Compliments Of The Season.

Compliments of the Season .

WE cheerfully avail ourselves of the opportunity of tendering our readers the heartiest of good wishes at this festive season , and trust each may in due course start upon the New Year in good health , and enjoy prosperity and success therein . *** ### ** # * # * # * # ***

HONOURS IN COMPANION LODGES . A VERY pleasing innovation , has been inaugurated by one of the Medical Lodges of the metropolis—the Rahere , No . 2546—which has passed a resolution electing the

Worshipful Masters of the other ; Lodges associated with the Hospitals of London as honorary members during their year of Office . These include the Middlesex Hospital Lodge , the Chere Reine Lodge , the London Hospital Lodge , and the

Cheselden Lodge , and we anticipate each of them will follow the example thus set , and thereby create a round of Fraternal intercourse which should be productive of the very best results "

We describe this as an innovation , and believe at is entitled to that distinction , although somewhat similar hospitality has been extended in many parts of the country on special occasions , generally at the installation meetings . It

is customary to invite the Masters of neighbouring Lodges : in some of the Provinces , and in London we have long had an instance of the same kind in the recognised " Jewish " Lodges , which have made it a custom to invite the Masters

of each other to their installations , but the Rahere has gone a considerable step further , by actually electing the Masters of the companion Lodges as honorary members during their term of Office .

This idea is one likely to be favourably received in many quarters , the ever increasing number of " class" Lodges particularly lending themselves to its adoption , and ere long we shall expect to see a number of mutual " attachments "

which will put London Freemasonry , in particular , on a different footing , and place it in possession of an enjoyable adjunct which it has hitherto lacked , but which , to a certain extent , as we have said , has been long practised in different parts of the Provinces .

We believe the University Lodges both at Oxford and Cambridge are in a measure associated with each other , and that members of both have certain privileges as regards one

or more London Lodges , but we think this is the first time that actual honorary membership has been arranged for , and we regard it as a feature which will well repay general consideration and wide-spread imitation .

****************** The Borough of Greenwich Lodge of Instruction held a dinner and concert at the William the Fourth , East

Greenwich , on Friday , 6 th mst , Bro . J . W . Roeier W . M . 2332 presiding . A gold locket and chain , suitably engraved , were presented to Bro . G . P . Carter P . M . Preceptor , in recognition of his services .

THE House Committee have decided that the Christmas entertainment to the pupils remaining during the holidays shall take place at the institution at Clapham J unction , S . W .,

on Thursday , 2 nd January next . Tea and coffee will be served at 5 o ' clock , followed by Punch and Judy at 5 . 45 , dancing at 6 . 30 , conjuring and ventraloquial entertainment at 7-30 , and refreshments at 8 . 30 . Bro . Henry A . Hunt , as Chairman of the month , will preside . '

****************** ... Considerable enthusiasm is being evinced in connection with the proposed testimonial to the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Cheshire—Judge Sir Horatio ^ Lloyd P . G . D . —on his celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of his initiation into

Freemasonry ; and we anticipate a goodly sum will be raised for the Benevolent Institution of the Craft , to which the recipient desires the money to be paid . A Brother well known in the district , speaking at a recent meeting in' reference to the matter , said there were fifty-seven Lodges in the Province ,

and if only each Lodge raised £ 50 it would make a nice little sum . This of course means something like £ 3 , , which is a very large amount to collect for such a purpose , but we believe it is not a really wild estimate of what will be

forthcoming ; in fact we shall not be surprised if it turns out to be a very fair forecast of what actually occurs . We trust it may prove so—and even that this early estimate may be exceeded , large though it undoubtedly is .

Bra J . Percy Fitzgerald P . M . 1364 2168 2427 Secretary of the Logic Club and other well known Brethren are desirous of securing the election of Charlotte George to the benefits' of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . The applicant

is 64 years of age , widow of the late Bro . Sampson George , who was initiated in the New Concord Lodge , No . 813 , in 1873 ; he was W . M . in 1880 , and remained a member for many years . He was also P . Z . of the Canonbury Chapter , No . 657 , and a Life Governor of the Royal Masonic

Institution for Girls . Bro . George was at one time partner ma wholesale jewellery business , but the firm failed , and his life became a hand-to-mouth struggle . At his death , in December 1899 , his widow was left without any provision whatever . Proxies may be sent to Bro . Fitzgerald , at Linacre , Balmoral Road , Willesden Green .

********** On the occasion of the installation meeting of the United Northern Counties Lodge , No . 2128 , held early in the month at the Inns of Court Hotel , a presentation of nearly £ 60 was

made to Bro . W . H . Bullock P . M ., in recognition of his Secretarial efforts on behalf of the Lodge . Bro . Bullock subsequently gave notice of motion that fifteen guineas be voted from the Lodge funds on behalf of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , and a like sum for the sister Institution .

Miuuuuuutjut A VIII A TV A Wit KK Bro . C . J . Smith Provincial Grand Treasurer of Essex and P . M . of 2504 , has been installed , at the Ship and Turtle , Leadenhall Street , as the Worshipful Master , for the second time in five years , of the Victoria Diamond Jubilee Lodge ,

No . 2675 . At the installation meeting a sum of five guineas was voted out of the funds towards erecting a monument to the memory of Bro . J . F . Sanders , the late W . M ., who died during his year of Office . It was also resolved to hold a Ladies gathering in February .
