ON Wednesday afternoon , 10 th inst ., a meeting of the Provincial Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of N . and B . Yorkshire was held at the Saloon , Whitby ( on the invitation of the Britannia Chapter , No . 312 ) , the Marqness of Zetland , the Grand Superintendent of the

Province presiding , being supported by Comp . the Hon . W . T . Orde-Powlett Prov . G . H ., and many Provincial and Past Provincial Officers and Companions . The usual

busiqess of the Chapter was transacted , and afterwards the Provincial Grand Superintendent invested the following as his Officers for the ensuing year : —

Before closing the Provincial Grand Chapter the Marquess of Zetland thanked the Companions who had kindly assisted in working the business of the Province during the four years he had been absent , and congratulated the Province on itspresenfc flourishing condition . He hoped to meefc

a good number of tho brethren in this and other Provinces at the Prov . Grand Lodge meeting , to be held at Middlesbrough , on the 5 th July . He also moved a vote of thanks to the M . E . Z . and Companions of the Britannia Chapter ,

CHAPTER OP ST . JOHN , No . 325 . r PHE regular meeting of this Chapter was hold at the Masonio JL Hall , Crescent , Salford , on Thursday , the 4 th inst ., tweuty . two Companions being present . The principal business of the evening was the exaltation of Broa . William Bird Midgley J . W . 1534 and William Richardson 1077 , both ceremonies beine performed

throughout in a most admirable manner by Companion Thomas Stopford Z ., assisted by Companion C . M . Godby P . Z . At the festive board whioh followed the usual toasts were honoured , especial prominence being given to that of the newly-exalted Companions , to whioh Companions Midgley and Richardson duly responded .

THE installation meeting of this successful Lodge was held at Mark Masons' Hall , Great Queen Street , W . C , on the 2 nd inst , Bro . W . J . Crutch P . P . G . Steward W . M . was supported by Bros . J . Barnett jun . P . P . G . O . I . P . M . W . J . Nioholls P . P . G . D . J . W . W . M . elect , C . F . Matier P . G . W . G . Secretary , E . S . Crick S . D ., J . A . Farnfield J . O ., H . Warner Registrar of Marks , J . Jacobs , H . Tipper P . . M ., and C . G . W . Moore S . O . Visitors—Bros . R . C . Clowes P . G . O .,

R . D . Phillips 160 ( S . O . ) and 450 ( E . C ) , and W . W . Lee . Lodge was opened , the minutes confirmed , and the audit report received and adopted . Bro . J . Jacobs 1829 was advanced to the degree of M . M . M . by the W . M ., who then proceeded to instal Bro . W . J . Nioholls as W . M . The following Officers were appointed : —Bros . J . A . A Past Master ' s jewel was presented to Bro . -Crutch , in recognition of the ability with whioh he had discharged the duties of W . M . during the past

year . Several apolog ies for non-attendance were received , arid the Lodge was closed . A banquet was afterwards held afc Freemasons ' Tavern , and the usual loyal and complimentary toasts were heartily honoured . In proposing the Grand Officers Present and Past the W . M . referred to the presence of several Grand Officers that evening . Tho Grand Secretary ( Bro . Matier ) was distinguished for bis

arduous work , and also for his loving duties performed with reference to the Mark Benevolent Fund . He was pleased to find that one of the Past Masters ( Bro . Barnett ) was going to act as Steward for that fund , and hoped the brethren would support him . Bro . 0 . F . Matier said tho Grand Officers present formed a not inefficient representation of the toast of the Grand Officers . The time was fast

approaching when the Grand Officers now in power would retire , aud when they would be replaced by others . He had every reason to believe that among those changes there would be some very agreeable to the members of this Lodge . Tho Grand Officers of tho fntnre , whoever they might be , would be no less anxious to support the dignity nnd interest of the Order .

They were always p leased to hear mention of the services done by their predecessors , themselves , and which they hope will be done by their successors , because iu that lay tho prosperity of the Order . Bro . AV . J . Crutch next gave fche health of the Worshipfnl Master , and said that Brother Nicholls would do good suit and service to the Lodfe . Their Worshipful Master was a good worker in the Lodge ,

and ably presided afc the banquet table . He had no doubt that when the Worship ful Master retired , he would do so with the acclamation of the brethren . Brother W . J . Nicholls returned thanks , and assured the brethren thafc he was deeply sensible of fche greafc honour done him . He hoped fchey would have plenty of work , and that he would be able to go through the ceremonies as they shonld be done . He

always believed candidates were a good deal influenced in the degrees by first impressions , and if the Officers would rehearse the ceremony all would go smoothly . He trusted they would have an opportunity of rehearsing previous to their next meeting . The next toast was that of tbe Advancee , to whom they all extended a welcome . Bro . J . Jacobs expressed the pleasure it had afforded him to be advanced

thafc evening , and congratulated the Immediate Past Master on his working of tho ceremony . The Worshipful Master next proposed the Past Masters and Installing Master , and said the Lodge was to be congratulated on having so many Fast Masters who had done good work , and who were always ready to come forward to assist . Brother Hogard as a Secretary was exceptional , and

the Lodge was fortunate in being able to retain tha services of so excellent a brother , who was always ready to sacrifice his time and inclinations for the good of the Lodge . Bro . Barnett was a most enthusiastic and indefatigable Mason , and had brought moro recruits into tho degree than many could boast of . Thoy had all seen how excellently Bro . Crutch had rendered the ceremonies of advancement and installation , nnd the way ho delivered the charges

was most impressive . Bro . W . J . Crutch said as far ns he was concerned he should always endeavour to do hia duty in the Lodge as he had during the time he had been a member . He thanked tho brethren , not only for fche kind way they had received the toast , bat also for the kindness extended to him during his year of office . Bro . R . Clowes responded for fche visitors , and acknowledged the kindness with which they had been received . Bro . J . A . Farnfield , replying for the Officers , aaid they were one and all anxious for tha
