Gordon and Stern , and some other formal business having been transacted , the Lodge was closed according to ancient custom . At the banquet which ensued about fifty-eight sat

down , and after doing excellent service on the good things provided by the worthy host , Bro . Page , the W . M . proposed the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts , which were received with enthusiasm , and accorded musical honours . Bro . Robinson proposed tho health of tbe W . M ., and congratulated the Lodge on having such a thoroughly good

Mason aa its Master . Bro . Boehr gave a well-executed solo ou tho zithei * , and the W . M . responded in a very short bnt pithy speech . Apologising for having to be short , on account of the lateness of the hour , Bro . Williams proceeded to propose the Visitors . Bro . Higharn gave a brilliant pianoforte solo , " La petite Reine , " and Bros . Cause ,

Canon Floyd , Morrow , and others responded , all of them speaking in flattering terms of the reception they had met with , and of the excellent working of the Lodge . Tho next toast was tho Installing Master , proposed by tho W . M . Bro . Morrow sang " Good night , beloved , " ancl Bro . Collings responded . The Past Masters came

next . After a cornet solo by Bro . Heath , Bro . Boehr responded . The Treasurer and Secretary was the nexfc toasfc , and then u song , " Give me the man of honest heart , " by Bro . Gordon . Bro . Watkins replied . The Officers were nexfc complimented . Song , tho "Lads

in red , ' Bros . Page , and then the S . W . replied . The Tyler s toast concluded a most successful ancl interesting evening . The musical arrangements of the banquet were under the direction of Bro Gordon .

The other business of the meeting comprised the balloting for three candidates and tho initiation of two of thorn , Messrs . N . Nersessian and Thomas Mudgo Lamble . At tho conclusion of the

proceedings the brethren dined together , under the presidency of Bro . Fiild , the newly installed Master , and iu due course the nsnal toast list was honoured . Bro . Miller I . P . M . proposed the health of the Worshipfnl Master , a toasfc always welcome in every Lodge .

The present ruler of the Samson Lodgo was one of the olde-t members , and had served through tho several offices . Ho felt onvinced Bro . Fiild would conduct the affairs of the Lodge in such a manner as to give entire satisfaction . In reply the Worshipful Master tendered his heartv thanks for tho toasfc and trasi'ed he miirhfc

always deserve so pleasing a welcome . He then proposed tho health of the Initiates , giving tho newly admitted brethren a hearty welcome , in the name of the Lodge . The Initiates having replied , fche Worshipful Master proposed tho health of the Immediate Past Master , Bro . Miller . In the course of his remarks Bro . Fiild

referred to the way in whioh his predecessor had conducted tho affairs of ' „ he Lodge , and hoped he would long be among them as a Past Master . He had great pleasure iu presenting to Bro . Miller the handsome jewel the members had prepared for him , and he trusted he would long have good health to wear it . The jewel bore the following inscription :

. Bro . . Miller replied . He thanked the brethren very much for the presentation which had just been made to him , and considered tbey had given him a very beautiful jewel ; but whafc he prized more than all was the secret which attached to it—the secret that it was proof

he had given thetn satistaction and had won their approval . The jewel would really havo no value iu his eyes if ho did not feel thafc ib carried , with ifc the approbation of the members of the Lodge . As it was , he should value it as a memento of the

very pleasant duties he had falfilfcd in tho Samson Lodge , lie assured them ho did nofc thafc day givo up his interest in the affairs of the Lodge simply becanse he had retired from the chair , for he shonld continue to do all that lay in his power for its benefit ,

and m doing so he hoped he should merit the approval of the members . The toast of the Past Masters was next given , there being present , in addition to thoso already named , Bros . I . Quincey , C Hochse , and E . S . Kingsbury . Without the services of tbe Past Masters the VV . M . felt the Lodgo would make but poor progress . Bro .

Loewenstark replied . Ho hardly knew how to thank them lor tlie kind reception he had ever received in tho Lodge . He was very proud of his position , and hoped tbe Lodgo would havo the help of

many more Past Masters in years to come . Bro . Barnet ., also acknowledged the toast , and then the Worshipful Master proposed tho health of tho Visitors . He hoped ho and the othor members of the Lodge had given their guests snob a welcome as would induce them

to desire to again visit the Samson . Bro . Marks W . M . 185 and others acknowledged the toast , which was followed by that of the Treasurer and Secretary . Bro . Barnett replied to this , and said both he and Bro . Loewenstark tried to do their besfc , and were always pleased when their efforts called forth a word of commendation from

THE annual meeting took place afc the Masonic-hall , George Hotel , Chard , on Wednesday , the 9 th inst ., when Bro . F . H . Warren was duly installed W . M . for the ensuing year .
