THE . Quarterly Court was held on Thursday of last week , when Bro . A . C . Spaull P . G . Std . B . presided , and the gratifying announcement was made that the Earl of Lathom Prov . G . M . West Lancashire would preside at next year ' s Festival , the chairman for the present year being the Earl of Dartmouth Prov . G . M . Staffordshire .

It was announced that one of the pupils of the Institution had died while away on her holidays , and it was decided to admit the candidate highest on the list of those unsuccessful at the last election in her place .

The list of candidates for the April election was settled —there are still sixteen forward from the last contest , and sixteen new cases—and the number of vacancies declared at seventeen .

THE Quarterly Court was held on Friday of last week , under the presidency of Bro . Richard Eve P . G . Treas ., the business as set out in the Agenda we published in our issue of the 6 th inst . being duly disposed of . The list of candidates for the April election was settled at 42 , of whom 27 are first applications , while the number of

vacancies to be filled was declared at thirty—a most satisfactory proportion .

ON the occasion of the installation meeting of the Etruscan Lodge , Longton , in proposing the toast of the

Girls School Festival Chairman.

Provincial Grand Master the Earl of Dartmouth , Bro . G . Bennion said Lord Dartmouth was a nobleman of whom they were all proud . In every position to which he had been called in the county he discharged his duties in the most exemplary manner . They had recently seen in relation

to the war the lead which he had given to every county movement ; they could not doubt that in return he would be supported in everything he took in hand . They as _ Masons would feel it their bounden duty to support him in every Masonic work , especially in the present year , when he was

to preside at the Girls Festival . He was sure that no nobleman could occupy his position with greater advantage to the community and credit to himself . The toast was drunk with the greatest cordiality . Later on , in proposing the toast of the Masonic Charities , it was said that however well they

might have supported the Charities in Staffordshire , there was still some Lodges which had not done their duty . The Etruscan Lodge had supported the Charities in the most noble * manner , and he hoped that the ten or twelve Stewards they

sent to the School Festival two years ago would be exceeded when Lord Dartmouth took the chair in May next . They had now in the Schools from the Province seven boys and five girls , and they had also four annuitants .

An interesting ceremony took place at a meeting of the Zetland Lodge , held at the Bell Hotel , Gloucester , on . Wednesday evening , ioth inst ., when Mr . H . Percy Jew , of Gloucester , was initiated a member of the Lodge . The occasion was a remarkable one in more than one respect ,

inasmuch as Bro . Jew had volunteered , and been accepted , for service with the Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa , and was present on short leave from Horfield Barracks , Bristol . Bro . Jew sen . P . M . D . C ., father of the newly-initiated Mason , has held Office in the Zetland Lodge for some twenty years ,

and in token of the respect in which he is held a brilliant assemblage of over seventy Brethren , from all parts of the Province , attended the Lodge and the banquet which followed . The Brethren accorded Bro . H . P . Jew a most hearty welcome , and , referring to the campaign before him , wished him " God speed , " and " A safe return . "

Under the auspices of Segontium Lodge , No . 606 , a ball took place at the Royal Sportsman Hotel , Carnarvon , on the nth inst , in aid of the Transvaal Relief Fund . A large number of tickets were subscribed for , but the prevalence of

the influenza epidemic told somewhat severely on the attendance compared with what it would otherwise have been . Splendid arrangements were made by the Committee , of which Bro . W . Lloyd Griffith was the Secretary .

The ceremony of exaltation was rehearsed by Companion T . C . Lilley J . 581 , Companion Walker acting as candidate . Comp . Lilley also gave a portion ot the mystical lecture to ao . appreciative audience . Other acting Officers were Comps . Carter as H ., Thomas Threlfall J ., H . Hellewell S . B ., Jas . Cooper S . N ., and W . E . Mowbray P . S . Comps . Carter and Turner were proposed as members , and their advent into the Chapter will swell the number to over eighty .
