Reports Of Meetings.
Bro . Fells , on rising , was most enthusiastically received . He said he was delighted to see such a nice company , and hoped the ladies had , and would continue to enjoy themselves . He was sorry he omitted in the toast reference to their Secretary Bro . Davey , as the whole of the arrangements for the enjoyable gathering had been carried out b } him . He sincerely thanked Bro . Spice for his kind remarks .
¦ Bro . Davey said it was doubly gratifying to him to see the ladies and visitors so heartily enjoying themselves . He hoped to have many opportunities of assisting in similar enjoyable entertainments . Whatever he could do for the Lodge he was always happy to undertake .
The W . M . once more rose and said he could not let the opportunity pass without thanking the Stewards for their excellent assistance . The party then repaired to the ball room again , to finish the final part of the programme . Several encores were given and dancing was kept up much later than was expected .
Great compliment is due to Bros . A . E . Green , W . Hattersley , and F . W . Clark , who acted as Masters of the Ceremonies , for the ability they displayed m securing partners for the fair sex . INSTALLATION OF BRO . CAPT . JOHN TURVILLE SMITH . THE annual meeting and festival of St . John took place at the Victoria Hotel , Manchester , on Monday , 2 nd inst . The principal business of the day was that of installing Bro . Capt . J . Turville Smith J . W . into the chair of K . S ., the ceremony being performed by the retiring Master Bro . Major P . Nightingale , assisted by
Past Masters of the Lodge . The Senior Warden ( Bro . Capt . Wm . Geo . Heys ) is at present with the British army in South Africa , his unhesitating response to his country ' s call causing in his own person an unavoidable cadency of descent so far as Masonic interests are concerned .
The Festival of St . John followed , among the visitors present being Bros . C . D . Cheetham 993 G . D . Eng ., Capt . John Barlow P . M . 1260 P . P . G . S . W ., G . O . Brookes P . M . 1009 , Freclk . Todd W . M . 236 3 , and Wm . Hamilton P . M . 1345 . A prominent and popular figure at the above meeting was Bro . Lieutenant-Colonel John Howarth Clark , V . D ., J . P ., Treasurer of
the Lodge , who was re-appointed to Office . Since the installation however , death , that uncompromising and indiscriminating leveller of all , has marked him for a victim , and has snatched from things mundane one of the most genial and thorough-going Englishmen of which Manchester , with all its excellent citizens , could proudly boast . ********** Lodge of Freedom , No . 77 . THE Worshipful Master Bro . F . W . Martin presided at the meeting of this Lodge , held on Monday , at the Public Hall , Gravesend , when he was supported by his Officers , Bros . Joseph Davis

After the usual preliminary business Bro . ; H . H . R . Brown having proved his capacity in the former degree , was raised to the sublime degree , and took his seat in the Lodge as a Master Mason . The ceremony was very admirably rendered bv Bro . Martin , and
the traditional history was given by Bro . George Masters P . M . Mr . Arthur John Shade was approved by the Brethren as a fit and proper person for Freemasonry , and was initiated by Bro . Joseph Davis I . P . M ., the ancient charge being delivered by Bro . R . J . Beamish P . M .
Bro . Hitchens Treasurer gave notice that at the next meeting he would propose that the sum of ten guineas should be placed by the Lodge on the list of the W . M ., who is going up as Steward at the next Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . A vote of condolence was passed with the family of the late Bro .
Thomas Deane , a highly respected member of the Lodge , who was its Master in 187 S , and received Provincial purple as Grand Standard Bearer in 1891 . Out of respect to his memory the Brethren appeared in mourning , and there was no music or singing at the subsequent supper .

Earls Court Lodge , No . 2 7 65 . THE weekly meeting held at the Greyhound Hotel , Kensington Square , W ., on Thursday , 12 th inst ., was as usual well attended . The W . M . Bro . W . Binfield appointed his Officers as follow : Bros . H . G . Cox S . W ., G . C . Stafford J . W ., John Worth P . M . Preceptor , J . H . Cumming acting Sec , W . McNaughton S . D ., Henry Webster J . D ., F . Stovold I . G ., and amongst others we noticed H . J . Seal P . M ., M . J . R . R . Spring , and F . Stephens .
Lodge was opened to the second degree and Bro . Spring answered the questions and was entrusted . The ceremony of raising was rehearsed , and Lodge resumed in the first degree . The W . M . having announced his intention of working the initiation ceremony Bro . Stephens offered as candidate , and it was proceeded with .
Bro . H . G . Cox was elected to act as W . M . on the occasion of the next weekly meeting , and Bro . John Worth the Preceptor asked those present to congratulate Bro . Binfiekl on the first class manner in which he had rendered the ritual , observing that he was certain that unless Brethren attended Lodges of Instruction frequently they could not expect to carry out the duties of W . M . properly when elected to that position .

banner , the property of the Lodge , was placed behind the chairman . This was greatly admired , and possesses more than usual interest to the members , having been personally designed , embroidered , and put together by Mrs . Williams the esteemed wife of Bro . Arthur Williams a P . M . of the Hammersmith Lodge and V . P . B . G . P . Bro . Gale the Secretary and Bro . Barnett the Steward had so well arranged that no difficulty arose in any way in the guests being comfortably seated without that confusion which frequently occurs .
THE second annual dinner took place on Wednesday , nth inst ., in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall , Hammersmith , and there was a . large gathering of local Freemasons and their ladies . Bro . W . Hillier P . M . and Preceptor occupied the chair , and was supported in the vice chair by Bro . Harry Warren Treasurer and W . M . of the Hammersmith Lodge . The Council Chamber was nrofusely decorated for the occasion , and a magnificent silken
Grace having been sung , the dinner , provided by Mr . W . Chubb , of Wandsworth , was served and evidently gave satisfaction to all present . The toast list was then proceeded with . The chairman proposed the health of the King , and the solos of "God save the King" was sung by Bro . G . W . Turner . The toast of H . R . H . the Grand Master and Grand Officers
present and past having been duly honoured , Bro . Carpenter ' proposed that of the Preceptor , Treasurer , and Secretary of the Lodge of Instruction . Bro . Gale Secretary said he was glad to report that since the recuscitation of the Lodge of Instruction the number of its members
had greatly increased , and now stood at over one hundred . It had become most popular in the district , and had maintained a large average at its weekly meetings at W ycombe House . He could assure the members that he would do all in his power to make those who could find time to attend comfortable .
Bro . Hillier Preceptor said his endeavours to teach the duties to those who attended had borne greater fruit than he had expected , in fact he was more than gratified with the success of his pupils . Pie would take the opportunity of saying that he had been greatly assisted in his labours by Bro . W ' arren the Treasurer , who had been instrumental in finding them the pleasant and comfortable quarters
in which they met . He thought the time had arrived when they should show to Bro . Warren , in a tangible form , the respect in which they held him . He had left this matter in the hands of Bro . H . Woods , with the result that a subscription had been made by the members , and he was glad to say that they were enabled that
evening to present Bro . Warren with a small token of their respect and esteem , not only to remind him that his labours at the Lodge of Instruction were appreciated , but also on account of the fact that they were within a few days of the anniversary of Bro . Warren's silver wedding .
The present took the form of a magnificent silver plated tripod , with a spirit lamp and kettle , the latter bearing a suitable inscription , and Bro . Hillier added that he trusted Bro . W ^ arren would live many years to use them . Bro . Warren , who was conducted to the Chairman by Bro . Woods , in responding thanked all present for their kind gift , and
