ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS .

A QUARTERLY General Court of the Governors and Subscribers was held on Saturday , the 14 th inst ., at Freemaso » s' Hall , Great Queen . street , Bro . Col . Creaton , Vice-President , in the chair . Bro . R . W . Little , Sec ., read the minutes of the former court , which were confirmed . Bro . S . Rawson , D . G . M . China , proposed , and Bro . R . W . Stewart P . G . D . seoonded , the re-election of Bro . Samuel

Tomkina G . T , as Treasurer of tho Institution . This was oarried unanimously . Twelve members were eleoted on the Committee of the Institution , and Scrutineers were appointed for the election . Bro . H . G . Warren proposed : — " That , having regard to the increased income of the Institution and tha altered position of the Secretary and Collector , it ia expedient

that Rules 74 and 75 shall be so amended as to provide that the Seoretary shall give security for £ 1 , 000 , the Secretary ' s Chief Clerk £ 500 , and any other Clerks £ 250 each ; such security to be provided through an approved Guarantee Society , and the premiums paid by this Institution , so as not to be a burthen on the officials . " There being no seconder , the motion fell to the ground .

The motion of Bro . F . W . H . Ramsay , M . D . : — " That the proposition of Bro . Warren , as to the Guarantees , be referred to a Select Committee , composed of : —Col . Creaton and Col . Burdett , Trustees , Bros . W . Hyde Pullen , Wm . Roebuck , D . M . Dewar , Raynham W . Stewart , John Mason , Dr . Ramsay , with power to add to their number , "—was withdrawn . Bro . Raynham W . Stewart P . G . D . V . P . proposed , and Bro . H . A .

Dubois seconded , " That the Quarterly Courts in January and July shall be held in future at Four o ' clock , instead of Twelve o ' clock . " An amendment was proposed by Bro . H . G . Warren , that the hour remain as hitherto , and after some remarks from Bros . Bodenham , John Symonds , J . Smith and Col . Bnrney , the amendment W & B oarried .

THE Quarterly General Court of the Governors and Subscribers waB held at Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street , Lincoln ' sinn . fields , on Monday , the 16 th day of April 1877 , Bro . J . Symonds P . G . D . in the chair . Bro . G . Plnckett was unanimously elected Treasurer . The notice of motion given by Bro . H . G . Warren : — " That , having regard to the increased income of the Institution ,

The following notice of motion by Bro . Raynham W . Stewart : — " That the meetings of the Quarterly General Courts in January and July be held at 4 p . m . instead of 12 noon , "—was also withdrawn . Bro . Dr . Ramsay gave notice of motion : — " That it be an instruction to the General Committee from this Quarterly Court to consider the propriety of convening a Special

General Court of the Institution , at which the Report of the House Committee , together with the architect ' s reports and plans , and a detailed estimate of the proposed expenditure , may be fully and carefully considered . " Twelve brethren were elected members of the General Committee , to represent the life and annual subscribers . Scrutineers were

appointed , and the election for 12 boys from an approved list of 59 candidates waB then proceeded with . Full particulars of the ballot appear on another page . The Chairman announced that 12 boys had been elected , but No . 2 on the list , Richard George Head , and No . 6 , John Butterworth , had

eaoh polled 1491 votes . It was proposed , seconded , and unanimously carried that both lads should be declared elected , a decision that gave great satisfaction . A vote of thaDks was aooorded to the Scrutineers for their arduous duties .

Bro . R . J . Webster returned thanks . Bro . Boddington proposed , and Bro . H . M . Levy seoonded , that a vote of thanks be accorded to tho Chairman , Bro . John Symonds P . G . D ., for bis able and impartial presidency . This also was carried unanimousl y .

CONSECRATION OF THE SAMSON LODGE , No . 1668 .

UNDER moat promising auspices , this new Lodge was consecrated on Wednesday , the 18 th inBt ., at Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street . At the appointed hour , the assembled brethren , members and visitors , entered the Lodge . room in procession , when Bro . H . Muggeriage P . M ., whom the M . W . G . Bros . Cottebrune P . G . P . as P . M ., Albert P . M . G . P . S . W ., E . Gottheil P . M . J . W ., Lazarns W . M . 180 I . G ., John Constable P . M . 185 D . C ., and S . Hickman P . M . 180 as acting G . S . pro . tern . The Lodge having been formally opened in the three degrees and the Warrant read , the Consecrating Master proceeded to deliver an oration on the utility , advantages and privileges of Freemasonry . Forcibly and

most eloquently wero pointed out the principles which should guide every true Mason , and tho zeal aud fidelity with which the important duties of the Order shonld be performed . The speaker aptly illustrated the outward life of men by tho dearees of tho Order , and urged his hearers to bo earnest , faithful and diligent in building the spiritual temple higher and higher until the topmost stone reached the

heavens . Tho vouerablo orator , though greatly suffering from indisposition , spoko with ferveuoy and considerable power , and was listened to with breathless attention by the assembly , who manifested their appreciation by a burst of applause at the end of the disoourse . The Lodge was then duly consecrated in accordance with prescribed form , Bro . Bilby P . M . 185 conducting the musical portion with well-known

ability . Bro . Muggeridge then vacated tho chair in favour of Bro . A . D . Loewenstark P . M ., father of the W . M . designate , to whom the duty of installation had been assigned . Bro . M . D . Loewenstark having been presented and duly installed W . M . of the new Lodge , appointed his officers as follows : —Bros . J . D . Barnett P . M . S . W ., W , H . G . Rudderforth J . W ., A . D . Loewenstark I . P . M . and Treasurer ,

Charles Ochse S . D ., Baron D . Barnett J . D . and Secretary , Lever I . G ., and Oberdorfer Tyler . Bro . Muggeridge received the compliment of honorary membership , and thanks wero voted to the brethren who assisted in the duties of the proceedings . Next followed a richtrche banquet , and tho customary toasts were given and responded to . The W . M . gave the health of the Queen , and

said Loyalty and Freemasonry have ever gone hand in hand , none are more devoted to the Throne than members of the Order . He next submitted tho name of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales M . W . G . M ., and went on to descant upon the virtues of the Pro Grand Master the Earl of Carnarvon , the Deputy Lord Skelmersdale , and the rest of the Present and Past Grand Officers . Bro . Albert

G . P ., whose name was coupled with the toast , and of whom the W . M . spoke in the most flattering terms , pointing out tho great services that Brother had rendered to the Craft , and whose worth bad been recognised by Grand Lodge in electing him for the office he now holds , expressed his thanks , and said , let nnity and concord be your watchword and the Lodge ' s prosperity is seonre . Bro . Muggeridge

proposed the health of the W . M . It was a most pleasing duty ; having known the father intimately for the last 30 years , and the son ever since he was a child , it may be well imagined how gratif y * ing it was to him to have consecrated the Samson Lodge , in which the latter presides as the first Master . From his knowledge of the W . M . he had no doubt all the duties of his office would be performed

to the satisfaction of the Lodge . The Worshipful Master , in hia reply , observed , that he really could not find words sufficiently ex . presaive of his gratitude for the manner in which his name has been submitted and received . As first Master of the Samson Lodge , ib would be his aim to lay a foundation which shonld make it what the name implies , a fabric of strength , not only in respect to the number

of its members , but the quality of those who may hereafter be enrolled . With the assistance of hia officers , he would endeavour to secure for it a standing A 1 in the Craft . The W . M . next gave the Consecrating Officer , who , in his response , regretted that the deli , cate state of his health precluded the idea of having performed the duties with the amount of satisfaction he conld have desired j at the

same time he was pleased to find the brethren were kind enough to be contented . He would take this opportunity to inform the meeting that the Stability Lodge of Instruction , in whioh he had been Preceptor for thirty-eight yearB , "will bold its anniversary at the City Terminus Hotel , Cannon-street , on Friday , the 27 th inst ., on which occasion he hoped to meet some of those who were then around him . Seven of the sections will he worked

by competent brethren , and they may be sure of a pleasant evening , aa a banquet will follow , at whioh Bros . Fred . Cousins , Chaplin Henry and Symonds , of tho Temple Choir , will give their musical services . The W . M . then proposed the Recommending Lodge , to which Bro . John Peartree W . M . 185 , responded , and in his speech referred to tho gratification he had experienced that eTening in witnessing for the

first time , though a Mason for over 27 years , the ceremony of consecrating a Lodge . In despotic countries , Freemasonry is dis . couraged and often persecuted , in this land of freedom its growth ia fostered , hence the great increase in the number of Lodges , of which this ia youngest on the roll . With the best wishes for its prosperity and success , he trusted they would meet in happiness and unity

until time shall be no more . Bro . D . Posener , the Senior Warden of the Recommending Lodge , said he signed the petition with the conviction that the names of the petitioners were sufficiently distinguished in the Craft to induce the Grand Master to grant a warrant without any other recommendation at all . The Visitors ' toast was replied to by Bios . Cottebrune and Gottheil . In proposing

prosperity to the Charities , the W . M . said that this Lodge had been established not only for the purpose of Instruction and enjoyment , but with the special view of rendering assistance to the Institutions . Masonry teaches that men should not exist for themselves alone , but for the support of others , and therefore the Charities should bo nobly supported . Previous to thia toast , the ladies , who most kindly

assisted in the musical part of the programme , had been admitted , Bro . F . Binckes therefore replied as follows : Ladies and Brethren , I havo to offer a word of apology for my seeming neglect in tailing to reply to the invitation you so kindly sent me , hat when you . consider my numerous engagements , and if I give expression

of sincere regret for my shortcoming I am sate you will grant mo full and unconditional absolution . I ri'lao very highly the compliments the W . M . was good enoug h to express , and am rejoiced to see the ladies amongst us , they charm with their presence as well aa with their voices and talent . The delightful melody of " Home sweet home , " which has been BO well rendered , must have impressed
