appreciation , and promised to give all possible support in the coming year to the Blaster and Officers . Bro . Blatthews made an eloquent appeal to the Lodge on behalf of the funds of the Provincial Educational Institution , and Bro . Clarry , in well chosen words asked for aid for the Blasonic Institution for Girls . He reminded his hearers of the fact that their own Provincial Grand Master would preside at the festival in May next , in connection with the Girls School , which , should be an incentive to swell the fund .

The Lodge was closed in due form , and the Brethren repaired to the Castle Hotel to dine . At the close of the dinner Bro . M . Tennant , in replying to his health , referred to what would occur masonically in connection with the Queen ' s Jubilee , and said it had been decided to hold a celebration service in Llandafi Cathedral , at which the Bishop of the Diocese , one of the Grand Chaplains

of England , would assist . In concluding , he proposed the health of the Worshipful Master and congratulated him on the presence of such a large number of Brethren to do him honour . Having wished him a pleasant year of office , he paid a well-earned compliment to the Installing Master for the way in which he had conducted the ceremony and discharged his duty to the Lodge in the past year .

The Worshipful Master made an excellent response , and said , though he might fail in many respects , he would carry on the work of the Lodge in the true spirit of Blasonry . Bro . Charles proposed the Charities , in a fervent speech , remarking that in that appeal was disclosed the essence of Masonry . He wished to make a suggestion to the Brethren of tho Cambrian Lodge that , in addition to the

donations of the Lodge , members should make in the room an individual contribution towards the Charities , to be divided as should be determined later on . He hoped that this initiative would be followed by other Lodges in order to swell the Masonic Charities in this eventful year . The result of this spontaneous appeal was a substantial amount , which was added to by the visiting Brethren .

FAWCETT LODGE , No . 661 . ON Wednesday , 10 th inst ., the annual meeting was held at the Freemasons ' Hall , Seaham Harbour . Bro . R . Froud P . M . was in the chair , in the absence of Bro . J . J . Candlish W . M . The W . M .-elect Bro . H . S . West was presented by Bro . John Smith P . M . and the ceremony of installation was ably performed by Bro . W . J . Malcolm P . M . The annual banquet was held in the evening at the Station Hotel .

ARCHITECT LODGE , No . 1375 . THE regular meeting was held at the Masonic Hall , Chorlton-cum-Hardy , on Friday , 5 th inst ., Bro . T . A . Holland W . M . As by resolution this was to be a Ladies' night , the business of the Lodge did not occupy very much time , and the members , who had mustered in strong array , were soon ready to receive their fair guests . Especial care had been bestowed upon the dining room , and the tables as laid out would have gladdened the heart of a potential Careme or Francatelli .

Josh Billings says that " good breeding is the art of making everybody pleased with themselves , and everybody pleased with you , " and the Officers into whose hands the arrangements had been entrusted must have had some such sentiment in mind when making their preparations . During the progress of supper the Lodge was hastily improvised into a drawing room , and , having been comfortably furnished , presented a thoroughly neglige Belgravian aspect .

The 'festive portion consisted of songs and instrumental music , of which there was an affluence , some of the contributories being Bro . Henry Nail P . M . P . P . G . Tr . Treasurer and wife , who sang a duet ; Bro . Dr . Andrew Deriholm and wife , who also exhibited their vocal powers ; Bro . Wm . Rushton Org ., and Bro . Wm . Howard St . David's Lodge , No . 1147 , and Bro . Cyril H . Beever P . M . D . C , who treated the company to a musical entertainment of a superior kind . Bro . Beever , versatile as he is clever , reminds one of the driver in Sam Weller ' s story , who was always opportune .

As a variant , dancing was indulged in , this being sustained until the matin . Taken altogether , the function was both enjoyable and successful .

URMSTON LODGE , No . 1730 . THE regular meeting was held at the Victoria Hotel , Urmston , on Blonday , 8 th inst ., Bro . George Griffith Blends W . BI . The latter could not certainly complain of a paucity of work , for he was confronted with four ceremonies . In the first instance , Blr . Alfred Edwards , Compton House , Knutsford , was successfully balloted for and afterwards initiated by the W . BI ., assisted by Bros . J . Ormrod S . W . and J . S . Whitley J . W ., the former presenting and explaining the working tools , and the latter delivering the

ancient charge . Then followed the passing to the degree of F . C of Bro . George Henry Barker , by Bro . J . H . Marsh P . BI ., this in turn being succeeded by the raising to the sublime degree of Bros . C . R . Swepson and Isaac Renshaw , the former ceremony being undertaken by Bro . Walter Bowers I . P . M . and the latter by Bro . George R . Lloyd P . M . P . P . G . Treasurer Secretary . In each case the working tools were presented by the S . W ., while Bro . John Walton jun . P . BI . acted as Deacon throughout each ceremony .

A proposition by Bro . E . L . Littler P . M . P . P . G . P ., " that the sum of five guineas be given out of the Charity Funds of the Lodge in aid of the Indian Famine Fund , " was successful . Bro . John Slyman , J . P ., P . BI . P . P . G . D . gave notice of motion to the following effect , viz ., " that the sum of ten guineas be given out of the funds of the Lodge in aid of the West Victoria Fund . "

The adjournment which afterwards took place was of very short duration , so much time having been occupied by the ceremonies , but still there was sufficient opportunity afforded to listen to an admirable song rendered by Bro . F . M . Evanson 633 , as also a recitation from Bro . Swepson , and others .

ROYAL LEEK LODGE , No . 1849 . THE annual installation took place at Bangor , on Friday , 12 th inst ., when Bro . David Williams was installed W . M ., the installing Officer being Bro . Colonel Piatt D . P . G . M . North Wales , assisted by Bro . H . C Vincent I . P . M . The banquet was served at the George Hotel , the catering being excellently carried out by Bro . and Blrs . Baxter ,

Reports Of Meetings.

ST . MARY OF THE HARBOUR LODGE , No . 2591 . THE annual installation meeting was held at the Town Hall , Shoreham , on Wednesday , 10 th inst . The Lodge was opened by the W . M . Rev . J . Puttick P . P . G . Chaplain . Among others an apology was received for non-attendance from Bro . W . Dawes , who presented the Lodge with a Worshipful Blaster ' s handsome ivory gavel , suitably inscribed , and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the donor .

The chief business of the meeting was the installation of Bro . Charles Howard as W . M . for the ensuing year , the ceremony being impressively performed by the Very Rev . E . R . Currie , Dean of Battle , P . P . G . Chaplain . The retiring W . M . was presented with a Past Master ' s gold jewel , in appreciation of the able manner in which he had carried out his duties during the past year .

On the closing of the Lodge , the Brethren adjourned to the Royal George Hotel , where they sat down to a banquet under the presidency of the newly installed W . M .

Bro . Rev . J . Puttick I . P . M . submitted the toast of the Worshipful Master . He said the regret he experienced in leaving the pleasant duties of his office was counterbalanced by the confidence he felt that Bro . Howard would carry out his duties in a thoroughly able manner . The Lodge was to be congratulated upon having such a W . M ., and the latter had been especially honoured in having been installed by so able a Past Master as the Very Rev . Bro . the Dean of Battle . He heartily wished Bro . Howard a very happy and successful year .

The W . BI ., who was cordially received , said he had reached his first difficulty of the evening , in replying to the kindness shown him by the Brethren , but it was also his greatest pleasure , for he fully appreciated the great honour conferred upon him . He regretted that he had not , earlier in life become a Freemason , for he . was sure he had lost much moral pleasure and profit . He felt he could not adequately thank the Brethren for their kindness , but he assured them he would do his utmost to benefit the Lodge , and to add to the prosperity of the Craft .
