ROYAL ARCH .

CHESHIRE . THE Annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Chapter took place on Wednesday of last week , in the Assembly Room at the Town Hall , Macclesfield , his Worship the Mayor ( Alderman Geo . Fountain ) having kindly granted the use of his parlour for the reception of the Provincial Grand Officers .

The Chapter was presided over by the Rev . C . W . Spencer-Stanhope , M . A ., Grand Superintendent , and

there was a numerous attendance of Companions from all parts of Cheshire . After the business of the Province had been transacted , the Grand Superintendent invested the Officers

for the year , which included the following : Comp . T . Lockitt H . Broadsmith - - - J . R . Newhouse - - - S . E . Capt . Cooper - - - S . N . Rev . C . Atkinson - - Principal Sojourner Geo . Sykes - - - 1 st Assistant Thos . Brough - - - 2 nd Assistant J . F . May - - - Registrar

Geo . Ibeson - - - Treasurer W . Napier ... Sword Bearer E . Earton - - ) oi a a -a T . G . Sheldon - - - f Standard Bearers J . Annett - - - Director of Ceremonies

Dr . Fennell - - - , Thos . B . Barton - - - [ Assistant Dir . of Cers . Thos . H . Davies- - - ' Martin Middleton - Organist . At the conclusion of the business the Companions dined together at the Macclesfied Arms Hotel , when an excellent repast was provided by Companion J .

Crowfcher . The usual Arch and Loyal toasts were given and received .

ROYAL KENT CHAPTER OF ANTIQUITY , No . 20 . THE Annual Installation took place in the Chapter Room at the Sun Hotel , Chatham , on Wednesday , 10 th inst . The Installation ceremony was performed by Comp . T . S . Warne P . G . S . E . of Kent , when Companions F . W . Collins , T . Clibbon , and W . T . Wiggins were Installed in the three Principals ' chairs with the accustomed formalities .

After the Chapter business has been disposed of , the Companions held their annual banquet , presided over by the newly-installed Principals .

o o o SOUTH SAXON CHAPTER , No . 311 . THE Annual Installation of Principals was held at the Free masons Hall , Lewes , on Wednesday , 26 th ult .

A past M . E . Z . 's jewel was presented to Comp . W . Wright , who had performed the duties appertaining to the office with his customary zeal and ability , and to the complete satisfaction of the members of the Chapter .

The Companions dined together at the Bear Hotel , in the evening , the banquet being excellently served by Mrs . Whitcomb . Amongst the company present was Lieutenant-General C . W .

Randolph Grand Superintendent of Sussex . The toast list was interspersed with vocal selections by Miss Edith Welling and Comp . S . L . Wright , the pinaoforto accompaniments being played by Mr . Horace Jackson . O O 0

CHAPTER OF RECTITUDE , No . 581 . AT a regular meeting held on Thursday , 4 th inst ., at the Clarence Hotel , Manchester , the following Officers were elected , Principal J . T . Richardson P . Z . P . P . G . A . S ., 2 nd Jas . Hayes , 3 rd G . H . Barnes , Treas . W . Rostron , Scribe E . Robert Rudman , N . A . B . Brown , Sojourners Comps . Lilley , Wilson and Adshead , Auditors Comps . Stokes and H . G . Walker .

At the festive board which followed , the usual toasts were submitted and accepted , the same being varied by songs , & c , given by various Companions . o o o

CHAPTER OF TRUTH , No . 731 . THE Installation meeting was held at the Masonic Hall , Derby , on the 17 th inst . Amongst those present were Comps . A . Woodiwiss P . Z . P . P . GJ ., Home P . Z ., Elphinstone P . Z ., Walker P . Z . P . G . D . C , Beck , Gee , Butterworth . The minutes of the previous convocation having been confirmed

the M E . Z .-elect , Comp . W . H . Wright was most ably Installed 1 st Principal , and then Installed Comp . Webb as H ., who in turn Installed Comp . Tawer as J ., tho ceremonies being impressively rendered . The following Investitures were made : Companions J . H-

Z ., who is a Vice-President of the R . M . I . Boya , Life Governor of R . M . I . G . and R . M . B . I ., announced his intention of again going up as Stoward for tho Boys .

Trie M . E . Z . received the heaity congratulations of the Visiting Companions and the Chapter was closed . The Companions dined together , tho usual toasts being duly honoured .

o o o DERBY CHAPTER , No . 1055 . A MEETING of this Chapter was held at Prestwich , on Thursday , the 27 th ult . Companions E . P . Mead Z ., S . F . Simons H ., John Wardle J ., Jno . W . Thompson P . P . G . D . C . Jno . W . Hallam , R . Hothersall

After the confirmation of minutes , and the presentation of the Treasurer ' s financial statement for the current year , the Installation of Principals and investiture of Officers took place , these functions being performed by Companion John Marshall in that fin'shed way for which he is justly renowned , not only in the Pro . 'ince of East Lancashire but in adjoining ones .

The selected candidates who were Installed were Comps . S . F . Simons , John Wardle , and J . Pollitt P . Z . Tho usual festive board followed , when Comp . Marshall took the opportunity of delivering an excellent address , mainly upon the history and objects of Royal Arch Masonry .

o o o GALLERY CHAPTER , No . 1928 . AT a convocation held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , E . C . on Saturday last , the following Companions were Installed as Principals for the ensuing year : H . F . Bussoy H . as M . E . Z ., C . K . Moore J . as H , J . C . Manning S . E . as J . The ceremonies were admirably worked by Companion E . E . Peacock P . Z .

The new M . E . Z . having been duly saluted proceeded to invest his Officers : Comp . R . J . Albery Treas ., J . Hindell Scribe E ., P , W . Husk Scribe N ., L . F . Gowing Soj ., F . W . Pattison 1 st A . Soj ., H . L . Bell 2 nd A . Soj ., H . Massey P . Z . D . O ., T . G . Scott A . D . O ., J . J . Fretwell Steward , J . Read Org ., and J . Very Janitor .

The Audit Committee then examined the accounts of the Chapter , and the business being ended the Companions adjourned to dinner , after which a pleasant evoning was spent . A very handsome P . Z . ' s jewel was presented to Comp . Peacock for his services during the year .

Lord Llangattock , the new Grand Master of the Eastern Division of South Wales has , says a local contemporary , been closely associated with Freemasonry for thirty-five years . He was Initiated in the Loyal Monmouth Lodge , No . 457 , on the 5 th April 1859 , was

Passed on the 25 th October the same year , and Raised on the 9 th November 1860 . On 10 th December 1861 he became Junior Warden , and on 3 rd February 1863 Senior . Progressing rapidly , Bro . Rolls , as he was then known , passed on to the chair of K . S ., being Installed as

W . M . on 1 st March 1864 . He occupied that position until January 1866 , and in August 1881 he was appointed Prov . G . J . Warden . The Squire of The Hendre was elevated to the peerage in 1892 . He is the eldest son of Mr . John Etherington Welch Rolls , and was born in

1837 . Being possessed of large and lucrative properties he has never lost an opportunity of assisting all good causes in the district in which he lives , and in other localities far outside . Indeed , he is an exemplary supporter of charitable institutions , and has built and

kept up several schools in parishes adjoining lhe Hendre entirely at his own expense . He was educated at Eton and at Christ Church , Oxford , and married , in 1868 , Georgiana Marcia , the youngest daughter of Sir Charles Maclean , Bart . He is a justice of the peace and deputy lieutenant for Monmouth , and a fellow of the Society of

Antiquarians . He represented Monmouth in 1880-85 , and has throughout taken an active interest in politics . o o o The Annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Mark
