Complimentary Dinner To Bro. Charles Riemann.

COMPLIMENTARY DINNER TO BRO . CHARLES RIEMANN .

WE are very pleased to announce that about one hundred friends of Bro . Charles Riemann Steward of the Zetland Lodge , No . 511 , assembled - on Thursday , it the Spaten Restaurant , 33 Newgate Street , City , to partake ¦ of a complimentary dinner given in his honour , Mr . J . C . Bardili , the . manager of the London Depot of the Spaten Brewery Co ., Munich , presiding .

Bro . C . Riemann has already gained the reputation of having one . of the . ; best bouses in the neighbourhood for the sale of the celebrated Spaten Beer , and also has the confidence of his numerous customers for providing the best of viands , coupled with an excellent style of cooking , while in regard to theall important matter of prices the charges must be set down as exceedingly moderate .

' Amongst the numerous friends we noticed Bros .. H . . Dehane P . P . G . S . D . Essex , C . Fink , W . Cheesewright , John Callings , J . Kohl , Hill , Charles ' Strobalm , Wynman , and several others , with Mr .. Henry Dehnel ( of the Horse Shoe , Tottenham Court Road ) . The first toast submitted by the chairman of the eveningwas that of Her Majesty the Queen , the Prince and Princess of Wales , and the pthier members of the Royal Family , which was proposed in hearty and suitable terms , was well received , and followed with musical honours . .- ,

The Chairman next submitted the health of Bro . Riemann . He spoke of the popularity always enjoyed by Munich Lager Beer , and referred tq the splendid business done in it in years gone by ; but great improvements had : taken place in other branches of catering and this , among other well known establishments , could not stand against the serious competition . But the . Spaten Brewery was not a concern to be shut up quietly , especially under the ] present manager , who had set about to see what was best to be done . His .

first care was to put the house in good order , and then find a good caterer , and for the latter he had selected the best he could discover , in Mr . Riemann . He had had good opportunities of judging of that gentleman ' s capabilities , and was convinced he was the right man in the right place , and those who . supported him might rely on being well catered for . He concluded by calling , ' on the company to drink to the health of Mr . and Mrs . Riemann , which was done in hearty manner .

Bro . Riemann returned sincere thanks for the way in which the toast had been proposed and received . The very kind expressions of the chairman on his behalf would induce him to strive in the future to make the business a really good one . He had already had great encouragement , and would not leave a stone unturned to make the establishment ; as good as ever it ' was .

No doubt if visitors were satisfied they would tell their mends and would also come again . He was indebted to the company for responding so heartily to the call to dine there that day , on this special occasion , and thanked all most heartily for their good wishes toward his wife and himself . He trusted he should have the pleasure of seeing them at the establishment again on ' . many future occasions .

Mr . F . H . Cheesewright proposed the next toast—success to the Spaten Brewery . Most of those present hacL , experienced the delight derived from a ' draught of Spaten beer ; there was really nothing more refreshing on a hot day . He felt the company would heartily join in wishing success to the firm who brought them something from Germany they could tolerate , and in doing so would specially honour Capt . Sykes , whose name he coupled with the toast .

Capt . Sykes responded on behalf of the Spaten Brewery Co . He felt some hesitation in replying , inasmuch as he was not the present representative of the firm , but a former one . He thanked the company for the way in which they had honoured the toast , and looked forward with satisfaction to a great extension of the business .

Mr . G . Hinton proposed the toast of the press . As a retailer of newspapers he knew there was always something to be said through the medium of their columns . He hoped the press would retain the confidence of Englishmen and foreigners alike . The name of Mr . Headlock was coupled with the toast , which was duly acknowledged .

Mr . W . J . Straus proposed the health of the chairman , whom he had known for a number of years in connection with the Spaten Brewery—which was one of the most famous firms in Germany , occuping there a somewhat similar position to what Guinness' did in Ireland . Capt . Sykes supported the remarks of the last speaker , and joined him in wishing the chairman health and future prosperity in his work for the Brewery , as well as in his private life .

The Chairman made suitable reply , after which the Visitors and others were toasted , the proceedings being extended to a late hour . We heartily congratulate Bro . Riemann on . the excellence of the banquet he provided on this occasion , while a word of praise is also due to his staff , for the attention they bestowed upon the company . The evening was enlivened with the efforts of many well know artistesj Bro . J . Collings presiding at the piano .

Mr . W .
