COLNE LODGE , No . 2477 . THE first annual meeting of this Lodge was held in the Old Board School , Wyvenhoe ( by dispensation from tho Prov . Grand Master Earl of Warwick ) , on Tuesday , 9 th inst ., under the presidency of the outgoing W . M . Bro . Claude E . Egeiton-Green Prov . Grand Treasurer , there being upwards of seventy Brethren present .

The W . M . having raised to the third Degreo Bros . Captain W . Trayler and W . Munson , then Installed the W . M .-elect Brother Gustavus Pratt S . W ., the ceremony being performed in a most able and pleasing manner . Tho Officers for the year were appointed and invested .

On the proposition of Bro . Egerton-Green , the newly-installed Master was elected to represent the Lodge on the Essex Provincial Charity Committee . In presenting the Auditors' report , the Secretary stated that no less than £ 324 had been received for the purpose of starting and carrying on the Lodge during its first year .

The Brethren afterwards dined at the Greyhound Hotel , the menu being well served by Messrs . Potton and Brown . The toast list having partly been disposed of , the newlyinstalled Master referred to the admirable work done during his year by the I . P . M ., and presented him , on behalf of the members , with a valuable gold jewel , of a rich aud chaste design .

Brother Egerton-Green , in responding , referred to the number ( twenty-one ) of initiations during the brief period of the first session of the Lodge ( six months ) , and said he should always look back with pleasuro upon his term of office .

During the evening a telegram was received from the Prov . Grand Secretary ( Bro . T . J . Railing P . A . G . D . C . Eng . ) , offering " heartiest good wishes from Consecrating Officer . "

O O 0 LODGE OF INSTRUCTION , No . 581 . A MEETING was held at the Old Boar ' s Head Hotel , Manchester , on Thursday , the 11 th inst ., Bro . Jas . W . Abbott P . M . P . P . G . D . C . Preceptor . There was a very good attendance ,

the following amongst others being present : —Bros . G . T . Lcnard Sec , Geo . Parker P . M ., A . Ashworth W . M . £ ' 99 , Thos . Hamnett , Herbert Hellewell , G . R . Berry , H . G . Jackson , Jonathan Whittaker and N . Jones .

Bro . W . Dyson Fryer P . M . opened the Lodgo , and the minutes of the last meeting having been read , a ballot was taken for Bros . Henry Wood , Longsight Lodge , and George W . Davies , Ashbury Lodge , which was successful in both instances .

The ceremony rehearsed was that of a Raising , the same being performed by Bro . H . J . Harrison S . W . Faith Lodge . The Traditional History Lecture was delivered by Bro . Alfred Hebden P . M . P . P . G . D . D . C ., who also presented and explained the working tools .

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday , the 30 th inst , when it is probable that an Initiation and Passing may be taken . o o o

SINCERITY LODGE , No . 174 . TH E opening meeting of the season of this ancient Lodge took place at the Guildhall Tavern , Gres-ham Street , E . G ., on Wednesday , when a goodly muster of Brethren assembled . The W . M . Bro . W . Green Norman presided , and was supported by the following : Bros . W . M . Butcher Prov . G . S . W . Essex S . W ., W .

Harvey J . W ., Chas . Lacey P . M . Treas ., C . H . Webb P . M . Secretary , Jas . Mustart S . D ., J . Bexley J . D ., H . E . Lambrooke I . G ., and Past Masters John Newton , W . J . Higgs , E . J . Moore , Hy . Magee , H . H . Seddons , Hy . Jay , and John Miller , together with a large number of members .

The Visitors were Bros . J . H . Maloney of the West Ham Abbey Lodge , No . 2291 , and Orlton Cooper P . M . St . Michael ' s No . 211 . After the Lodge had been opened and the minutes confirmed , the W . M ., in the absence of any regular work , employed his Officers in the Masonic ritual for the instruction of the Brethren .

Before the Lodge was closed Bro . John Newton P . M . proposed and Bro . H . Magee P . M . seconded that a cordial vote of congratulation should be tendered to Bro . W . M . Butcher upon his having attained Provincial Grand honours . Bro . Butcher suitably acknowledged the compliment , and

subsequently announced his intention of going up as a Steward for the next festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . Thereupon Bro . Lacey P . M . Treasurer moved that the sum of ten guineas from the Lodge funds be granted to Bro . Butcher to head his list . This was agreed to , and all business being finished the Brethren adjourned to dinner and spent a very enjoyable evening . o o o

DORIC LODGE , No . 933 . ON Tuesday of last week this Lodge resumed its meetings at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , under the presidency of Bro . W . A . Moss W . M . A ballot was taken , resulting in the unanimous election of Bro . Andrew Jno . Chalmers , late of the West Ham Abbey Lodge , as a joining member . Bro . Chalmers then entered the Lodge and was

cordially ureeood . Correspondence having been disposed of , the 1-m . Ue adjourned to refreshment in the shape of an excellently served repast , to which due justice was done . The veteran member , Bro . Barnes , the " father" of the Lodge , took the opportunity , says the " East Loudon Observer , " of making some interesting remarks in the coarse of the proceedings . 0 o o

DUKE OF EDINBURGH LODGE , No . 1259 . rpHE opening meeting was held on the 3 rd inst ., at tho Eastern J _ Hotel , West ludia Dock Road , Bro . Parrett P .. M . and Sec . being in the chair , in the place of Bro . Robert Fielder , who was unavoidably absent . Mr . David Gosver was initiated , Bro . Green passed , and Bro . C .

J . Fielder raised . It need scarcely be said that in the hands of P . M . Parrott the ceremonies of the various degrees wero worked to perfection . The present successful state of tho Lodge is largely owing to his earnest endeavours , both during his two consecutive years as W . M . and his help iu the Lodge of Instruction .

Bro . J . Lusty jun . the S . W . was unanimously elected to occupy the chair of W . M . during the ensuing year , Bro . C . Wakefield P . M . Treasurer was again re-elected to fill that honourable office , aud Bro . J . Very' was re-electod Tyler . The Auditors appointed were Bros . Wilson , Sweeting , aud Chandler .

All Masonic business being ended , and tho Lodgo closed , tho Brethren adjourned and did ample justice to the generous fare provided by the ever-attentive host , Bro . Keen .

JOHN'S LODGE , No . 1306 . r"HHE regular meeting of this Lodge was held at the Guildhall I Tavern , Greshain Street , the Lodge having been removed from the Three Nuns Hotel during the recess . The W . M . Brother Charles Dawo occupied the chair , and was supported by Officers and Brethren .

The W . M . dealt with tho communications that had been received by tho Secretary , amongst which was a letter from the Grand Secretary , approving of the removal of the Lodge , a petition from the widow of a lato Brother of the Lodge , asking the support

of tho Brethren to enable her to get one of her sons elected to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys ( which was unanimously agreed to ) , and other letters . Four gentlemen were proposed for Initiation at the next meeting .

The Lodge being closed , the Brethren adjourned to the banquet , which was highly appreciated , after which the W . M . gave the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts .

Minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed , the W . M .-elect Bro . John K . Gwyn was presented to the W . M . and received at his hands the benefit of Installation , the ceremony being most ably performed by Bro . Robson and completing in an admirable manner a year ' s most creditable work on the part of tbe outgoing Master .

The newly Installed Master gave evidence of his perfect qualification for his elevation to the chair of K . S . by at once Initiating into the mysteries of the Order Mr . Frederick Geo , Joy , of 65 Ludgate Hill .

The Officers appointed for the ensuing year were Bros . E , Brookman S . W ., F . E . Bailey J . W ., Ee ' v . R . J . Simpson Chaplain , R . Fendick P . M . Treas ., James Stevens P . M . Sec , G . J . M . Fraser S . D ., R . Lawson J . D ., H . Dottridge I . G ., J . H . Guyton P . M . D . C ., R . Thomas and J . Beyton Stewards , and R . Potter P . M . Tyler .

The report of the Audit Committee was received and a proposition for an initiation at the ensuing meeting accepted , and after some general routine business had been disposed of the Lodge work terminated with solemn prayer , and the Brethren adjourned to the Pillar Hall for banquet .

This was admirably served by Messrs . Ritter and Pusey and gave general satisfaction . An interesting menu and list of toasts , interspersed with apt quotations from Masonic ritual , was much appreciated by the Visitors . The post-prandial speeches introducing the customary toasts , and in response thereto , were somewhat above the average on similiar occasions , and the musical portion of the programme ,

under the direction ot Bro . J . Ortner , assisted by Miss Amelia Holding , Medallist R . A . M ., Miss Ira Aldridge , and Mr . Edwin Wareham , with Miss Gwyn , a talented daughter of the W . M ., as accompanist , met with earnest approval and added materially to the enjoyment of the Brethren , who , after a most harmonious evening , separated highly pleased with the success which had attended the proceedings both at labour and refreshment .
