Avenue . —It has now been definitely decided to call Mr . Huanmee's three act musical farce " Stolen , " and the same is now being carefully rehearsed at the Avenue Theatre , where it will be produced on or about the 31 st inst ., under the stage direction of Messrs . E . J . Lonnen and Fred W . Sydney , the principal characters being sustained by Mesdames Alice Lethbridge , Alma Stanley , May Edouin , Grace Hamond , Messrs . E . Dagnall , Sydney Howard , C . L . Cherry , Littledale Power , and E . J . Lonnen . The first act takes place in a West End drawing-room , the second in the shop of a theatrical costumier , and the third in a room above the same shop , let off or rehearsals .
Parkhurst . —Owing to the great success of the revival of " A Dark Secret , " at the Parkhurst Theatre , with the wonderful real water effects , Henley Regatta , & c , the play was continued each evening until Wednesday last , when the Theatre was closed until Thursday , 24 th December , to be re-opened with the production of the grand Christmas Pantomime , " Sinbad the Sailor , " in which special efforts are being made to surpass anything ever done at the Parkhurst . The scenery will , as usual , be specially painted
by Fred Storey . The libretto is by James Young ( who so successfully produced the pantomime of last year ) . The music is by Thomas P . Fish , the Parkhurst " chef d ' orchestre . " The dresses are entirely new for this production . The powerful company will include : —Miss Violet Rayrnaur ( Principal Boy ) Sinbad , Miss Nannie Meade ( Principal Girl ) Princess Zorilda , The Sisters Paris ( 2 nd Girl ) Haidee ( 2 nd Boy ) Hassan , Miss Ethel Briant ( 3 rd Girl ) Lalab , Miss Lillie Vernon ( 3 rd Boy ) Hafiz , Miss Marguerite Osland ( Fairy Queen ) Lurline , Miss Edith Gray Coral , Messrs . Forman and
Fannan ( Knockabouts ) Tinbad and Hinbad , Tom S . Macfarlane Old Man of the Sea , Percy Nash King of Rumtifoo , Albert Weston ( The Demon Dancer ) Captain Scuttleoff , George Barrett ( Dame ) Mrs . Sinbad . The latter is a son of the late George Barrett , the very successful comedian , and is the nephew of Bro . Wilson Barrett . It is anticipated that he will make a big success . The ballets are arranged by Will Bishop , of Alhambra fame , and executed by Messrs . Bishop and Denton ' s troupe of dancers . A feature will be the strong chorus . Some very clever specialities will be introduced by Arthur Linton , Walter Westwood , and Misses Constance Lait and Emmie Owen .
Crystal Palace . —Wulff ' s Monster Circus has arrived at the Crystal Palace , the Great Eastern Railway Company ' s steamboat" Norwich " having been chartered to bring the 131 horses and . ponies ancLthe large company of performers and artistes to Harwich , from whence they were conveyed in five special trains direct to the Palace . The Circus opens in the Centre Transept on Wednesday afternoon ( the 23 rd inst . ) and on and after Boxing Day there will be two performances daily . The Scenes in the Ring will include the
performances which created such a furore last year , in addition to many striking novelties , notably two marvellous jumping acts , one horse clearing a barrier , seven feet high . The second , part of the programme will consist-of an entirely new and gorgeous spectacle , " A Tournament of the Olden Time , " illustrating the magnificent f § tes given by Louis XV . No expense , has . been spared in producing this most brilliant " pageant , which will eclipse any previous effort ever made in any Circus in the world . In addition to Wulff ' s
Circus , a great Toy Fair has been arranged in the North Nave , which forms an interesting and novel feature of the Christmas Festivities . There is also a picturesque representation of the quaint old houses of Nuremberg , notably that of the celebrated artist , Albert Durer . Many of the large mechanical and other toys , gigantic dolls' houses , etc ., were purchased at the Nuremberg
Exhibition expressly for the Crystal Palace Toy Fair . What with Christmas trees , music and pictures in new " penny in the slot" machines ( also from the Nuremberg Exhibition ) , a Punch and Judy Show , the new Monkey House , and other attractions too numerous to mention , there will be plenty of fun at the Crystal Palace this Christmas for the boys and girls home for the holidays .
Bro . Bobert Grey , who recently received the honour of a Past Grand Wardenship , is an old Merchant Taylors' schoolboy , and , as such , was one of the founders of the Sir Thomas White Lodge , whose members are Brethren connected with the School . Outside Masonry Bro . Grey does great charitable work as Treasurer of the Foundling Hospital . Many people ,
in and out Masonry , hope to see his name in the New Year s List of Honours ; but then Bro . Grey has spent his money in charity , rather than in leading forlorn political hopes , and Jabez Windbag has a better chance of becoming Sir Jabez Windbag than Bobert Grey has of becoming Sir Bobert Grey , though his Masonic Brethren know which would make " the more perfect , gentle knight . "— " Society . "
