgoing Master , as a memento of his year of office .

SJAMFORD LODGE , No . 1045 . THE regular monthly meeting was held at the Town Hall , Alfcrincham , on Monday , Gth inst ., when the members wero honoured by a visit from Captain W . L . Hughes D . G . M . Malta .

AMHERST LODGE , No . 1223 . fTlHE Installation meeting and banquet took place on Saturday , 4 th inst ., X at Riverhead . The outgoing W . M . was Uro . Dr . Henry W . Dodd , of London , and tho new VV . M . was Bro . Edward Evenden , who invested his Officers in an excellent manner .

The Installing Master was Bro . Duret P . M . P . P . G . S . D , who also did his work remarkably well . During tho meeting sympathetic reference was made to tho great affliction which had overtaken the highly respected Secretary

Bro . Jewel , who has been connected with the Lodge for twenty-seven years ( ho was the first initiate ) , twenty-one of which he has been the Secretary . Bro . Jewel , who desired to resign , was , however , heartily re-appointed Secretary .

The banquet was held iu tho Parish Room , and , as on previous occasions , was a great success in every respect .

ELLIOT LODGE , No . 1567 . rjIHE members held their first meeting of the season on Saturday , 4 th inst ., I at the Railway Hotel , Feltham , under the presidency of Bro . G . R . Nicholls W . M . Bro . Ditebman was raised , Bro . Edward Parsons , of Lodge No . 1626 , was passed , and Mr . George Butterton , of Harlesden , and Mr . Henry King , of Shepherds Bush , wero initiated .

About forty of the Brethren subsequently sat down to a sumptuous banquet provided by Bro . H . P . Harris , the Host , in a style that gave complete satisfaction ,

ST . GILES LODGE , No . 1587 . rpHE celebration of thc Festival of St . John the Evangelist took place at I the Lodge Room at the Savings Bank , Cheadle , on Tuesday , 7 th inst ., Bro . T . Cooper being installed W . M . by Bro . J . B . Ashwell P . P . S . D . In the evening the annual banquet was held at the Wheatsheaf Hotel , when the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

GORDON LODGE , No . 1726 . AT the annual gathering held at Bognor , on Tuesday , 7 th inst ., Bro . A . T . Long was installed W . M . for tho ensuing year , in succession to Bro . W . 0 . Blaker . Following the installation proceedings , the usual banquet took place . Several Visiting Brethren were present from Brighton , Worthing and Chichester .

MONTGOMERIE LODGE , No . 1741 . fpHE anniversary meeting of the Lodge was held on Monday , 6 th inst , I when Bro . W . A . Smith was installed as Worshipful Master . Previous to the closing of the Lodge , the Deputy Grand Master Brother Hamon Lo Strange , at thc request of the Worshipful Master , performed a very pleasing ceremony , in presenting , on behalf of the Lodge , each of the

following Past Masters : —Bros . H . 0 . Lyus , J . Evans , J . Flatman , T . W . Gaze , S . Smith , Geo . W . Webb , D . Simpson , H . C . Green , G . S . Panks , A . Tyrrell , and J . J . Rash—with a handsome Past Master's jewel . The jewels , which were supplied by Messrs . Vaushton and Sons , Birmingham , were

engraved with thc name and number of tho Lodge , and the year of Mastership . . Past Blaster C . T . M . Montgomerie ( from whom the Lodge took its name ) and Past Master VV . G . Rice were unfortunately not able to attend to receive their jewels .

The installation banquet followed at the King s Head Hotel , the W . M . presiding . In responding to the toast of the Prov . G . M . Lord Suffield , the Deputy G . M . Hamon Le Strange , and the Prov . Grand Officers present and past

Bro . Hamon Le Strange congratulated the Lodge on tho manner in which all the work was carried out , and thanked tho Brethren for asking him to perform the pleasing duty of presenting so many worthy Past Masters with a memento of thoir year of office .

The Masonic Charities was acknowledged by Bro . F . Binckes , for many years Secretary of the Boys School , who stated that between £ 70 , 000 aud £ 80 , 000 was annually subscribed by tho Brothren in aid of the three great Masonic Charities .

In submitting the Worshipful Master Bro . W . A . Smith ,-Bro . J . J . Rash said he had noticed that ever since Bro . Smith was initiated he had Masonry at heart , and in the various offices he had filled Bro . Smith had done all his work in a thorough manner , which augured well for his success during the ensuing year .

The Worshipful Master , in response , observed that one of the ambitions of his life had been fulfilled that evening , for he frankly confessed that from the timo of his initiation into the Craft he aspired to occupy the high office

which thc Brethren of Montgomerie Lodge bad kindly conferred upou him , He heartily acknowledged the great honour that had been done him , and he would endeavour to discharge the duties with satisfaction to every member of the Lodgo .

ARNOLD LODGE , No . 1799 . THE installation meeting was held at Walfcon-on-the-Naze , on Tuesday , 7 th inst ., when Bro . A . R . Chamberlayne , who occupies a similar

position in the St . Osyth's Priory Lodge at Clacton , was installed as W . M . for tho ensuing year , the ceremony being ably performed by Bro W . E . Sutton P . M . P . P . D . G . D . C .
