Reports Of Meetings.

P . P . A . G . P . Essex , J . W . Avis P . M . and Sec . 1184 , W . Glancock P . M . 1817 , C . A . Messenger 1817 , Morris Cohen 1817 , and A . Dix 1817 . After the Lodge had been opened the Earl of Stradbroke was saluted with the honours duo to a Senior Grand Warden , the high office he occupies in Graud Lodge this year . Major Vane-Stow then delivered the following address , the purpose of which was the reason ior obtaining the dispensation ior holding the Lodge of emergency :

Worshipful Master , Past Masters , and Brethren . —I have been asked to make a few remarks on the National Artillery Lodge , but I propose being as brief as possible . The Boyal Artillery have long had tho Ubique Lodge , a most successful one ; but their success was a sufficient reason that they could not extend their rules in order to accept Officers of Volunteer Artillery . Several of us were either members of the first Lodge , or frequent guests , and it was finally suggested that the Lodge should be formed , encouraged by the

Ubique Lodge ( who recommended the grant of the Warrant ) , for Officers of and connected with auxiliary Artillery . After the usual lengthy delays the Most Worshipful Grand Master His Boyal Highness the Prince of Wales authorised the establishment of the Lodge , and appointed as its first Master Colonel Ritchie , one of the Founders of the first Lodge , an Officer of Artillery who at the War Office had very much to do with ' Volunteer Artillery matters . He was succeeded by Major Vane-Stow , Secretary of the National Artillery

Association ; by the Bt . Hon . the Earl of Stradbroke , the present Grand Senior Warden of England and President of the Council of tbe National Artillery Association , who became eligible in time for that year ; and the present Worshipful Master Major Nicholls , now Camp Adjutant , and well known as the winner of Queen ' s prizes for position Artillery . The chief idea in forming the Lodgo was to establish a rallying point for Officers who were members of the Association , so that they might know each other better and

have opportunities for discussing Volunteer Artillery matters generally , and anything in the interest of tbe National Volunteer Artillery . With this object the fees and subscription have been fixed at unusually low rates , the initiation fee being five guineas , the joining fee one guinea , and the annual subscription only one-and-a-half guineas . The Lodge has already overcome the difficulties inseparable from the formation of a body whose members must

necessarily be recruited from all parts of the country . It owns a considerable quantity of furniture , jewels , a banner , & c , the gifts of individual Brethren , and when it is better known there is little doubt that it will emulate the success of the Boyal Artillery Lodge , the Ubique , to which it looks as its parent Lodge . To those who are here present it is hardly necessary for me to say that we very much appreciate the efforts of any who can assist in making the success of the Lodge a fact .

At the conclusion of this address the Earl of Stradbroke I . P . M . S . G . W . moved a hearty vote of thanks to the St . Andrew Lodge , No . 1817 , for so fraternally lending the use of their Lodge room for the meeting of the National Artillery Lodge , and in doing so said he congratulated St . Andrew Lodge on having such a splendid room for holding Lodge meetings . Col . Wilson Junior Warden seconded the motion , which was unanimously carried .

Bro . Glasscock , the Senior Past Master of St . Andrew Lodge present , in acknowledging the vote , said he was very pleased to have the opportunity of saying that the Lodge was glad to do what it had done . St . Andrew Lodge always had tho interest of Freemasonry at heart . It was a numerous Lodge , and it had carried out all the principles of Masonry . It had never lacked in any one particular ; it was famous for the working of the ritual ; it was strictly Masonic in all its feelings ; and it was a large contributor to the

noble Charities of the Order , in addition to the Masonic relief it extended in a private way . This was the second occasion on which the National Artillery Lodgo had held an emergency meeting in the quarters of St . Andrew Lodge ( of which ho held tho proud distinction of being the oldest Past Master ) , at the Cambridge Hotel , Shoeburyness , and he could assure tbe W . M . and

Officers of fche National Artillery Lodge that it was really a labour of love to have the opportunity of affording any accommodation for a sister Lodge . On behalf of the St . Andrew Lodgo he begged to thank the Earl of Stradbroke for proposing , Col . Wilson for seconding , and the Brethren of the National Artillery Lodgo for unanimously carrying such a vote of thanks to the Sfc . Andrew .

Captain James thou announced that he had received telegrams and letters apologising for absence from Major Gen . Wishart , Col . Forester , Majors Inglis , Turner , Henry , Langdon , ' Col . Wilson , of Eccles , Col . Tully , who sent hearty good wishes , and Col . Minden Cole ( Canadian Artillery ) , who was engaged elsewhere . The Lodge was then closed , and Bro . Dix , proprietor of the hotel , assiduously looked after the creature comforts of the Brethren .

The Lodge was opened in the second degree and the ceremony was gone through . Bro . B . W . Williams offered himself as candidate for the third degree and was entrusted ; tho Lodge was opened in the third degree , and the ceremony rehearsed .

This being the first time we had had the pleasure of witnessing the working of the W . M ., who is Master of the Mother Lodge , we take the opportunity of complimenting him on the impressive manner in which he rendered the beautiful ceremonies , and we may also congratulate the Brethren of the Boyal Alfred Lodge in having so excellent a ruler as Bro . Justin Allen .

The W . M . resumed the Lodge to the first degree , when Bro . Arthur Williams P . M . and Preceptor of several Lodges was elected to preside on Thursday , which compliment was duly acknowledged . The excellent working of that Brother being so well known we may expect an exceptional Masonic treat .

The Lodge meets every Thursday , at eight o ' clock , and Brethren seeking Masonic knowledge could not do better than visit it . Bro . B . H . Williams P . M . Prov . S . G . D . Middlesex is the Preceptor , while a feature of the meetings seems to bo to afford profit and pleasure for all who attend .

The ritual was given in a manner seldom equalled ; our worthy Brother the Preceptor can congratulate himself that although he has many rivals in tho west-end of London few , if any , can surpass him in the earnest way in which he gives the addresses . Lodge was closed in ancient form .

CHISWICK LODGE , No . 2012 . ON Saturday , 12 th inst ., at the Windsor Castle Hotel , Hammersmith , Bros . Fredk . Craggs P . M . W . M ., Bobt . Beid S . W ., W . Jeffries J . W ., A . Williams P . THE special facilities provided by the Midland Bailway for summei holiday seekers aro to bo continued during tho coming week , the programme including an excursion to the Provinces and Sea Side from St . Pancras and City Stations on Saturday , 26 th inst ., in addition to tho usual weekly trips to the Isle of Man , fche Lake District , Buxton , Matlock , Southport , Blackpool , Scarborough , and the other chief holiday resorts of Lancashire , Yorkshire , & c , & c . An excursion is also announced to run on Monday , 28 th inst ., to Birmingham , for one or four days .

On the subject of Ireland as a holiday haunt , Mr . T . P . O'Connor writes in " M . A . P . " : I have been speaking to somo of tho members of the Lords and Commons who have lately visited Connemara , and the West of Ireland , and they are loud in their praises of that delightful country . Some of them who havo travelled all over the world confidently assert that for beautiful wild mountain scenery there is nothing on the face of thc earth to compare with Connemara . If only another Scott would arise to write up the beauties of

this bracing fairyland , the tourists from England would flock there as they do to" Switzerland and the Highlands . Great efforts are being made by the Irish railways and tho magnificent Hotels in Cashol , Ballinahinch , Becess , and Achill , and what with the free fishing in Lough Corrib , a lake fifty miles long , the success of this tourist district is pretty well assured . And lasfc , though not least , the tourist , wherever ho goes , has a never-failing supply of old Galway whisky , which the peasantry of the district call the wine of their native land .
