THE BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION .

THE annual meeting and election of annuitants of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution was held yesterday ( Friday ) , at Freemasons' Tavern , Great Queen Street , London . The fourteen vacancies on the Male Fund were increased

to seventeen , by reason of deaths among the annuitants since the voting papers were issued . There were fifty-seven candidates on the list , one of whom had , however , withdrawn his application , thus there remains a list of thirty-nine to carry forward . The votes polled by the successful candidates

ranged from 5 , 639 to 3 , 6 9 8 . On the Widows side there were also three additional vacancies caused by deaths since the papers were issued , and thus the number to be elected was increased to twelve

with a list of sixty-two candidates , reduced to fifty-nine by two deaths and one withdrawal . Forty-seven candidates therefore remain to go forward . Those successful polled votes ranging from 7 , 280 in the case of No . 1 , to 4 , 120 for No . 12 .

The consolation grants , of £ j , £ 6 10 s , and £ 5 respectively , were secured by No . 27 , Thomas Knowles , 3 , 647 votes ; No . 3 J , John Alford , 3 , 514 votes ; and No . 4 6 , Charles

Henry Prichard , 3 , 449 votes , on the Male side ; and by No . 16 , Matilda Notteile , 4 , 065 votes ; No . 48 , Catherine Hilton' , 4 , 043 votes ; and No . 21 , Sarah Matilda Hodges , 3 , 8 49 votes , among the Widows .
