The toast of the Past Masters waa proposed in feeling terms by the Worshipful Master , and was duly acknowledged by Paat Master Hobbs aud others . Then followed the toasfc of the Masonic Charities , coupled with the name of Bro . McLeod Secretary of fche Eoyal Masonio Institution for Boys , who , in the course of his

reply , briefly sketched the work being carried on by the greafc charitable organisations of Freemasonry . His institution , he pointed out , stood just now in greater need of sympathy than at any period of ita existence . Tbey were providing for 264 boys , and were using every effort to turn them oufc from fche school fully capable of battling with the ever-increasing competition met with on every hand . He

was pleased to say that the Worshipful Master of their Lodge had consented fco act as Steward at the next Festival of the Boys' School , and he hoped tho members of tho Lodge would assist him in his Stewardship , and make it the best ever known in tho history of the Belgrave Lodge . The next toast was that of the Treasnrer aud Secretary , who each responded . In the course of his remarks , Bro .

Garrod said the evening marked the commencement of his ihirtyfiffch year of office as Secretary of the Lodge . Daring that period he had only had the misfortune fco be absent from oue of its meetings , a record that conclusively proved he had the interests of the Belgrave Lodge at heart . The tonst of the Visitors was heartily honoured , the responses coming from several of the guests present . The

toast of the Officers and the Organist , and then the Tyler s toasfc concluded the proceedings . A special toast , as a vote of thanks , wari given to Bro . Leipold , who , with his brother George , had dono sd much to conduce U > tbe enjoyment of the evening . lie was assisted in the musical portion of the programme by Misa Amy Sargent , Miss Lilian Close , Broa . At the banquet whioh followed , over sixty brethren sat down .

The Worshipful Master , who presided , gave tbe toasts of the Queen and the Craft , and tbe M . W . Grand Master H . R . H . the Prince of Wales . Bro . A . Trew proposed the Provincial Grand Muster , the Deputy Grand Master , and Present aud Paat Graud Officers . Bro . Raphael , in giving the Provincial Grand Master , expressed the hope that the time was nofc far distant wheu his lordship would honour

the Lodge with his presence , when he was sure they would accord him a very hearty welcome . Bro . Pick gave fche Deputy Provincial Grand Master and the Present and Past Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge , and in the course of his remarks he spoke of the high estimation in whioh Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn was held ia tho Province . He coupled with the toasfc the names of Bros . Hanson , Rev . L . D .

Kenyon Stow , and Townsend , who reaponded . Brother Hardwick , in submitting the toast of tho evening , the Worshi pful Master , observed that Brother Markwell had always been mosfc punctual and attentive to fche dutiea of his Lodge , of which he believed he would prove a mosfc excellent Master , and ho was sure the Lodge would lose none of its prestige by having placed him in tho honourable

chair of King Solomon . The Worshipful Master , in responding , acknowledged in feeling terms the assistance which he had been promised by the Past Masters , and without which ho should havo felt some diffidence in accepting the position . Ho would , ho assured the brethren , do his utmost to maintain the prestige of the Lodge . He trusted thafc the same unanimity which hud hitherto so long

existed amongst them would continue , and thafc afc fche expiration of hia term of oflice they would have no reason to regret having elected him to the honourable position he then filled . Tho other toasts wero the Installing Master , tbe Immediate Past Master , the Visitors , the Masonic Charities , tho Officers of the Lodge , and the Tyler ' s toast . The harmony of the evening was contributed to by the musical brethren .

VALE OF WHITE HORSE LODGE . No . 1770

rilHBEE was a large assembly afc this Lodge , at Faringdon , Berks , J- on Thursday , the 3 rd inst ., to take part in the installation of Bro . Dr . Conistan Spaokman to tho Worshipful Mnater'a chair . The Lodgo was held in the Lodge-room afc the Savings' Bank , and aa evidence of Bro . Spaokman ' s popularity no leas than eight of the thirteen Past Masters of the Lodge were present to do him honour .

A large contingent of brethren was also present from Swindon , Wilts , where Bro . Spaokman is well known , and amongst them was Bro . H . J . Birch P . P . G . S . W . rilHBEE was a large assembly afc this Lodge , at Faringdon , Berks , J- on Thursday , the 3 rd inst ., to take part in the installation of Bro . Dr . Conistan Spaokman to tho Worshipful Mnater'a chair . The Lodgo was held in the Lodge-room afc the Savings' Bank , and aa evidence of Bro . Spaokman ' s popularity no leas than eight of the thirteen Past Masters of the Lodge were present to do him honour .

A large contingent of brethren was also present from Swindon , Wilts , where Bro . Spaokman is well known , and amongst them was Bro . H . J . Birch P . P . G . S . W .
