That one can hardly go anywhere without finding or discovering a Mason is an apt phrase familiar to all Masons ; and in all lands and climes , among all peoples and nations , one may discover a Brother of the Mystic Craft .
A Brother of the writer , who has been in almost all lands under the sun , has never failed in proving a Mason among all the races of the earth he has travelled amongst—a singular testimony to the-wide-spread influence ofthe mystic tie that binds , and further has always found tho helpfulness loyalty of one Brother to the other , wherever met , whether on the lonely desert of
Sahara , on the plains of India , in the tropics of Africa , in the mines of Siberia , among the musical and song-loving Hawaiians , the wilds of Borneo , or on the fragrant spice-laden Isle of Ceylon . In fact , in some of the most remote countries visited he has found a Mason , and it is a refreshing experience to feel the grasp of Brotherhood and the kindly interest taken in
one's welfare , and the stick-to-it-iveness of a Mason to the other when far from home . Perhaps a most singular instance of this truth may be cited : Some years ago , being a member of an expeditionary force in the Arctic regions , the ship got locked up in the ice-bound sea . Time became somewhat monotonous . One day , venturing out for a run , he , with a companion , and with dogs and sled , wore caught in a snowstorm . Having lost their bearings ,
they finally reached land after throe days . Seeing a dim light afar off they soon drew to a hut tenanted by an Icelander , his wife and two children , Gaining admittance to the inside , they were fed and tended to by the occupants . To the surprise of both , the Icelander proved to be a Mason , and pressed them to stay for two days , till rested and refreshed . The Brothers took leave of each other , never to meet again here below .
In the Arctic , food is scarce , and this man with his family had barely enough to carry them through the long , long weary months of ice ; but when he discovered a Brother Mason in the belated and weary wanderer , he immediately changed his front and prevailed upon them to wait , showing them every possible kindness .
