French vessel , on board of which they Avere most carefully and kindly treated , and afterwards landed at Reunion . H . M . Consul Perry , on receiving neAvs of this service , lost no time in offering reimbursement for the maintenance of the English crew , but Captain Aillet refused the offer , with
thanks , Avhereupon Consul Perry officially conveyed to him , through the Governor of the Island , the thanks of Her Majesty , not only for having saved the lives of so
many of her subjects , but likeAvise for his generous disinterestedness in declining compensation . This letter of thanks has been published in le Journal Ojjiciel de Vile de la Reunion .
