THE Lodge of Benevolence held its meeting for May on Wednesday evening , at Freemasons' Hall . Bros . J . M . Clabon , Jos . Nunn , and James Brett occupied the chairs of President , and Senior and Junior Vice-Presidents . The Board of Masters had the agenda paper for next Grand Lodge , 1 st of Juno , read to them . The Lodgo of
Benevolence confirmed the recommendations of Grants made at last meeting to the amount of £ 365 . They considered the new cases , of which there were thirty on the list . Three of these in the course of the evening were deferred , tho remaining twenty-seven were relieved with a total amonnt of £ 760 . The Lodge was then closed .
St . John ' s Lodge , No . 795 , Maidenhead . —The first meeting of this summer Lodge was held on Wednesday , 18 th inst ., at Bro . Deacon ' s , the Eaymead Hotel , Maidenhead . Present—Bros . Capt . John Finch W . M . 173 and 180 , H . H . Hodges P . M . Secretary , T . B . Linscott J . D ., John Greenfield 1602 D . C , C . Nowell Tyler , and numerous visitors , principally from the Phcenix Lodge . The minutes
of the last meeting , in October , having been read and confirmed , a ballot was taken for Bro . Edw . William Allen P . M . 173 , as a joining member , and declared unanimous . Tho ceremony of raising Bro . John Napier Fulton , of the Eoyal Savoy Lodge 1744 , to the sublime degree of M . M ., jyas then most ably and impressively performed by the W . M ., Bro . John Greenfield acting as S . D . Letters of apology from
P . M . ' s Sharpe and Foulger having been read , for the absence of the former through serious indisposition , and for the latter through other causes , the Lodge was closed in solemn form , and adjourned until next month . We are glad to state that , as predicted by us in October last , a nnmber of brethren , visitors from the Phcenix Lodge , wero
proposed as joining members ; at the same time ifc is very unsatisfactory to find so many Officers absent when important work has to be done . A large number of the brethren and visitors made a trip of 24 miles by drag to Hughenden Manor in tho morning , and we need hardly state that ample justice was done to a plain dinner , provided with his usual tasto by Bro . . NEW SADIER ' S WELIS . —During the present week Mr . H . J . Byron ' s popular drama Blow for Bloio has beeu played , and with very great success . A noticeable feature about the performance is the evenness of the cast , there not being a single character whioh was nofc adequately interpreted , while , in several instances , the artistes exhibited a thorough appreciation of the parts severally assigned to them . Thus
Mr . E . Lyons played Charley Spraggs , one of the finest of the late Mr . George Honey's delineations . Kitty Wobbler , in which Miss E . Weathersby made such an impression , was interpreted by Miss Laura Lindon , while Mildred Craddock in the Prologue , and Alice Petherick in the drama were played most ably by Miss Isabel Bateman , whose impersonation of tho twin parts elicited the warmest applause .
