St . Michael ' s Lodge , No . 211 . —A meeting was held on Tuesday last , at tho Albion , Aldersgate-street , E . C . Present—Bros . Usher Back W . M ., Young S . W ., Uentsch J . W ., Greenwood P . M . P . G . S . B . Treasurer , \ V . W . ' Morgan Secretary , T . H . Peirce S . D ., H . Martin J . D ., E . Thring I . G . ; P . M . ' s Bros . W . Radcliffe , A . Green , John Laver ; also Bros . Crappor , Burr , Skipp , Aires , Dixon , H .

Green , Pembroke , Frohawk , & c . Visitors—Bros . General J . Studholme Brownrigg Provincial Grand Master Surrey , C . Greenwood jun . Provincial Grand Secretary Surrey , B . E . Blasby P . After the minutes of last regular meeting had been read and confirmed , Brother Pembroke was raised to tho sublime degree by Past Master W . Radolifie , who

carried out the ceremony in a very impressive manner . A pleasing incident then took place ; the members presented their Treasurer with a very neat diamond ring . Brother Back in placing it upon the finger of Brother Charles Greenwood , remarked that ifc was a pleasant duty that devolved upon him , he being the medium through which tho members of St . Michael ' s desired to convey this pretty jewel .

He trusted Brother Greenwood might live long to wear it , and continue to give this Lodgo the advice and assistance he had for so many years vouchsafed it . Brother Greenwood seemed thoroughly to appreciate the kind remarks of the Worshipful Master . He said he conld scarcely find words to express his thanks . Hehad been , as Brother Back had stated , associated with the Lodge for many , many

years . When he looked back , he almost feared too many . In that eventful time ho had seen many a gap made in their ranks ; many had gone to that bourn whence no traveller returns . When he joined the St . Michael's Lodge , they met at the George and Blue Boar . He now , with the exception of the father of their esteemed Senior Warden , was the oldest member of the Lodge . Whenever

he looked ronnd , he was reminded of many dear friends who had been called away , afc the same time he could but be impressed with the true Masonic feeling that prevailed amongst the members . He should , when wearing their gift , be reminded of the circle of eternity which it symbolised , and could assure the members it would tend to wed him still more closely to his duties . Bro . Greenwood concluded

a well-conceived speech by again thanking the brethren for their bounty . A snm of 21 s was voted from the Lodge funds for the Royal College of Music , and shortly after Lodge was closed . A capital banquet was served under the superintendence of Bro . W . G . Jennings , the manager of the Albion . The after proceedings were of the most enjoyable character .

New Concord Lodge , No . 813 . —A meeting of this popular Lodgo was held on Thursday , at the Guildhall Tavern , Greshamstreet , B . C ., when there were present Bros . Haslip W . M ., T . J . Cns . worth P . M . S . W ., George P . M . J . W ., Bolton Treasurer , Harper P . M . Secretary , A . J . Potter S . D ., Harnett J . D ., Weeden I . G ., 0 . T . Speight Tyler , & o . After the Lodge bad been opened , and the

minntes of last meeting read and confirmed , the W . M ,, at the request of the W . M . of St . Michael ' s Lodge , conferred the degree of Fellow Craft on Bro . Francis N . Frohawk , an E . A . of 211 . Bro . Frohawk , who is Chief Officer of the screw steamer Manora , only returned from Brisbane on Friday last , and was unable to attend the meeting of his own Lodge at the time fixed for the ceremony ; hence the request of

Bro . Usher Back to the Worshipful Master of No . 813 . The ceremony was conducted by Bro . Haslip in a mosfc creditable manner , and the Officers fulfilled their duties excellently . On the completion of the ceremony Bro . Morgan , on behalf of the members of Sfc . Michael ' s , thanked tho W . M . for his courtesy , and Bro . Haslip , in acknowledgment , expressed the gratification it had afforded him

to carry out the request of the Worshipful Master of St . Michael ' s . Amongst other matters thafc were brought under consideration was the advisability of repeating the Annual Ball , which has proved so successful in previous years . It was agreed this should be done , and a Committee was appointed to make arrangements . The names of two candidates for initiation at next meeting having been handed in , Lodge was closed , and adjourned till tho third Thursday in December .

New Concord Lodge of Instruction , No . 813 . —The regular meeting of this Lodge was held at the Jolly Farmers' Tavern , Southgate Road , on Wednesday last . Present—Bros . Dixie W . M ., Haslip S . W ., Fenner P M . J . W ., Dixie S . D ., Weeden J . D ., Marks I . G ., Cusworth P . M . Preceptor , F . Perl Sec , Killick P . M ., W . Potter , R . M . Jones , and others . Lodge was opened in due form , and minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of

initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Jones acting as candidate . This brother also answered the questions leading to the second degree , and was entrusted . Lodge was opened in the second , ancl the W . M . rehearsed tho ceremony . Bro . F . C . Dixie was elected a member . Bro . Cusworth proposed a vote of thanks to the W . M . of the evening for his able rendering of the ceremonies , for the first time in this Lodge of Instruction ; carried unanimously . Bro . Haslip will preside on Wednesday next .

West Middlesex Lodge of Instruction , No . 1612 . —At the Institute , Ealing , on Tuesday , 14 th instant , Bros . G . Coop W . M ., Honning S . W ., Hartley J . W ., Fernee S . D ., Fryers I . G ., J . Wells Secretary , P . M . Andrews , and Cammell Lodge No . 15 . Lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous meeting were read ancl confirmed . The W . M ., with the assistance of the brethren ,

worked the first section of the firsfc lecture . The ceremony of initiation was then rehearsed , Bro . Wells candidate . Bro . Andrews P . M ., with the assistance of the brethren , worked the fourth section of the lecture . Bro . Heaulng was elected W . M . for the nexfc meeting . Lodge was closed wifch the usual formalities , and the meeting adjourned to Tuesday , 21 st November .

Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and the ceremony of initiation rehearsed , Bro . Weeden bein <» the candidate . Both ceremonies were ably conducted by Bro . Gribbell . j Bro . Galer was elected to preside next Saturday , after which Lodge ! was closed aud adjourned .

Gallery Lodge , No . 1928 . —The " Press" Lodge , which was established for the convenience of the literary staff of newspapers and received its name from the Reporters' Gallery of the Houses of Parliament , held an emergency meeting at the Brixton Hall , on the 11 th instant , when two members received the third degree . This

clears the way for the installation of a new Master , whioh will take place on 9 th December , Brother H . E . F . Bussey is the Worshipful Master elect . The brethren passed a very enjoyable evening , and after supper , arranged that the Gallery Lodge ball , whioh was so successful on the 13 th January last , should be repeated next January .

We have received specimen copy of the menu card at the recent installation of the Eboracum Lodge , No . 1611 , York . It is a most artistic work , and reflects credit on Bro . Whytehead and the brethren who had a part in designing it . Each toast has an appropriate sentiment

attached , which has been selected from some well-known Masonic luminary . This shows an advance upon the menu card we had occasion to refer to the other day , in which the sentiments affixed to the several toasts had been continned from the preceding year .

At a meeting of the North London Chapter of Improvement , at tlie Canonbury Tavern , St . Mary ' s-road , on Thursday , 16 th inst ., the First Principal ' s chair was occupied by Comp . Halford , Dean H ., Sheffield J ., Hunter

S . N ., Bird P . S ., Edmonds Preceptor . The ceremony of exaltation was rehearsed ; after which the Convocation was adjourned until Thursday evening next , the 23 rd inst ., at the hour of eight .

PRESENTATION TO BROTHER ACKLAND .

A VERY gratifying incident occurred a few days ago afc ^ the Manchester Hotel , Aldersgate-sfcreefc , when a valuable testimonial was presented to Bro . Charles Robert Ackland , of Israel Lodge , 205 , for some years the respected manager of the Holborn Viaduct Hotel , but who has just relinquished that position to assume the management of the " Manchester . " The esteem in ' which Bro . Ackland was held amongst the many representatives of Ihe Manchester and

Scotch trades , and others having their headquarters at both these first-class metropolitan hotels , found tangible expression on the occasion , when upwards of sixty gentlemen , including many brethren assembled , nnder the presidency of Bro . Broderick Maekay , who presided in the absence of Mr . Bullen , Chairman of the Testimonial Committee , who was detained at Gosport on an important legal

matter . Supporting the Chairman were Bro . Charles Robert Ackland , " the guest of the evening , " Rev . Dr . Morgan ( Hon . Seo . of the Testimonial Committee ) , Mr . Peter Tocher ( Hon . Treasurer ) , Bros . S . Pannell CO ., Felton CO ., Pearse Morrison CO ., McDonald CO ., and one of the directors , R . J . Jameson , of Edinburgh ( vice-chairman ) ; Messrs . At the conclusion of a sumptuous repast , which reflected the highest credit upon the cuisine of this comparatively new , bufc immensely popular commercial establishment , the customary loyal and patriotic toasts wero given from the chair . On giving the toasfc of the evening , tho Chairman referred to the high esteem and regard in which Brother Ackland was held by a very wide circle of commercial and other friends . It did nob require any eloquence

on his part to remind the company Bro . Ackland was what he appeared to be , a sound , substantial , thorough good fellow . Many of them bad had experience of the manner in which he had conducted his business , and all must have admired his ability and tact in dealing with the complaints of his multitudinous customers who came to the hotel . The discernment he had displayed on all occasions showed Im had the knack of seeing whether such complaints were merely flimsy , or whether there waa any real foundation for them . At any rate he had

on his part to remind the company Bro . Ackland was what he appeared to be , a sound , substantial , thorough good fellow . Many of them bad had experience of the manner in which he had conducted his business , and all must have admired his ability and tact in dealing with the complaints of his multitudinous customers who came to the hotel . The discernment he had displayed on all occasions showed Im had the knack of seeing whether such complaints were merely flimsy , or whether there waa any real foundation for them .
