Committee having been adopted , a jewel was unanimously voted to Bro . James Freeman , -with the thanks of tho brethren , on his resignation of the office of Treasurer . A proposition was handed in and the Lodge was closed . Tho brethren adjourned to tho banquetting hall , whore a sumptuous repast was served . Grace after meat having been sung , tho VV . M . rose and proposed tho health of

the Queen j Masonry ancl Loyalty , ho said , had ever gone hand in hand , and he was sure the brethren would give tho toast a hearty welcome . The next toast was that of the Grand Master , and in proposing it tlie W . M . referred to tho position occupied by his Eoyal Highness in tho Craft . "God Save tho Queen" and "God Bless tho Prince of Wales " were sung after the above toasts ; in the

latter , Bro . Hook ( who had tbe direction of tho musical arrangements ) gave , in first rate style , a verse composed by himself . The W . M . then gave the E . W . tho Pro Graud Master Tho Earl of Carnarvon , whoso services , he said , were unequalled ; ho was entitled to our best respect and esteem . The capital four-part song , " I love my love in the morning , " was then sung . In proposing

the Deputy Grand Master and the rest of the Grand Officers , the W . M . remarked that Grand Lodge was formed of those brethren who have gained distinction in the Craft . The toast was a very comprehensive one , and he was pleased to see so many members of Grand Lodge at the table with him . He noticed , especially , one of the oldest members , Bro . Cox , and likewise Bros . John Hervey , Cottebruno , Simpson , Fenn ,

and others , who ho was pleased to see , and would always be welcome . Bro . Cox P . G . C . said it gave him great satisfaction to respond to the toast . He was gratified to see the way tho brethren honoured tho names of tho Grand Officers . The great work of onr Order was , he said , in full activity . That afternoon there had been

tho election for the Girls' School , and on Monday that of the Boys' would take place . Bro . Fenn considered it rather unfortunate to bo second in responding to the toast . The Grand Officers would always devote themselves to the interests of the Craft , and in illustration of this he drew the attention of tho brethren to the fact that

on the 24 th Nov . tho Fifteen Sections would be -worked at the Emulation Locige of Improvement , on which occasion the Earl of Carnarvon would preside , and eight of the Sections would be worked by Grand Officers . Bro . Sees , in responding to tho "VV . M . of tho Great City Lodge , " which was proposed by the I . P . M ., said ho had tho pleasure of presiding for tho first time over one of tho most important Lodges

in the City of Loudon , and nothing should bo wanting on hia part to render him worthy of tho position ho occujiied . He then proposed " Tho Initiates , " of whom there were seven , five having beeu initiated at a Locige of Emergency , aud two tliat evening ; he hoped they would all prove themselves worthy members . " Tho Visitors" was next proposed . The W . M . said that it was a toast that was always

received at tho " Great City" with enthusiasm . He was always glad to see visitors , and they would always Hud a welcome . He hoped they had given them some instruction iu tho Lodge , and some pleasure at the table . He was proud of the number of brethren who were mentioned on the list as visitors , aud trusted they had spent a pleasant evening . Bros , Cottebruno , Swallow W . M . 15 G 3 , Dyer ancl others replied .

The health of the Immediate Past Master , Bro . Towneud , was then given by the W . M ., who said the way in which Bro . Towneud had conducted the business of the Lodge had won him tho esteem of the brethren , and as a mark of their gratitude , he had the honour of presenting him a I ' ast Master ' s jeweJ , which he hoped would long bo worn by the brother . Bro . Towneud expressed regret at being no

longer W . M . of the Great City Lodge , but was pleased to know he had gained the approval of the brethren . He considered the moment one of tbe proudest of his life , he could nut say tlie proudest ' , ns be considered when ho retired from tho chyir of his . Mother Lodge thai that was the proudest position a Mason could occupy . Tho "Past Musters" « as responded to bv Bros . Headon aud Stevens . Bro .

Hervey G . tj . rose and proposed ihe next toast , which he would lake tho liberty of altering ; it stood "Prosperity to the Grout City Lod ^ e . " He would suggest the addition uf tho word " continued , " lor ho was suio vuey would all admit that the Lodge 1 ms been , from the iiist , prosperous . Three years ago he had the pleasure of consecrating tho Lud ^ e , aud he now considered

himself m the light of its father . On the occasion of the consecration upuaids of £ 00 members weie present , aud he was support id by first-class biethien , the Wardens' cluuis being , on that occasion , lihed by Bros . Peon and fciavuge , the latter of whom was , he regretted to say , no more . All who witnessed that ceremony

went away highly gratified . He had brought the Lodgo into existence , and he was pleased to see the way iu which the work was done . 'Ihe prosperity of the Locige was due to its Past Master .:, who had worked hard , aud he considered it was greatly to the credit of the Lodge that recruits came to it from all parts of London . He was pleased with his visit , and thanked , the brethren f or their hospitality .

Tho W . M ., in proposing the " Treasurer aud Secretary , " said he had a pleasing duty to perform , which was to present to Bro . Freeman , their late Treasurer , a jewel , which ho hoped he would wear as a recognition by the brethren of tho duties he had so willingly undertaken . Bro . Freeman suitably responded . The Secretary , tho W . M considered , was tho most important officer in tho Lodgo , and he had to

thank Bro . Moody for what ho had done , aud to ask for his valuable assistance in the fnture . The I . P . M . took this opportunity of publicly thanking the Secretary for the assistance he had rendered during the past year , and hoped that future Masters would havo him as a guide . Bro . Moody was gratified at the remarks of the W . M . and I . P . M . Ho found that tho duties of Secretary to so largo a Lodge occupied a great deal of time , and if ho did appear another year as

Secretary , all ho wanted was to meet with a reception such as had just been accorded to him , even though it might bo as " Past" Secretary . " The Masonic Charities , " " Tho Officers , " and tho " Tyler ' s " toast brought a very pleasant evening to a close . Tho musical programme of Bro . W . H . Hook , who was assisted by Miss Jessie Eoyd and Messrs . Bernard , Daniel , Morgan , and Bamford , was most praiseworthy , and only " the ilight of time " stopped the enthusiasm of tho brethren , who frequently called for encores .

It is only right we should bear testimony to the increasing zeal and earnestness of our Lodges of Instruction . Next week on no less than three evenings will our London readers have an opportunity of hearing the Fifteen Sections worked , and that too in a highly creditable manner . Tuesday evening is set apart for this purpose by the

Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction , Royal Edward , Triangle , Hackney ; Wednesday by tho Confidence , Masons' Hall , Masons' Avenue ; and Friday by the Burdett Coutts , Approach Tavern , Approach Road , Victoria Park . The following are the lists of those brethren who will work the Sections at the several Lodges above named ; and as there

are those among our readers -who have their special " fancy" for this or that exponent or instructor , it is highly probable there will be a strong muster each evening . For this reason , and in order that our constituents may be in a position to compare the several renderings , we give the full lists of those who will take part in the business of the respective meetings .
