degree , the W . M . congratulated the brethren on the success of the last meeting , and alluded to the effioient manner in which tho installation ceremony was worked by Bro . Wood P . M ., dwelling at some length upon his energy and ability . The W . M . then briefly referred to his forthcoming Stewardship , as representing the Lodge at the

ensuing Festival of the Royal Masoniolnstitution for Girls , expressing his satisfaction with the support already given , and his anticipations with regard to further additions to his list . Hearty good wishes having been tendered by the visitors , and the business of the evening completed , the Lodge was closed in due form .

Upton Lodge of Instruction , No . 1227 . —This Lodge held its meeting at Bro . Bolton ' s , King and Queen , Norton Folgate , on Friday , the 13 th inst . Present—Bros . Hewlett W . M ., Crouch 8 . W ., Lane J . W ., Kent S . D ., Townsend J . D ., SimpBon I . G ., Bolton , Pearcy and A . W . Fenner . Lodge was opened in due form . Tho minutes of last meeting confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was excellently

rehearsed by tho W . M ., Bro . Fenner acting as candidate . The 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd sections of tho lecture were worked by the W . M ., assisted by the brethren . Bro . Hewlett , of Lodge 141 , was nnanimously eleoted an honorary member . Bro . Hewlett being requested to take the Preceptorship of the Lodge , declined doing so , bnt kindly

agreed to become acting Preceptor until another brother was permanently elected to tho office . Bro . Crouch was elected W . M . for the ensuing week . This being the first time of the W . M . ocoupying the chair of K . S ., a vote of thanks was awarded him for tho able manner he had fulfilled the duties of the same . Lodge was then closed and adjourned .

This Lodge held its weekly meeting on Friday , the 13 th of April , at fhe Castle Tavern , Hollo way , N . Present—Bros . Sparrow W . M ., Chant S . W ., Ager J . W ., Dickinson Sec , Eldridge Treas ., Yeomans S . D ., Rowe J . D ., Humphries I . G . ; also Bros . Mash ,. Cough trey , Wright , Shackle , Hunter , Powell , Passingham , T . Cull Preceptor , and other brethren . The Lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous meeting confirmed . The Lodge was opened

in the 2 nd degree , and the ceremony of passing rehearsed , Bro . Powell being the candidate . The 1 st and 4 th sections were worked by the brethren , the 2 nd by Bro . Dickinson , the 3 rd by Bro . Shackle , and the 5 th by Bro . Chant , Bro . Cull putting the questions . The Lodge was closed down , and Bro . Chant elected W . M . for the ensuing week . A vote of thanks was accorded to Bro . Sparrow for so ably presiding as W . M . for the first time in the Lodge . The Lodge was then closed , aud adjourned .

Wanderer ' s Lodge , No . 1804 . —This flourishing Lodge , exclusively established for the purpose of diffusing Masonic knowledge amongst the military brethren stationed in London , met to celebrate their first anniversary on Tuesday , the 10 th inst ., at Freemason's Hall , Great Queen-street , Bro . S . H . Meredith P . M . ( in tho absence of the W . M ., who is stationed in Cork ) opened the Lodge punctually at

three o clock , and in a very perfect and impressive manner raised three brethren , passed two , and initiated five candidates into the Order . Bro . Quartermaster Sergeant W . J . Parish was then presented to the Lodge . A Board of Installed Masters was formed , and he was duly installed into the chair by Bro . Meredith , who rendered the ceremony . M ., who ably presided , proposed the usual Loyal toasts , which were duly responded to . The health

of the W . M . was proposed in a very excellent speech . Bro . Parish thanked the brethren for their kind expressions , and the hearty response given to the toast . He was fully sensible of the honour conferred on him in placing him in the chair , and he was deeply impressed with the responsibilities attached to the offico . He would always have the interest of the Lodge at heart , and hoped , dnring

his period of office , to give the members satisfaction . He was proud of the prosperous condition of the Lodge , which now numbered one hundred members , representing nearly every corps in H . M . service . He referred to the balance-sheet , which showed a balance of £ 36 , after repaying a loan of £ 75 , purchasing £ 52 worth of furniture ,

giving £ 11 to the Masonio charities , and paying Grand Lodge dues , & c , to the amount of £ 124 . He hoped he might show as good a balance at the expiration of his year of office . This he would endea . your to do by strict economy . In conclusion , he hoped that peace and harmony wonld reign supreme among them . The W . M . then proposed the toast of the Initiates . Visitations of Provincial Grand Chapter of Lanarkshire . —On Thursday , 12 th April , Comp . F . A . Barrow , P . G . Superintendent of Lanarkshire , accompanied by Comps . J . Mitchell P . G . J ., Jas . Balfour P . G . Scribe E ., G . W . Wheeler P . G . ScribeN ., T . Halket P . G . T ., G . MacDonald P . G . 3 rd S ., and J . M . Oliver P . G . S . B ., paid a visit to Chapter 50 . Tho Chapter was opened by tho M . E Z ., Comp . Wm . Bell , who was ably assisted by Comps . J . Louttit H ., Colin

McKonzie J ., F . Morrison S . E ., P . Agnew T ., J . Leeds , R . Trainer and J . Wright Sojourners . The P . G . S . E . reported that they had found all the books admirably kept , and the Chapter in good working order . The P . G . Superintendent said that , not only in his official capacity , but also as an old P . Z . of 50 , he was glad to find that his Mother Chapter was contiuuing to work so satisfactorily . Like many

other bodies , it had had its vicissitudes , but it had surmounted them , and if , during the past year , they had had but few exaltations , if the quality of their candidates was considered , ho thought they should not repine ; still , he was glad to find that , under Comp . Bell , this year would show a large increase in membership , and he trusted , indeed , in tho quality of the material , for that , after all , was the

test of true prosperity . Comp . Bell thanked the P . G . S ., and the deputation for their visit , as well as for the kind words spoken ; they were the more valuable coming from the source they did , for they all knew there was not a better working Mason , either in the Craft or Arch , than Comp . Barrow . Ho was glad to see him at the head of the Red , and if hard work in the Province was deserving of

recognition , he should also be at the head of the Bine—a position he yet hoped to see him occupy . Comp . Barrow said he was quite satisfied with the honours he had obtaiued , and had resigned his office of D . P . G . M . of the Province that ho might devote more of his time to the Arch and the other high degrees of Masonry . Comp . J . M . Oliver , tho only member of the deputation not already an honorary member

of 50 , was then affiliated , and the deputation withdrew . A Mark Lodge was thereafter opened , and C . MacKenzie J . conferred that degree on Bro . J . Higgins , M . M . of Lodge 73 . On Friday , the 18 tb , Comp . Barrow , with his officers , visited the Commercial Chapter No . 79 . In the absence of Comp . D . Lamb 1 st Principal , the Chapter was opened by his Deputy , Comp . J . Munro , Comps . J .

E . reported the state of the books as being faultless . Comp . Barrow congratulated the Comps . on getting this clear bill of health , but it was what he expeoted from what he knew of Comp . Oliver as an office-bearer in P . G . C ; and although

he was sorry for the absence of the 1 st Principal , still whije he hud so good a Deputy as Comp . Munro , whose work in the Commercial Lodge was well known , the Chapter would not suffer much . They had only latterly been re . eonstitnted , and he believed that Comp . Munro had done much , not only to get the Chapter re-opened , but also to secure its prosperity when open . Comp . Munro thanked the

P . G . Superintendent for his kind remarks j it was true he had taken some interest in the Chapter , but if they had known beforehand how little assistance they should get from the old members , they might have hesitated ; but , thanks to the deputation , and especially Comps . Duthie and Wheeler , they had never wanted assistance when there was work to be done , and he thought they now stood in a very prond

position . He thanked the P . G . S . and his officers for their visit , and their kind expressions towards himself and tho Chapter . After the deputation retired , Comp . Duthie opened a Mark Lodge , and conferred that degree in his usual able style . On Tuesday , the Superintendent and hi 3 officers visited the St . Andrew Chapter , No . 69 , and highly eulogised the working of Comp . T . M . Campbell and his officers .

The Chapter had been in a low state , but since Comp . Campbell had again assumed the 1 st Principal's chair , their success had been very marked , proving that good work will surely raiso the Order and secure members . On Wednesday , the Shamrock and Thistle , No . 87 , was visited , and Comp . George Muir its Z . was complimented on the progress the Chapter had made . There had been 19 exaltations last

year , and the present one promises to be equally successful . There was a good attendance of members and visitors . Patrick Chapter , 113 , was visited on Wednesday , the 5 tb , and tho deputation was received by Comp . J . Halket Z . The examination of the books was satisfactory , but the attendance of the members was but small . This is the more to be regretted , as Comp . Halket , P . G . Treas ., its Z ., is one of the best working Arch Masons in the Province .

A complimentary soirie Dansante will be held at the Manor Rooms , Mare-street , Hackney , on Wednesday next , under the auspices of Bro . Hadley Prestage . The large ball room will be elegantly decorated for the occasion , and Payne's band will be in attendance . Tickets may bo had at tho offico , Amhurst-road , Hackney , E . Prices as follows : —Gentlemen ' s , five shillings each ; Ladies ' , three shillings and sixpence j double tickets , seven shillings . We trust Bro .
