in Cromer , Yarmouth and other East coast resorts , which are now served by a joint working between the Midland and Great Northern Companies . In addition to all this the special facilities offered to tourist and other travellers by the Midland is a further inducement to patronise this truly go-ahead Company .

Under the circumstances wo have just referred to , the Midland serving so wido a district , it would be invidious to further mention any particular points of attraction on this Company ' s system , but every information can be obtained from tho Timo

Church Service.

CHURCH SERVICE .

A SPECIAL service was held on St . John ' s Day in the Parish Church , Keady , under the auspices of the Zetland Lodge , No . 78 ( I . C ) . Bro . the Bev . J . Johnstone Walker , B . A ., Bangor , says the " Belfast News-Letter , " preached the anniversary sermon , selecting for his text , Jeremiah xxix ., 16 .

He said— "We of the Masonic Brotherhood are assembled in this place to-day to acknowledge our duty to the Maker of the universe , to raise our voices in common praise to Him , to bow low before His footstool , and to hear His most blessed word of Revelation , which is able to make us wise unto salvation . Notwithstanding the vaunted infallibility of the bishop who sits upon the throne of the City of the Seven Hills , by which he has

placed us under ban and sentence of excommunication , we are not atheists and unbelievers . If a member of our ancient and time-honoured society is a bad man , it is not because he is a Mason ; it is the fault and corruption of his nature . We freely admit that all

Masons are not what they should be . There are black sheep in every flock , and tares will grow among the wheat until the end of the present dispensation . If we are bad , it is not the fault of the truths and principles which we hold . We are taught , first and foremost , to place our trust , like the man mentioned in the text , in Almi £ ? htv God . and that not onlv in the time of danger . tf

Q J J # * -f We are taught our duty to our neighbours , the universal brotherhood of mankind ; but just as it is incumbent upon believers to be specially mindful of those who belong to the household of faith , so we , whilst we honour all men , love the Brotherhood . Our guiding rule of

action is the law of charity . It is true of us , in a very special sense , we are nothing ; we are as sounding brass and a tinkling cymbal ; without charity we have no raison d ' etre . The object and end of our existence is to promote

Church Service.

fellowship and good-will , to advance tbe cause of peace , love , and harmony . It is sometimes said that we are a secret society . It is true in a certain sense . We have certain passwords and signs by which we can reveal ourselves to one another . But the truths which we are

taught in a symbolical and beautifully typical way , and in a manner only known to ourselves , are no secrets . You can become acquainted with them any time . They are written in an ancient book , one of the most ancient in

the world . They are contained in the Book of books . There is no book which we hold so dear and sacred as this . " In conclusion , the preasher made an appeal on behalf of the Masonic Orphan School . Human instinct itself taught them their duty to the fatherless and orphan , and the Brethren present would not allow the traditions of their Free and Accepted Graft to fall into abeyance then ; for they knew that the great Architect of the world and the Grand Artificer of the Universe was at the same time the Father of the fatherless , and the All-seeing Eye now and ever upon them .

The Provincial Grand Lodge of Norfolk was held on Thursday , at Norwich , under the presidency of the Kt . Hon . Lord Suffield Provincial Grand Master . "We shall give a report of the proceedings next week .

o o o The Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire was held on the 17 th , at the Green Dragon Hotel , Hereford , the usual business being disposed of .
