Several other toasts followed , and suitable responses were made . Tho procedings throughout were of a most agreeable character .

THE annual election meeting of this Lodge was held on the 10 th instant , at Anderton's Hotel , when the Worshipfnl Master ( Bro . W . C . Hall ) was snrronnded by a very large gathering of tho brethren , whilst the Visitors' list was of gratifying length . Lodge having been opened in due form , the minntes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed , after which a rather heavy agenda , including three raisings , and one passing , was got through . of the ceremonies was admirable throughout , and reflected the highest credit upon tho Worshipful Master and his staff of Officers . Subsequently the election of Worshipfnl Master for the ensuing year was proceeded with , and the choice of the brethren fell unanimously npon Bro . Augustus Leech , who had discharged the duties of the Senior Warden ' s chair to the ntmost satisfaction of the Lodge . Bro . Leech

was warmly congratulated on his election , and suitably acknowledged the hononr that had been conferred npon him . Bro . J . Painter P . M . was unanimously re-elected Treasurer , with thanks for his past services , and Bro . Joseph J . Marsh was re-appointed Tyler . Some other business was transacted , after which the brethren and Visitors partook of a banquet served in Bro . Clemow ' s best style , and the ordinary Loyal and Masonic toasts were discussed . Special reference

was made to the ability and zeal displayed by Bro . Hall during his year of office , and the satisfactory manner in which he had at all times acqnitted himself both in Lodge and at tho banquet table . Bro . Leech was felicitated upon his eleotion by so unanimous a vote of the brethren , who wished for him a happy and prosperous year on his accession to office . Several complimentary toasts followed , and amidst an abundance of excellent vocal and instrumental music a thoroughly agreeable and harmonious evening was enjoyed .

EBORACUM LODGE , No . 1611 .

THE annual meeting of this Lodge , for the election of Master , was held on Monday evening . The Lodge room was crowded , amongst those present being Bros . M . Millington W . M ., G . Simpson I . P . M ., P . M . ' s T . B . Whytehead , J . S . Cumberland , C . G . Padel , J . T . Seller , G . Balmford Treasurer , W . P . Moat ( Auckland , New Zealand ) , Rev . W . C . Lukis 837 , J . Benkin S . W ., A . T . B . Turner J . W ., and many other members and visiting brethren from the York and Agricola

Lodges . The first business after a successful ballot for a candidate was the raising of Bro . Wigglesworth to the degree of a Master Mason , which was performed by the Worshipfnl Master , the traditional history being given by Bro . T . B . Whytehead . The report of the Auditors was brought up and adopted , the Worshipfnl Master congratulating the Lodge upon its excellent

financial position . The report of the Hall Proprietary Fund was also brought up , and was considered satisfactory . The election of Master then took place , and tbe unanimous vote of the Lodge fell upon Bro . J . Blenkin S . W . Bro . G . Balmford P . M . was unanimously re-elected Treasurer , and Brother P . Pearson Tyler . On the motion of Brother Whytehead , seconded by the W . M ., Brother the Rev . A . F . A . Woodford , Past Grand Chaplain , and editor of the

Freemason , was elected an honorary member of the Lodge . A congratulatory telegram was ordered to be sent to tbe Minerva Lodge , No . 250 , Hull , which was that night celebrating its centenary of existence . After the close of the Lodge the brethren sat down to an excellent supper , the health of the newly-elected W . M ; was drunk with enthusiasm , as also that of the outgoing Master , who had during his year of office acted most generously and done credit both to the Lodge and himself .

"United Mariners' Lodge , No . 30 . —On Tuesday night the members of this old and popular Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons assembled for the first time after the summer recess , at the Guildhall Tavern , under the presidency of Brother Joshua Shipley W . M ., who

was well supported by his Officers and brethren . The only business before the Lodge was to ballot for Mr . Alfred Lane , who had been proposed by Bro . Howard , and seconded by Brother Hiram Cosedgo P . M . ^ Tbe voting was unanimously in favour , and the candidate will be initiated at the next meeting .

Strong Man Lodge , No . 45 . —The regular meeting of the season was held on the 4 th inst ., at the Mason ' s-avenue Tavern , Basinghall-street , under the presidency of Bro . W . A . Humphries I . P . M ., the W . M ., Bro . H . G . Ball , being absent in Canada . Bros . J . Smith S . W ., H . T . Nell J . W ., H . Follett P . M . Treas .. Heall Sec . Fonntaia S . D ., Hunt I . G ., H . P . Thomas A . S . ; P . M . ' s Driver and

Symonds . Visitors—Bros . H . J . Dean 1260 , and H . M . Levy P . M . 188 . After preliminaries , Bro . John Phillips was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason . Hymns were snng throughout , and the Kyrie Eleison used is taken from Mendelssohn ' s oratorio Elijah . A letter was read from the W . M ., stating that he had visitpd the Reboboam Lodge in Canada , where , after a carefnl examination , he

was admitted , and bad the honour of being present with the Prov . Grand Master and the Deputy Prov . Grand Master ; there werp 250 brethren present . Ho was enthusiastically received , and in the name of his Lodge thanked the R > hoboam Lodge for the cordial reception he had met with . The report of the committee respecting the revision of the bye-laws was received . It was proposed

seconded , and carried that a gold centenary jewel be presented to the I . P . M ., Bro . W . A . Humphries , for his exertions and kindness on behalf of the Lodge . Notioo of motion was given by Bro . G . G . Symonds P . M ., seconded by Bro . Smith S . W ., "That no banquet take place unless the requisite funds are in the hands of the Treasurer . " Several matters were then discussed , and the Lodge was closed .

Eoyal Gloucester Lodge , No . 180 . —On Thursday evening , 11 th inst ., the R . W . Provincial Grand Master of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight ( W . W . B . Beach , M . P . ) , and tho Deputy Provincial Grand Master ( Bro . W . Hickman ) , with the Grand Lodge Officers , paid a visit to tho Royal Gloucester Lodge , No . 130 , on the invitation of the W . M . Bro . J . Robertson . There was a large attendance

of Grand Lodge Officers , Past Officers , and other Brethren , including the W . M . 's and Wardens of the Lodges Economy and William of Wykebam ( Winchester ) , all of whom received a very cordial greeting . At tho banqnot which was subsequently held the P . G . M ., in responding to the toast of his health , referred to several propositions which have been submitted to the Lodges in regard to matters affecting the Province , and pointed ont that certain of them were diametrically

opposed to each other , while the most important , emanating from Portsmouth , and snggesting the division of tbe Province , could not be carried ont , even were it desirable , under the Book of Constitutions . Bros . Frost and Rastrick ( Portsmonth ) , both Grand Lodge Officers , repudiated the idea that the movement for the division of the Province had any general support among the brethren forming the Lodges in that important town .

Faith Lodge of Instruction , No . 141 . —The weekly meeting was held on Tuesday , the 16 th instant , when the brethren at . tended in unusual strength , at their new quarters , the Queen Anne ' s Restaurant , Queen Anne ' s Gate , St . James ' s Park Station . Lodge was opened by the W . M . Bro . H . Cox W . M . 144 , assisted by Bros . T . D Dutton W . M . Elliott Lodge S . W ., Swaine J . W ., Macefield S . D ., Christmas J . D ., R . J . Taylor P . M . 144 I . G ., Cottebrune P . G . P .

Preceptor . There were also present Bros . Bassington P . M . Treasurer , Cross P . M . 1194 Secretary , Baker P . M ., Gardner W . M . Granite , Flattely P . M . 1624 , C . Tayler W . M . eleot 1624 , Cobham P . M ., Vincent P . M ., Skinner W . M . 338 , and many other brethren . The minutes of the previons meeting were read and confirmed , and the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed by the W . M ., Bro . C . Tayler candidate . Bro . Powell then took the chair of W . M . and rehearsed

the ceremony of installation . Bro . T . Dutton was placed in the chair of K . S . After the return of those below the rank of Installed Master , the brethren saluted . Lodge was resumed to the first degree . Bro . C . Tayler then invested the Officers . Bro . Powell W . M . 1624 and Bro . Bottle S . D . 1624 were unanimously elected members of the Lodge . A

vote of thanks was recorded on the minntes to Bro . Powell for the able manner in which he had performed the ceremony of installation . All Masonic business being ended , Lodge was closed in perfect harmony , after one of the most successful meetings the Lodge has ever had .

Percy Lodge of Instruction , No . 198 . —At the meeting held on Satnrday last , at the Jolly Farmers ' , Southgate Road , N . Present—Bros . Jenkin W . M ., Powell S . W ., Gilderslen J . W ., Galer Secretary , Robinson S . D ., Parkes J . D ., Weeden I . G . ; R . Pearcy ( Preceptor ) , Fenner , Gush , Pilley , Ockelford , Langdale , Morgan , he . Business : —Lodge was opened , and the minutes of last meeting were

read and confirmed . Brother Fenner offered himself as a candidate for the second degree , and the ceremony of passing was rehearsed . Brother Fenner worked the second , and Brother Gush the third sections of the second lecture , assisted by the brethren . Brother Fenner then worked the fourth , Brother Powell answering the questions of this section in a most eloquent style . In the fifth section ,

which followed , the questions were answered by the brethren . Lodge was closed in the second degree , and then Brother Robinson answered the questions of the second section of the first lecture . Bro . Powell was appointed Worshipfnl Master for Saturday , the 20 th inst ., and after a vote of thanks had been passed to Brother Jenkin , Lodge was closed .

United Strength Lodge , No . 228 . —The members of this old and substantial Lodge assembled for the first time after the recess on Tuesday evening , at the Gnildhall Tavern , Gresham-street , when there was a numerous attendance of brethren and visitors . Lodge was opened in accordance with ancient rites , under the

presidency of Bro . H . W . Alford W . M ., who was well supported by his Officers , a large number of the brethren , with a sprinkling of visitors . After the transaction of the usual formal business , it was announced that the only work named on the agenda paper was the raising of Bro . Lobb ( a member of the London School Board ) to the third degree ; but a letter had been received from that brother to the effect that ,

having suffered a Fevero domestic bereavement , he found \ t impossible to attend . Mrs . Lobb died on Thursday last week , and was interred on Monday in Abney Park Cemetery , in the presence of a large number of friends , who attended to pay the last tribute of respect to the deceaspd . The brethren joined in united expressions of sympathy with Bro . Lobb in his sad bereavement , and it was

resolved tbat a letter of condolence should be sent . There being no bnsiness to claim the attention of the brethren they adjoarned at an early hour to the banqnetting mom , where an admirable repa 9 b awaited them , when the customary Loynl and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . In conseqnence , however , of the circumstance allnded to , 'ho after proceedings were of a somewhat subdued and quiet description .

Bro . Powell was appointed Worshipfnl Master for Saturday , the 20 th inst ., and after a vote of thanks had been passed to Brother Jenkin , Lodge was closed .

United Strength Lodge , No . 228 . —The members of this old and substantial Lodge assembled for the first time after the recess on Tuesday evening , at the Gnildhall Tavern , Gresham-street , when there was a numerous attendance of brethren and visitors . Lodge was opened in accordance with ancient rites , under the

presidency of Bro . H . W . Alford W . M ., who was well supported by his Officers , a large number of the brethren , with a sprinkling of visitors . After the transaction of the usual formal business , it was announced that the only work named on the agenda paper was the raising of Bro . Lobb ( a member of the London School Board ) to the third degree ; but a letter had been received from that brother to the effect that ,

having suffered a Fevero domestic bereavement , he found \ t impossible to attend . Mrs . Lobb died on Thursday last week , and was interred on Monday in Abney Park Cemetery , in the presence of a large number of friends , who attended to pay the last tribute of respect to the deceaspd . The brethren joined in united expressions of sympathy with Bro . Lobb in his sad bereavement , and it was

resolved tbat a letter of condolence should be sent . There being no bnsiness to claim the attention of the brethren they adjoarned at an early hour to the banqnetting mom , where an admirable repa 9 b awaited them , when the customary Loynl and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . In conseqnence , however , of the circumstance allnded to , 'ho after proceedings were of a somewhat subdued and quiet description .
