Bros . Biilow , Fletcher , and Hill having responded for the Visitors , tbe W . M . in feeling terms gave the Masonio Charities . He had

himself been brought np in the Boys' Sohool , and had it not been for that education he oonld never have attained his present position as a solioitor on the rolls of Great Britain . Bro . Orlton Cooper having been called npon to respond , drew attention to the present position of the Charities , which offered an example to the entire universe ,

and mentioned the Jubilee Festival of the Royal Benevolent Institntion recently held , when over £ 60 , 000 was collected . Bro . J . W . Manly S . W ., and Bro . W . J . Baker responded for the Offioera of the Lodge , and the Tyler's toast brought the proceedings to a very pleasant termination .

Covent Garden Lodge of Instruction , Wo . 1614 . —The weekly meeting was held at the Criterion , Picoadilly , S . W ., on the 10 th inst ., when there were present : —Bros . Hoggins W . M ., Burgess S . W ., Hambly J . W ., Greenway Preceptor , Reynolds Treasurer and Seoretary , Foan Assistant Preceptor S . D ,, Hawken J . D ., Cogliati I . G ., Weeks Tyler , Keen , Wise , Sandland , Kent , Rymer , Bromley ,

and others . After preliminaries , Bro . Keen offered himself as a candidate to be passed , and the W . M . rehearsed the ceremony . Bro . Sandland now offered himself aa a candidate to be raised , and was examined . The Lodge was advanced and the W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of the degree of M . M . Lodge was resumed to the first degree . Bro . Bnrgess waa unanimously eleoted W . M . for the ensuing week and appointed his Officers in rotation . On rising for

the third time , Bro . Greenway proposed that a vote of sympathy and condolence be entered on the minutes to Mrs . Brindley , the widow of their late worthy Preceptor ( Bro . W . Brindley ) , who had served this Lodge of Instruction for many years , and to whom many brethren owed their Masonio knowledge . Many brethren , not only in this Lodge of Instruction bat in several others , sympathised with the widow in her sad bereavement . Seconded by Bro . Foan , and carried unanimously . The Secretary to send a letter to Mrs . Brindley .

O . was installed as W . M . for the year ensuing . Bro . Chapman being a well-known Mason , one who is highly respected , not only in tho Province , but thronghout England , there was a large attendance of brethren . The

320 Lodges iu twenty-ooe years . Iu 1871 there were 5 , 033 registered Mark Masons in England , whilst at the present time there were 29 , 229 , or an increase of 21 , 196 . It was estimated that there were 200 , 000 Mark Masons in the world . He explained that the English Grand Lodge did not recognise Mark Masonry , whioh had prevented the Mark degree from flourishing so well ns other Masonic degrees

in thiB country . But the Grand Master His Royal Highness tbe Prince of Wales , to show his thoroughly catholic spirit , practically recognised Mark Masonry by becoming the Grand Master of the Order . In other countries Mark Masonry was not only recognised but it was an intermediary degree , through which every member mnst pass before he could tako higher grades . Ho

fonnd in Derbyshire , over the grave of an old Mark Mason , this inscription in Mark characters— "Trust in God for your salv . tion , " and he had made a drawing of the same . He appealed to them to support him in bringing Mark Masonry into a forefront position , and one which would be creditable to the Order . Hs was

pleased to say that Sir Stafford Northcote was the P . G . M . of one of the two oldest active Provinces in England . Other toasts followed , and a very pleasant evening was passed . Those who gave recitations or songs were Bros . Croydon , Parker , Watson , Darbin , Endicott , Harvey , Brickwood , Lillicrapp , Gidley , Moulder , Weale and Cornish , Bro .
