of his life , surrounded as he seemed to bo with a host of friends on every side . No one could feol more proud than he after the flattering expressions uttered by his immediate predecessor , and fully endorsed by the members . Neither conld he find words to express what be felt at the kind reception accorded him . He oppreciated thoir kindness and assured them he shonld never forget it .

The toast of the Installing Master and the other P . M . s of the Lodge was next given j the Master complimenting his predecessor on the work he had performed that day , and the ability he had displayed in it , while as regarded the Past Masters generally he considered they bad as good a display as could be found anywhere in the metropolis . He specially referred to Bro . W . M . Stiles , than whom

there was not a harder working Mason in England . One special matter he desired to draw their attention to was that they hoped very soon to have one of their number enrolled as a Grand Officer . Thoir Brother W . M . Stiles would be nominated afc the next meeting of Grand Lodge for the office of . Treasurer o ? England , and they hoped in due course to see him afc the top of the poll , bufc they must

not merely talk of supporting him , they must benp and doing , using every effort iu thoir power ' o secure for him the coveted honour he sought . AU the other l ' .. st Masters were good and trusty friends , who soemed to aim at doing all that lay in their power for the good of the Metropolitan Lodge . Bro . I . P . M . Fraser replied . After what he had already said in Lodge

to express his thanks for the way in whioh he had been supported he felfc he need hardly thank them again , but he felt deeply indebted to the membera for all they had done during his term of office . He hoped to be with them for many years to come , to enjoy the ease and repose he hoped he had fully earned . Ho looked forward to many years of pleasure with them as a Past Master , enjoying the company

of the brethren without the cares and anxiety of office . Bro . Scales also replied , and was followed by Bro . W . M . Stiles , who said the complimentary remarks of the Worshipfnl Master were enough to make any one blush , much less a modest Past Master of fche Metropolitan Lodge . Meeting after a long summer recess they found the same hearty enthusiasm among the members of the Lodge as had

been experienced in the past , a faot whioh augured well for its future success . He was pleased to see no less than ten of the Fast Masters present , among them some who had grown grey or bald in the service of the Lodge , and were as willing as ever to do what they could for its advancement . A subject very dear to his heart had been touched npon by fche Master , when he had spoken in regard to his

candidature for tho Grand Treasurership . He fully appreciated the great amount of support he was receiving , and hoped the efforts of his friends would be crowned with success . He was sanguine as to the result , but they could nofc have too many workers , as he desired to win by such a majority as would prove that his supporters might bo counted by thousands rather than by hundreds . They musfc

not forget there wag always the possibility of some one coming forward stronger than he . Whether he had the good fortune to be chosen as the Grand Treasurer or nob they would always find him ready to acknowledge the kindness he had received at the hands of the Metropolitan Lodge . Bro . T . 0 . Edmonds also replied to the toasfc , and considered it a

very flattering compliment to be called npon fco speak to it . Ho had been associated with the Lodge for many years , and experienced great pleasure seeing the members rise step by step to fche highest posts in it . The Master nexfc gave the toasfc of tho Visitors . This was a matter very dear to him , inasmuch as it was throngh being a visitor

himself he had risen to his present proud position in the Metropolitan Lodge . The good friend on his right ( Bro . W . A . Scurrah ) introduced him as a visitor to the Metropolitan Lodge , and he had never forgotten that kindness , nor should he , now that it bad led him to snch distinction . Their Lodge had always shown especial cordiality towards visitors , and he felt sure that under his Mastership it would

lose none of its reputation in this respect . Bro . Griffiths W . M . 1310 , Bro . Knight W . M . 2005 , Bro . Russell P . M . 72 , and Bro . Scurrah P . M . 167 responded . Bro . Griffiths had known many of the members at the Metropolitan Lodge of Instruction , but had still further enjoyed their acquaintance in the mother Lodge . The other speakers made complimentary reference to the

Lodge and its prospects , and also expressed their determination to do all that lay in their , power to ssenre the advancement of its Fast Master to the position of Grand Treasurer . The toasfc of the Treasnrer and Secretary was nexfc submitted . The Master regretted the absence of their Bro . Willing , who had beeu called npon fco instil a Master afc another meeting . The Secretary

of the Lodge was one of the best Masons to be found . Ho worked hard , he worked well—bufc , above all , he was willing in tho discbarge of his duties . His aim was ever to assist the Master in the work of the Lodge , and with this object in view he conducted the affairs of the Lodge in a most zealous and painstaking manner . This was especially noticeable in connection with the summer festival of tho

Lodge , the success of which was a gratifying testimonial fco the ability of Bro . Perks . The Secretary acknowleged the toast , thanking the Master and brethren for his reception . He felt he had been Secretary so long thafc they ought to look around for another , a remark that called forth strong expressions of dissent , the general opinion being that no

one conld be found to better discharge the duties of Secretary than the present occupant of the office . The Officers wero toasted , and each in turn having replied , the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a conclusion . The musical arrangements for the meeting were under the direction of Bro . William Price , and were generally appreciated .
