BOARD OF BENEVOLENCE .

BEOTHEE EOBEET GREY presided at the monthly meeting of the Board of Benevolence which was held on Wednesday evening , at Freemasons' Hall , with Bros . C . A . Cottebrune acting as Senior Vice-President , and C . J . R . Tijou as Junior Vice-President .

Board Of Benevolence.

Eecommendations made at fche August meeting to the amount of £ 60 were confirmed , and out of the new lisfc of twenfcy-two cases three were deferred , the remaining nineteen receiving a total of £ 500 . One case was recommended to Grand Lodge for

£ 150 , and another petitioner for £ 50 . The Grand Master was recommended to grant £ 30 iu each of three cases , and the Board made immediate grants of £ * 20 in six instances , £ 15 in two , and £ 10 in six cases It was the shortest meeting the Board had had for a considerable period , lasting less than two hours .

Devon Educational Fund.

DEVON EDUCATIONAL FUND

A MEETING of fche General Purposes Committee of the Devon Masonic Educational Fund was held on Tuesday afternoon , at the Freemasons' Hall , Princess Square , Plymouth , to make arrangements for the election to be held in October . Brother Samuel Jew , one of the oldest Life-Governors of the Institution , was voted to the chair , and there were also present

Bros . J . B . Gover , Hon . Secretary , W . H . Dillon , Hon . Assist .-Secretary , J . E . Lord Hon . Treasurer , & c . The Treasurer reported that at the meeting held in April last there were twenty-four children on the fund , but since then six had gone off , and three more would go off before the end of

the year , bringing the number down to fifteen . This is the smallest number that has been on the fund for many years , and it was unanimously decided , on the motion of Brother Gregory , to elect three more at the meeting in October , to be held at Exeter . The date of the election will be announced in the

course of nexfc week . Ifc was also resolved to ask Brother W . Willoughby , who had so successfully conducted previous concerts , to undertake the arrangements for another concert on behalf of the Educational Fund , to be held in Plymouth Guildhall during the month of November . Last year fche concert resulted in a net profit of about £ 100 .

Bro . Jew , in acknowledging a vote of thanks for presiding , expressed a belief thafc the nexfc concert would be similarly successful . •The Educational Fund was doing an excellent work , and he was glad to see that so much interest was taken in ifc . — " Western Morning News . "

WEST LANCASHIRE

A MEETING of- the Benevolent and Charity Committee of . the Provincial Grand Lodge was held on the 13 th , at the Masonic Hall , Hope Street , Liverpool , for the purpose of considering several applications for grants from the fund . Bro . E . Wylie D . P . G . M . occupied the chair , and there was a large attendance of Brethren from Liverpool and various parts of the Province .

Bro . W . Goodacre P . G . S . B . read the minutes of the last meeting , held at Preston , and expressed his thanks for the vote of sympathy which was then passed to him in connection wifch his illness . He also made the gratifying announcement that their three candidates for the Boys School , one candidate for the Old Men ' s and one for the Old Women ' s Benevolent Fund in

London had been elected . Petitions for grants from the fund , on behalf of several widows and distressed Brethren , were considered , and sums in relief to the amount of £ 75 were made . The appropriation of

votes at the disposal of the Province at the October elections for Boys and Girls for the London Institutions was next discussed and arranged . Tho proceedings closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman . —" Liverpool Mercury . "

r"nHEEE was a large attendance of Brethren from various JL Lodges in the North Wales Province at Colwyn Bay , on Wednesday , when the consecration took place of the St . Trillo Lodge , No . 2569 . The ceremony was performed by Lord Harlech

had charge of the musical arrangements . In the evening there was a banquet at the Imperial Hotel , after which the Bangor Cathedral Quartette party , under Bro . T . Westlake-Morgan the Cathedral Organist , appeared and rendered several interesting part songs .
