The Lodge was opened in due form and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . Bentley having answered the necessary questions leading from the first to the

second degree , was made a F . C . by the W . M . Bros . Corby , Goodier , and Firth , being candidates for raising , were interrogated and received the test of merit . They were subsequently raised to the sublime

decree Bro . Corby by Bro . Allott , Bro . Goodier by Bro . Crosland , and Bro . Firth by Bro . Brookes . This finished a fair night ' s work . Hearty good wishes were expressed by the Visitors , and the Lodge was closed in peace and harmony .

THE members celebrated , on Friday evening , the 10 th instant , the festival of St . John . Bro . John Barraolongb , the AV . M . elect was presented for the benefit of installation by the retiring W . M . Bro . Fred Cobley , the whole of the ceremony being performed by Bro . Lay cock . The newly installed AV . M . invested the Officers for the year , as follow : —Bros . Cobley I . P . M ., Houlding S . W ., Tetley

ROYAL WHARFEDALE LODGE , No . 1108

JAV ., Laycock P . M . Treasurer , Strain Secretary , Houlden S . D ., Suttle J . D ., AValker P . M . P . G . S . D . Organist , Turner I . G ., Mason Tyler . Subsequently the Officers , Brethren , and Visitors banqueted together , when the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . Bro . Laycock P . M . as Treasurer gave a highly satisfactory report of the Lodge ' s financial position , and of its contributions to the Masonio Charities .

A MEETING took place at Bro . Tom Wood ' s , Wheotsheaf Hotel , on Saturday , the 4 th inst . Present—Bros . Fred . Hilton AV . M ., Burgess J . AV ., Vincent P . M . Treasurer , T . H . Hall P . M . Secretary , Shepherd S . D ., A . Hebden P . M . P . P . G . Dir . of Cers . Dir . of Cers ., Worsley Organist , R . Caldwell P . M . P . P . G . P ., Buckley Carr P . M ., Needle P . M ., J . J . Dean , A . B . Taylor , Leopold Hirsoh , and Tom

Wood ; Visitors—Geo . T . Lennard 1077 , and R . E . Lisenden P . M . 317 . The Lodge was opened at 3 ' 30 , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for Mr . B . T . Treahy , and being announced favourable he was initiated into Freemasonry by Bro . A . Hebden . Bros . Hirsch and Dean , being

candidates for raising , were interrogated as to their proficiency in the second degree , and having satisfactorily answered , withdrew . Subsequently Bro . Leopold Hirsoh was raised to the sublime degree by the AV . M ., and Bro . Dean by Bro . Tom Wood . The whole of the work was remarkably well done , the manner in whioh Bro . Wood

performed the cremony was most impressive . There being no farther business , the Lodge was closed in pence and harmony . The brethren afterwards bad tea , and later on assembled at the social board . Jn the absence of the genial W . M ., who had to Wve for Portrnsb to join his wife , tho chair was taken bv Bro . Vincent .

The health of Bro . Treahy was propnped , heartily drank , and responded to in appropriate language . Tbe hea'th of Bros . Hirsch and Dean were proposed and responded to . The health of the Visitors was proposed in eloquent terms by Bro . A . Hebden , and drank with enthusiasm . Bro . Li » enden in reply said it had sriven

him exceeding great pleasure to be present in tbe Lodge that afternoon , and to witness the admirable manner the work had been performed . Althongh he bad not been a frequent visitor at the Truth Lodge until lately , it was not from want of oft-repeated invitations . It was not absolutely necessary , in order to be convinced of

the repute tbe Truth Lodge bad for its excellent working , to be present at the meetings , because there were brethren well qualified to give an opinion on such matters , who could speak and had spoken very highly of the manner in which the ceremonies had been performed for years in that Lodge . He ( Bro . Lisenden ) had been

acquainted with Bros . Caldwell and Hall for a long period , nnd conld vouch for the ability , earnestness and zeal they bad displayed for the welfare and prosperity of their Lodge . Both were excellent workers , as were Bros . Buckley Carr and Hebden . The latter had proved himself a Director of Ceremonies par excellence , and it was a

veritable treat to note his watchful eye and over ready hand to help and assist any brother either in the Lodge or at the social board , whilst tho presentAV . M ., Bro . Hilton , had already earned a renown for excellent working and geniality that wonld never bo forgotten . Bro . Tom Wood , as most of the brethren know , was AV . M . of the

Victoria Lodge , at Eccles , and through the kindness of Bro . Hilton had been permitted to perform the ceremony of raising Bro . Doan that afternoon . The manner ia which he had done it was something to be remembered , not only by the candidate , bat by all who were present ; it was at once dignified and impressiveand showed

, a natural ability which would be thoroughly appreciated by all true JVlasons . In conclusion , Bro . nnHE installation meeting of this Lodge was held at the Free x . masons' Hall , Frizington , on Wednesday , the lst inst ., Bro . J . AVakefield W . M . in the ohair , supported by about sixty members and visitors . The Lodge was opened , and the minutes confirmed . One candidate was balloted for and initiated , when Bro . Geo . Dalrymple was invited to the chair , and Bro . Wakefield presented Bro . William Robinson W . M . elect for installation , and he was duly ins-tailed ; he

invested the following as his Officers : —Bros . W . Shaw S . W ., J . Armstrong J . W ., Rev . J . Tyson Chaplain , G . Dalrymple Treasurer , AV . Brown Secretary , E . Jackson S . D ., R . Dooglas J . D ., W . H . Jenkinson I . G ., Dr . Routledge Dir . of Cers ., and Jas . Toye and R . James Stewards . Bro . John Barr P . M . 119 gave the customary addresses in his usual able manner . The W . M . then invited Bro . Dalrymple to

present Bros . H . Hartley , John AVilkinson , and John AVakefield each with a Past Master ' s jewel , with a suitable inscription upon them . Bro . Dalrymple said it was not at all necessary to use many words anent this presentation from the Lodge , as it was for regular attendance during their year as Masters , for good workmanship , and willingness at all times to support the Masonio Charities , and above

all that whioh was the keystone of our whole Masonio structure—good harmony . The three brethren thanked tbe members of Arlecdon Lodge for their quite unexpected gift , and said it was one they should ever hold in high esteem . The Secretary was ordered to read copy of patent received from the Provincial Grand Secretary informing the members that Bro . Geo . J . McKay , J . P ., Past Grand Standard

Bearer , had been appointed Deputy Provincial Grand Master of the Province , and Bro . Dalrymple Provincial Grand Secretary . Brother Robinson said it gave him muoh pleasure to move that the hearty congratulations of Arlecdon Lodge be sent to Bros . McKay and Dalrymple on the high distinction conferred upon them , whioh waa

seconded by Bro . Hartley , and carried with applause . AVith " hearty good wishes " the Lodge was closed . The brethren , to the number of 54 , then sat down to an excellent banquet at the Parkside Hotel , the newly-installed Master in the ohair , and the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts followed .

LORD CHARLES BERESFORD LODGE . No . 2400

rpHERE was a full attendance of the members of this fl-inrishittg X . Lodge in their Lodge-room at the Prinoo ol AValeH Rr-stanrant , Railway Street , Chatham , on AVednesday afternoon , the 8 th inst ., nn the occasion of the annual festival and the installation of the new Worshipful Master , Bro . J . Trimble , for the ensuing year . Tho Lord Charles Beresford Lodge is one of the few " Snr vice Lodges , " being composed almost exclusively of members of the Navy , Army

nnd Royal Marine forces . Although constituted only twelve months since the new Lodge has a large number of members , and promises to take a prominent part in Freemasonry in the Province of Kent . Among the visitors present on Wednesday were distinguished members of Provincial Grand Lodge . It bad been expected tbat Earl Amherst , the Provincial Grand Master , would have been present ,

but his Lordship wrote expressing his regret thot he was not able to take part in the proceedings . The interesting and solemn ceremony of installing the new AVorshipful Master was very ably performed by Lieutenant F . Powell , one of the honoured founders of the Lodge , Bro Timble being inducted in the chair of King Solomon , and afterwards receiving the homage of the brethren . The newly-installed

Worshipfnl Master then appointed the following brethren as the Officers of the Lodge for the ensuing year , and invested each with the collar and jewel of his offico , viz .: —Bros . T . W . G . K . AVollaston and A . Rowe Stewards , C . J . Rose Tyler . A pleasing feature in the day ' s proceedings was the presentation of a specially designed Past Master's jewel to Bro . F . Powell , the Immediate Past Master , in recognition of the able manner in which he had presided over the Lodge during the past year . After the termination

of the necessary business the brethren partook of their annual banquet under the presidency of the newly-installed AVorshipful Master , when the customary Masonic and other toasts were duly honoured . During the after-dinner proceedings a selection of mnsio was performed , the vocalists including Bro . T . Oldroyd and Miss Pope , a rising young artiste possessing an excellent soprano voice .

Lodge in their Lodge-room at the Prinoo ol AValeH Rr-stanrant , Railway Street , Chatham , on AVednesday afternoon , the 8 th inst ., nn the occasion of the annual festival and the installation of the new Worshipful Master , Bro . J . Trimble , for the ensuing year . Tho Lord Charles Beresford Lodge is one of the few " Snr vice Lodges , " being composed almost exclusively of members of the Navy , Army

nnd Royal Marine forces . Although constituted only twelve months since the new Lodge has a large number of members , and promises to take a prominent part in Freemasonry in the Province of Kent . Among the visitors present on Wednesday were distinguished members of Provincial Grand Lodge . It bad been expected tbat Earl Amherst , the Provincial Grand Master , would have been present ,

but his Lordship wrote expressing his regret thot he was not able to take part in the proceedings . The interesting and solemn ceremony of installing the new AVorshipful Master was very ably performed by Lieutenant F . Powell , one of the honoured founders of the Lodge , Bro Timble being inducted in the chair of King Solomon , and afterwards receiving the homage of the brethren . The newly-installed

Worshipfnl Master then appointed the following brethren as the Officers of the Lodge for the ensuing year , and invested each with the collar and jewel of his offico , viz .: —Bros . T . W . Powell , the Immediate Past Master , in recognition of the able manner in which he had presided over the Lodge during the past year . After the termination

of the necessary business the brethren partook of their annual banquet under the presidency of the newly-installed AVorshipful Master , when the customary Masonic and other toasts were duly honoured . During the after-dinner proceedings a selection of mnsio was performed , the vocalists including Bro . T . Oldroyd and Miss Pope , a rising young artiste possessing an excellent soprano voice .
