EDINBURGH VISITORS AT NEWCASTLE .

THE Brethren of St . David Lodge , Edinburgh , visited the Prince of Wales Lodge , Newcastle , on Monday , 7 th inst ., when about 200 sat down to supper . The fallowing day the Masonic visitors assembled at the Fire Brigade Station , Westgate Boad , when the whole of the Brigade were turned out and put under drill by Supt . Matthews .

The company first inspected the working of the street fire alarms , and tho different methods of telephonic communication , after which Supt . Matthews gave a full description of the watch room , engine house , and engines . An alarm was given by Bro . Marchbank , of Edinburgh , and the first engine turned out in response in thirty-seven seconds , the horse fire escape and the steam fire engine following in quick succession . The different

apparatus was got to work , showing rescues by means of hook and ladders , jumping sheet , and the lowering of men and boys from the roof . A line of hose was brought into action , and a jet of water was thrown at least thirty feet above the flagstaff of the tower . The brigadesmen were then drawn up in the engine house and the Worshipful Master of St . David Lodge expressed his appreciation at the manner in which the Brigade was worked .

The Mayor ( Bro . John Goolden ) , as chairman of the Fire Brigade Committee , returned thanks , and intimated that , as a member of the mystic Craft , he gave them a hearty welcome to Tyneside . During the afternoon the visitors were taken in conveyances to Gosforth Park , and later on were entertained to dinner at the Douglas Hotel . Previous to going to the Park they visited the Tyne Theatre , Mr . Sutcliffe , the manager , acting as guide . The visitors rcturnad to Edinburgh the same night .
