Some interesting particulars in regard to Cheshire Freemasonry are given in an article we reproduce elsewhere from the " Manchester Herald . " We direct special attention to what is said therein as to the establishment of the local funds of Masonic benevolence .

The ideal Masonic Lodge is that one in which practical Masonry is the end and aim of all work . By practical Masonry is meant more than mere ritualism . In fact , in such a Lodge the ritual really occupies a subordinate place ; it is but a means to an end , and that end the realisation of

the Masonic ideal . The trouble with many of our Lodges lies right here . They regard the ritual as of supreme importance , and all the talent and energy of the Lodge is

concentrated on its rendition . The ritual is important ; there can be no gainsaying this , but it is not all-important , nor should it absorb all the talent in the Lodge to the exclusion of other things . —R . W . Hill , in " Canadian Craftsman . "

Inability to pay dues should never forfeit the right to membership and fellowship . Our charity should begin at home , and with our poor Brethren . Place them in good standing on your books , and allow their earnings to go to their wives and children for bread . The Lodge is the place

for such a Brother ; he needs our assistance and advice , and we need him so as to remind us of our obligations . Do not forget the unaffiliated , as , according to one of our periodicals , " He is a Mason " and , barring some little pique or petty fault ,

is worthy of membership . Let your heart go out to him in a Brotherly way ; ask him to come back to the fold . Masonry needs all worthy Masons , and all Masons need Masonry . —G . M . Canada .
