MEMORIAL FOR FELIXSTOWE CHURCH .
FOLLOWING on the completion of the east end of the church of St . John Baptist , Felixstowe , a gift is to be made of a handsome three-light stained glass window for the morning chapel , which is to be dedicated to So . Felix , by the Brethren of the Felix Lodge , No . 2371 . When , a few weeks ago , the
foundation-stone of the chancel was laid with full Masonic honours by Bro . the Eev . G . J . Martyn Deputy Prov . G . M . for Suffolk , the Brethren decided to place in the church a permanent memorial of the event , with the result above stated . The window , which , when completed , will form an artistic addition to the
interior of the sacred edifice , is representative of St . Felix , from Burgundy , who introduced Christianity into Bast Anglia ; St . Fursey , an Irish monk , who founded a monastery at Burgh Castle , near Yarmouth , in 637 ; and St . Edmund , who became King of Bast Anglia , in 855 , and whose body was interred in the Abbey

A number of ladies-were ' seated in the enclosure , and the impressive ceremony was reverently followed by hundreds of the geueral public .
After the opening prayer the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , referred to the importance of building a temple , showing , as it did , that Freemasonry was making great progress in a particular locality . Formerly their Lodges met in hotels or taverns , which were largely , no doubt , the only suitable places . All this was now changed . Unquestionably public opinion was against the
meeting of public bodies iu licensed premises , and Brethren were , he thought , well advised when they provided habitations of their own . He did not want to say one word against hotels or taverns as such , but he was bound to say that they were not the best places for Freemasons to meet . It was hardly possible to obtain that privacy which was necessary , and it gave the outside world
room to talk , and possibly kept persons from joining who might have become useful members of the Lodge . He would remind the Brethren that the building would not be Lodge Concord , but the Brethren , and upon them rested the responsibility of Freemasonry . It was by their conduct and lives that the outside world would judge of their body , and form an opinion , favourable or otherwise .
Bro . A . H . Fisher W . M . then presented the Deputy P . G .
