THE ABBEY ( WESTMINSTER ) LODGE , No . 2030 . THE installation meeting of this highly influential and successful Lodge took place on Monday , Sth instant , at the Town Hall , AVestminster , Bro . AV . Borwick , one of tho first initiates in 18 S 4 , being installed into the chair by Bro . R . E . H . Goffin P . M . Bro . W .

Burdett Coutts , M . P ., P . M . of the Lodge , proposed that a hearty vote of congratulation be sent to H . R . H . the M . W . G . M . on the betrothal of H . R . H . the Duke of York to the Princess May . This was telegraphed to Marlborough House , and duly acknowledged .

ARDWICK LODGE , No . 2185 . THE regular meeting of the above Lodge was held at the Midland Hotel , Ardwick , on Monday , Sth inst ., Bro . James Hayes W . M .

There were also present Bros . J . W . Atkinson S . W ., R . VV . Atkinson J . AV ., William Rostron Treasnrer , W . J . Melling P . M . Secretary , N . Goodman S . D ., T . C . Lilley J . D ., Henry Dawson P . M ., Wm . Fitz . gerald P . M ., Harry G . Walker , Siegmnnd Kindler , W . G . Gosling , J .

R . Fairer , James Lowe , AV . Hyde . Visitors—Bros . William Richmond 1389 East Lancashire Organist 269 Cheshire , E . Roberta P . M . Bro . Melling read the minutes of the previous meeting , which were thereupon accepted , after which Bros . Gosling and Walker , who had expressed a desire to be passed to tbe second degree , were subjected to the usual questions by the Worshipful Master , and before retiring

were entrusted with a test of merit . Bro . Hayes performed both ceremonies , being assisted by Bro . J . W . Atkinson , who presented tbe working tools . Bro . Melling then assumed the principal chair , and raised Bro . Kindler to the sublime degree of a Master Mason , relying entirely upon his own efforts to perform the whole of this very beautiful and impressive ceremony . At the festive board which

followed the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were duly honoured , the same being relieved by songs and recitations given by Bros . Gosling , Roberts , andFarrer . Bro . Melling proposed the toasts of the Visitors , and said in the course of his remarks that both of the brethren present under this denomination bad been known to him for many years , not only as Freemasons , but in connection with other societies ,

where they had worked together and passed successfully through many important offices . Side by side they had fought many a good battle , the issue being generally in their favour , and their services were always placed unreservedly at the disposal of those who were promoting and undertaking what bad for its object tbe welfare oi those around them . He concluded by giving them a hearty and

unqualified welcome to the Ardwick Lodge . Bro . Richmond , in reply , said he felt himself honoured by the very gracious remarks which his old friend Bro . Melling had nttered , and he was doubly gratified to know that the various efforts which he and his fellow visitor tad made for the amelioration of the condition of mankind had been appreciated , and this fact would be an incentive for him

to continue the work whioh he had begun years ago . It seemed as though their invitations to the Ardwick Lodge had been designed so as to bring together again two old colleagues like himself and friend . It was very kind of them to have thought of snch a matter , and evinced the fact that they were actuated by a true spirit of Masonry . Bro . Roberts said that he must apologise for not having given better

snpport to his old schoolfellow Bro . Hayes W . M . A couple of months ago ho had responded to the very kind invitation to attend the instal . lation ceremony , bnt unfortunately he ecu Id not do full justice to that invitation , being forced to leave early . He had an audience awaiting him . a short distance away , having been announced to deliver a lecture upon AVit and Humour . Upon his return , tho

hour being late , he found that the proceedings were about being brought to a close , and thus his report of the meeting was more meagre than he had intended it to be . With regard to the invitation forwarded for the succeeding Lodge night , he was unable to accept it , having promised another old friend that he would visit

the Urmston Lodge upon the same evening . He thanked them for their handsome tneatment on tho present occasion , and said that he should very probably avail himself of the general invitation which they had extended to him , and look in upon them whenever circum . stances would admit . Other toasts followed , which were duly responded to .

Robert Burns Lodge of Instruction , No . 25 . —A meeting was held on Tnesday , the 16 th inst ., at the Frascati , Oxford Street , AV . Present—Bros . J . Dixon AV . M ., AV . Truman S . W ., A . Becker J . W ., J . Blundell P . M . Treasurer , F . Bonham P . M . Secretary , F . Hewsou S . D ., AV . Shales J . D ., J . Watson I . G ., F . Marx Deputy Preceptor , F . Klein , E . J . Gittins , A . and J . Watson , and A . Pettit

1732 . The Lodge was opened in dne form with solemn prayer , and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . A . AVatson being candidate . Bros . A . and J . AVatson answered the questions leading to the second degree ; Bro . Taylor was entrusted . The Lodge was opened

in the second degree , and . the ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Taylor acting candidate . The Lodgo was resumed in the first degree ; Bro . Marx worked the first section of the lecture . Brother A . Pettit was elected a joining member . Bro . Truman was unanimously elected AV . M . for the ensuing fortnight . All business being ended , the Lodge was closed in due form .

Crusaders Lodge of Instruction , No . 1677 . —A meeting was held on Friday , the 12 th inst ., at the Northampton Arms , Goswell Road , E . G ., when there were present—Bros . A . J . Blake W . M ., F . A . Barth S . AV ., T . J . Bolton J . AV ., W . J . Hunter P . M . Treasnrer , E . Dimes Secretary , A . J . Dixie P . M . S . D ., T . F . Willison J . D ., J . Mansell I . G ., A . AVhite Steward , J . Shackell P . M . Preceptor . The Lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation waa rehearsed .

Dixie and Shackell , assisted by the brethren , worked the first and second sections of the lecture , and Bro . Holmes 1107 was elected a member of the Lodge . Bro . Shackell proposed and Brother Bolton seconded Bro . Barth as AV . M . for tha ensuing week , and tho Lodge was closed with the usual ceremony .

Chiswick Lodge of Instruction , No . 2012 . —Held on Saturday , the 13 th inst ., at the Windsor Castle Hotel , King Street , Hammersmith . Present—Bros . A . Williams P . M . Preceptor , Reid W . M ., Gumming P . M . S . W ., Hyde J . W ., M . Spiegel P . M . Secretary , Powell S . D ., Hillier J . D ., Jobaon I . G ., Larkham , and Whiteley . Tbe Lodge waa opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous

meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Larkham being candidate . The Lodge was called off and on . Bro . Hillier the Preceptor of the St . John ' s Lodge worked the first , and Bro . A . Williams worked the second section of tha lecture . Bro . Gumming waa elected W . M . for next Saturday , and the Secretary announced the election of Officera for the next meeting . The Lodge waa closed in dne form .

We are very pleased to notice the appointment of Bro . Sir Courtenay E . Boyle , K . C . B ., as Permanent Secretary to tne Board of Trade , in tne place of Sir Henry G . Calcraft , K . C . B ., resigned . The appointment will not only

give delight to his brother Masons , but will afford satisfaction both to his colleagues at Whitehall and the public generally , and we greet Sir Courtenay with hearty good wishes upon his promotion .

In connection with the opening of the Imperial Institute , the brethren will be pleased to notice the following welldeserved honours have been conferred upon two distintinguished Freemasons by Her Majesty : Sir Frederick

Abel , Secretary , to be a Baronet of the United Kingdom , and Sir Somers Vine , Assistant Secretary , to be a Companion of the most distinguished Order of S \ Michael and St . George .
