At tho meeting of the Evening Star Lodge , No . 1719 , held at the Freemasons' Hall , London , on Monday last , Bro . William A . Valons P . M . 429 , President of the Incorporated GAS Institute , the W . M ., presiding , Bro . James Stevens P . M . delivered a lecture on the Ritual of Symbolic

Masonry . The large number of brethren connected with the Gas Institute , the annual meeting of which was held in London on the following day , and who wero present on the invitation of their President , expressed their great

satisfaction with the arrangements for thei edification , and joined heartil y in the cordial vote of thanks accorded to the lecturer . A full report of the proceedings will appear in onr next issue .

THE mortal remains of our late brother , who died at bis residence , Belsize Honse , Haverfordwest , on the lst inst ., after a short illness , aged 56 years , were conveyed to their last resting place , St . Martin ' s Cemetery , on the 5 th instant . Tbe deceased bad been 28 years a member of the Cambrian Lodge , No . 464 , was a P . M . and Past Provincial Grand Organist , and was held in high estimation amongst

bis brethren . As a last sad mark of respect to departed merit tbe brethren attended the fnneral in fall Masonio regalia . Bro . Harding was for 42 years connected with tbe firm of Messrs . Davies , George and Davies , Solicitors . He had been for many years Organist of St . Mary's Church , Bandmaster of the Carol ! Martin Yeomanry Cavalry , and Haverfordwest Rifle Volunteers . The coffin , covered

with tbe Union Jack , on which rested the helmet and sword belt of the deceased , was borne on the shoulders of members of the Rifle Corps , six sergeants acting as pall bearers ; the cortege was led by tbe surplioed choirs of St . Mary's and St . Martin's , followed by the Yolunteer band of rank and file and officers , to the plaintively mournful strains of the Dead March in "Saul . " When the

procession arrived at the Cemetery Gates tbe employes of tbe firm relieved the sergeants and took their stations as pall bearers to the grave . At the conclusion of the service the brethren of the Mystic tie filed past tbe grave and threw their sprigs of acacia on the coffin . The majority of the inhabitants seemed to have turned oat to show their respect for the deceased .

BRO . ARTHUR PICK

THE remains of Bro . Arthur Pick were interred iu the Grantham Cemetery , on the 6 th instant . Deceased was a Freemason , and was followed to the grave by a goodly nnmber of brethren . The service was read by the Rev . C . Elsmere , vicar of Spittlegate , aud the usual sprig of acacia was dropped into the grave .

The Provincial Grand Lodge of Kent will be held at

the Granville Hotel , Ramsgate , on Friday next , the 24 th instant , afc 12 ' 30 o ' clock . The brethren will attend divine service in St . George ' s Churcb , at 2 p . m ., and a banquet will be served at the Granville Hotel , at 4 p . m .

All ex-Pupils of the Royal Masonio Institution for Girls desirous of visiting the Institution are invited by the Committee to do so on Saturday , the 25 th instant ,

that being ex-Pupils day . The time appointed for meeting is 3 p . m . We trust there will bo a large muster , as wo think much good is possible by fostering an intetost iu the School among the old pupils .

Institution is to be congratulated , nofc only on having secured so zealous a Mason for chairman , bufc also iu having one who brings a strong Province behind him , comprising a large number of Brethren desirous of endorsing the Masonic activity of their chief .

On Friday , the 27 th ult ., the pleasant series of musical rSunions in connection with the Northampton Masonio Club , was closed most happily . Through tbe . instrumentality of Brotber Herring and Brother Warwick , metropolitan talent bad been secured , with the result that the last Masonio " smoker " of the present season passed off witb the utmost Sclat . There was a capital attendance , several

ladies . The mysteries of the Craft were for a time banished , and the wondering womenfolk had an opportunity of enjoying , together witb the men , the lighter privileges of Masonio goodfellowship . Bro . A . Cookerill genially presided , and was supported by Brother Butler Wilkius and other brethren . The ohief contributors to the programme were of course the London vocalists—Miss Ash-mead ( soprano ) and Miss Glenn ( contralto ) , both of the Royal BnKlish

Opera Company , and Mr . Percy Roberts comio singer and banjoitt . Tbe demands on their goodness was most pressing , and encores were hearty and frequent . At the conclusion the Chairman proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the London friends who had given them such a grand musical treat . Bro . Henry Martin seconded , and it was carried nnanimously . Mr . Percy Roberts appropriately responded . A vote of thanks was also accorded Bros . Herring and Warwick for organising so successful a finale to the season's concerts .
