Reports Of Meetings.

Bro . W . Blason Stiles , in returning thanks for the Grand Officers , made a few remarks on the eccentricity of the Eccentric Lodge in thus taking a new departure in Freemasonry . To invite the Officers of another Lodge to work one of the ceremonies he considered a very happy thought , and one which would tend to cause amicable feelings to be strengthened , and the Brethren more closely affiliated than ever .

During the evening the contents of . the Charity Box were sold by auotion , with the result that a sum of £ 15 was added to the Graad Master ' s Hospital Fund .

BOROUGH LODGE , No . 2589 . THE regular meeting of this Lodge took place on Wednesday , at the Bridge House Hotel , Southwark , when the following were present Bro . W . Roots W . BI ., James O'Dea I . P . M ., Alfred Atkin S . W ., H . Bulpitt J . W ., John Hattersley P . M . Treasurer , E . Bridges P . M . Secretary , R . J . Morley S . D ., James Cannon J . D ., W . E . Hill acting I . G ., E . W . Hattersley

D . C , J . Youldon P . M . Steward , J . W . Waterman Organist , J . Harding P . M . Tyler , H . J . Bolt , Fordham , T . Smith , G . Lawes , G . Reynolds , F . Hockerday , B . Bout , Thomas Woodbury , A . Payne , Charles Hunt , A . Brown , J . J . Hogg , John Sullivan , E . Cowles , A . Sanson , A . Thorn , A . Sullivan , and others .

Visitors : —Bros . R . Eccles J . W . 1669 , James W . Cain P . M . 179 , H . Morris W . M . 1348 , H . Lamb 1446 , J . Haxley W . M . 1828 , Holland , H . V . Lloyd S . W . 2262 , Langton , G . Fortescue J . W . 2437 , J . Stanton 2266 , J . Wynman , and several others . The Lodge was opened in due form and the minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed . The Lodge was then advanced to the second degree and Bros . Reynolds , Lawes , and Hockerday were examined and entrusted . The Lodge was further advanced , and those Brethren were raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason .

The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , when Bros . Hogg and Cowles were entrusted and , in regular order , passed to the second degree . The Lodge being again resumed to the first degree Mr . Arthur F . Sullivan and Blr . Albert William Thorn were presented as candidates to partake of the mysteries of ancient Freemasonry , for which the ballot had

fully qualified them , the voting being unanimous in their favour . Both gentlemen were admitted as Entered Apprentices in due form . Great praise is due to the Worshipful Master for the really excellent and impressive manner in which the different ceremonies were conferred . His working included the charge of the first degree , and this being also delivered in a perfect manner added to the impressiveness of the work .

A notice of motion by Bro . A . Atkins S . W ., seconded by the Treasurer , was unanimously agreed to , the object being to raise the initiation fee . It was also proposed by Bro . Atkins , seconded by Bro . Brown , that a Ladies night should be arranged for the next meeting , which will be held on Wednesday , 20 th October—this was unanimously agreed to . It was proposed by the W . M ., seconded by Bro . Hill , and unanimously carried , that the sum of £ 5 5 s should be handed over to Bro . Langton , towards the Restoration Fund of the Cathedral of St . Saviour ' s , Borough , lately restored .

The Treasurer had much pleasure in informing the W . M . and Brethren that four of the Brethren then present at the Lodge , Bros . Atkin , Youlden , Pottinger and John Hattersley , handed over the sum of £ 300 at the recent Festival of the Royal Blasonic Benevolent Institution . After hearty good wishes from members and visitors the Lodge was closed and the Brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , where an excellent dinner was awaiting them , this being served under the personal direction of Bro . T . H . Collings , the Superintendent .

The first toast the W . M . had much pleasure to propose was that of Her Majesty the Queen . As the Lodge would not meet again until after the celebration of the Queen's diamond jubilee , he felt the Brethren would desire to wish Her Majesty good health to enjoy that celebration , and long life afterwards . The I . P . M . then assumed the gavel and had much pleasure in submitting the health of the W . M . He felt the Lodge could not desire a better ruler

than the one who at present directed its affairs . No one could have performed the ceremonies gone through that day with better effect than the Master had done ; it was no easy matter to work the whole of the three ceremonies—the mere labour being sufficient to tax many of the most efficient Brethren , but the Blaster had done excellently well during the whole of the three hours he was in the chair , and had given general satisfaction .

The toast was heartily received , as also was the W . M ., when he rose to respond . He thanked the Brethren very much for receiving him in so hearty a manner . It was true the three ceremonies at one meeting made it somewhat hard work , but it was also a pleasurable task , and , if he had given them satisfaction he was more than satisfied . The health of the I . P . M . was next given from the chair . The W . M . said his predecessor in the chair had earned golden opinions from the

Brethren during his term of office , and had since been of great assistance in carrying on the work of the Lodge , for which he , as W . M ., was truly thankful . The I . P . M ., in the course of his reply , said that as first Master of the Lodgo he had the satisfaction of knowing that his fellow founders were all capable of performing any work in the Lodge they might be called upon to fulfil . It was a satisfaction to him to know their Lodge was not one of the

worst in the Bletropolis . Addressing himself to the Initiates he said the newly admitted Brethren must not imagine all the money received by the Lodge was spent in the members' enjoyment ; rather , the principal part was expended for charitable purposes . The Charity box of the Lodge was sent round on behalf of the Prince of Wales Hospital Fund , and resulted in a sum of £ 1 13 s being contributed , that sum being sent to the " Daily Telegraph " fund .

The Treasurer and Secretary . acknowledged a toast proposed in their honour , and the Officers were also toasted . The musical arrangements were in the capable hands of Bro . Waterman Organist , the following artistes adding to the enjoyment of the evening with their efforts : Miss Lillian Colley , Mr . Arthur Grover , Blr . Phil Payne , Bro . Harry Lamb , Bro . Albert Thorne , and Blr . Edgar Lunnum .
