PRESENTATION TO BRO . DR . C . F . FORSHAW .
f y S Wednesday evening , the 17 th inst ., an ^ -r interesting presentation took place at Greenfield Honse , Bradford , the residence of
Presentation To Bro. Dr. C. F. Forshaw.
Brother F . C . Galloway , the reoipwnt being Brother Charles F . Forshaw , LL . D ., 2417 , 2076 , 1214 , 295 , 24 ( S . C ) , and 761 ( S . C . ) The presentation took the form of a geld watch , a gi > ld bard's jswel , and the collur and silver badge of a Senior Deacon , whioh had
been subscribed for by a nmnber of Brother Forshaw ' s friends in Bradford and district , ai a testimony of their appreciation of his services to Masonry and his private worth . More than 50 Masons , including several P . M . ' s , were amongst the subscribers .
The presentation , which was semi-private in character , was made in the presence of a few friends by Brother W . J . Kaye , M . A ., P . M . of Olioana Lodge , who expressed his admiration for Brother Forshaw—who he said he had known for a number of years—in very warm
terms . Before Brother Forshaw joined the Craft he had found in him a warm and devoted friend , ever ready to lend his aid and assistance in all good and useful works , and since joining the mystio circle , he believed that those qualities of brotherly
love and kindness whioh it was the peculiar mission of Masonry to cultivate had blossomed out into still greater perfection than before . Brother Forshaw was only a young Mason—he had only been made a year—but in the oonrse of that
twelvemonth he had made greater progress in the Craft and achieved more Masonio work than many brethren who numbered their age by years where he had lo number it by months . The same restless and resistless energy whioh characterised his
actions in extra Masonio matters had been noticeable in the Craft , and its results were observable in his present position , and in the presentation which he ( the speaker ) , was that evening called upon tu make . Striking a access in any line of life always produced
opponents as well as friends , and Brother Forshaw was no exception to this rule . Thoie , however , who were somewhat startled at the prominent" positions which he had so suddenly assumed in the local Masonio world would considerably modify their news
when they came to know and understand Brother Forshaw as well as he ( the speaker ) did . There were few occasions indeed in whioh he had responded to the call to perform a Masonic function with such pleasure as tha present . It gave him great
satisfaction to be able to hand to Brother Forshaw on behalf of himself and his fellow subscribers the collar and badge of S . D ., an honourable position held by Bro . Forshaw in the Scarborough Lodge , No . 1214 , Batley .
He had also pleasure in handing to him a gold bardic jewel as a memento of his appointment as a bard of tbe Peebles Kilwinning Lodge , No . 24 . It was a high and distinguished office , notable too for the names famons in national literature
which had previously been connected with it . He hoped that Brother Forshaw would emulate the fame and example of tbe bards who had preceded him in tho Lodge , and when he mentioned that these
included Bobbie Burns , of immortal memory , Hogg , the Ettrioh Shepherd , and Buchanan , it would be seen that he had no light task before him . In addition to these handsome jewels he had also the satisfaction of handing to Brother Forshaw a gold

English watch which had been subscribed for by a number of well wishers , Masonic mul non-Masonic , in commemoration of his appointment as Right Worshipfnl Deputy

Presented to Dn . CHARLES F . FORSHAAY by Walter J . Kaye , M . A . , On behalf of a few Masonio and other friends
as a token of sincere regard . 17 th May 1893 . He trusted that Brother Forshaw would long be spared to carry about with him this handsome token of the appreciation of his friends .
Brother Galloway also made a few remarks expressive of the respect and esteqra in which he held Brother Forshaw . Brother Forshaw , who in replying wa somewhat affected by his feelings , said he
had been connected with many presentations in his time , but this was the first occasion in whioh ho had figured as the recipient . _ A gentleman had informed him a short time ago that as he always had complete command
over himself when called upon to speak in public it would be an easy matter to acknowledge the handsome gifts whioh had been bestowed upon him . He found it otherwise , however . It was a comparatively easy
matter to speak for others , bnt a difficult matter to speak for himself , for he was so overcome by pleasurable emotions that he found it impossible to give fitting expression to them in words . Those present , and the
subscribers who were absent , wonld oonse « qnently have to take the will for the deed . The presents were a peculiar source of gratification to him , inasmuch as he could not conceal the fact that certain acts of his had
been looked upon with disfavour by some Masonio brethren , and not only that , but had been misinterpreted as well . That night ' s proceedings showed , however , that if he had lost favour on one hand , he had found it in
greater abundance on the other ; and he had the additional consolation also of knowing that whatever the course he had shaped , he conld not have pleased every one . As a yonng Mason be bad possibly hardly at times
exhibited the consideration for his elders in the Craft which might reasonably have been expected , bnt he could honestly say . that where he had offended the susceptibilities of anj of the brethren he had done so without
design and unwittingly , and he thought that his good intentions and his comparative inexperience in Masonic matters onght to be sufficient to procure him absolution from the brethren who might have taken exception to his actions . In justice to himself , however ,
he onght to say that he had taken no step without previous consultation with , and the approval of , brethren of Past Master , or Provincial rank ; therefore if he had erred , he had erred in good Masonio company . After a few remarks from other brethren the proceedings terminated .
