THE Superintendent of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Comp . W . W . B . Beach , M . P ., accompanied by the Officers of the Provincial Grand Chapter , attended at the Masonic Hall , Cowes , on Friday , for the purpose of consecrating a Eoyal Arch Chapter , for the formation of which under the name of the " Asher Barheld " a Warrant had been granted in response to a petition of leading Masons of the locality .

The consecrating Officer , supported by Comps . LeFeuvre and Palmer , having opened the Chapter , proceeded with the interesting ceremony of consecration , after which , having enquired if the Companions approved of the names proposed , he proceeded to induct the first three Principals of the new Chapter . The other Officers wero then elected and invested by the M . E . Z .

The following Companions are the first Officers of the Asher Barlield Chapter , the same , with the addition of Comp . C . Brown , having been the petitioners : —T . W . Faulkner P . Z . P . P . G . THE Companions held their annual Convocation in the Chapter Room , Sun Hotel , Chatham , on Wednesday , 9 th inst . The ceremony of installing the Principals of the Chapter was carried out

by Comp . T . S . Warne P . Z . S . E . of tho Province of Kent , when Comps . T . Clibbon and W . T . Wiggins were installed respectively in the first and second Principals' Chairs , the installation of Comp . C . Skinner , the elected third Principal , having of necessity been deferred owing to that Companion's

absence m London . The newly-elected Principals having appointed and invested the Officers for the ensuing year , the ordinary business of the Chapter was proceeded with , at the termination of which the members and visitors partook of their annual banquet under the presidency of Comp . Clibbon .

Sword Bearer . A ballot , which was successful , was taken for Brother Herbert Brooks , Theatrical Manager , Manchester Dramatic Lodge , No . 2387 , and of the Savoy

Theatre , London , who was exalted . Following this was the election of Officers , and the appointment of Auditors , this in turn being succeeded by the festive board , where Loyal and Arch toasts were proposed and honoured .

Companion Brook , who is connected with R . D'Oyly Carte ' s opera company , was compelled to leave by an early train to join the companv in Sheffield .

In passing , we may say that during the last fortnight this company have been performing Messrs . Gilbert and Sullivan ' s operas of Princess Ida , and "Utopia Limited , at the Theatre Royal in this city . On Monday they commence an engagement at Macclesfield .

HIGH CROSS CHAPTER , No . 829 . rpHE usual quarterly convocation of this Chapter was hold at the Bull _ I _ Hotel , Dartford , on Tuesday , 15 th inst . The Chapter was opened by Comp . Thomas S . Warne Prov . G . S . E . as Z ., assisted by Comps . J . P . White as H ., and R . J . Beale as J . The only business before the Chapter was the installation of the

Principals for the ensuing year , viz ., Thomas Hastings as Z ., Robert John Beale as H ., and Frank Hitchens as J . The ceremony was ably performed by Comp . Warne , to whom a hearty vote of thanks was accorded . The

following Companions were also invested as Officers for the ensuing year : — William Russell P . Z . Treasurer , George W . Mitchell P . Z . Scribe E ., Arthur Ronaldson Scribe N ., Fred . Mitchell P . S ., R . W . Walker 1 st A . S . , Rev . Aug . Jackson 2 nd A . S ., and Georgo Martin Janitor .

The audit report , showing a flourishing balance , was presented and adopted . The usual banquet followed , and during the evening Comp . Arthur Hubbard was presented with a P . Z . 's jewel , in recognition of his services in having filled the chair of the Chapter for three years .

DERBY CHAPTER , No . 1055 . THE regular meeting was held at Prestwich , on Thursday , 26 th ult . Comp . S . F . Simons Z ., supported by John Wardle H ., Jno . \ V Thompson P . P . G . D . C , F . W . Maxwell , T . E . Rigby P . Z .. Jno . W . Hallam

At the festive board which followed , various toasts were drunk , the usual honour being accorded to that of the candidate , proposed by Comp . Simons , and acknowledged by Comp . Sohloss .

GALLERY CHAPTER , No . 1928 . THE Convocation of this Chapter was held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , on Saturday , when Comp . E . E . Peacock P . Z ., in the absence of Comp . H . F . Bussey M . E . Z ., presided , assisted by Comps . J . Read P . Z ., as H ., and J . C . Manning as J . After the Chapter had been constituted the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The principal business was the installation ot the

three Principals , who had been regularly elected , but a letter was received from Comp . C . K . Moore M . E . Z .-elect , regretting that the present state of his health prevented him from taking up the appointment . A dispensation was therefore obtained from Grand Chapter to enable Comps . J . C . Manning and John Hurdell to accept tho two Principal Chairs if elected by the Chapter .

This arrangement was accordingly agreed to , and the Companions were duly installed in the Chairs of Z . and H . respectively . As no other Companion had tho necessary qualifications for the third Chair , it was decided that the P . Zs . should occupy it as required . Tho new Principals were proclaimed and saluted .

NORTH LONDON CHAPTER OF IMPROVEMENT . AT the Railway Hotel , Highbury , on Monday , 14 th inst ., Comps . Edmonds Z ., G . Gregory H ., Snelling J ., George S . E ., Hanes S . N ., Payne P . S ., Walkden , Gilliard , Tuck , and others . The ceremony of exaltation was rehearsed , Comp . Gilliard candidate . Comp . G . Gregory was elected Z . for the next fortnight , and the Chapter was closed .

Arch Masons may now honour Viscount Valentia as a Provincial Grand Superintendent , he having been entrusted with the charge of Oxfordshire , as recorded elsewhere .
