rpHE Provincial Grand Master of the Prov . Grand Lodge of Auckland - » - ( Scotch Constitution ) , Mr . F . A . Whitaker , has been made a Knight Commander of the Order of St . Michael and St . George . Tho fact became known in the City of Auckland on the 31 st January , and at the regular communication of the P . G . Lodge held on that day , over which the Hon . Sir F . Whitaker presided in his capacity of Provincial Grand Master , occasion was taken to congratulate the
R . W . P . G . M . on the honour of Knighthood conferred on him by Her Majesty , and of which intimation had just been received . Brother W . McCullough , who occupied the Junior Warden ' s chair , said that at the request of the members of the P . G . Lodge , to whoso knowledge it had come that Her Majesty the Queen had conferred on the Hon . F . Whitaker , their R . W . P . G . M ., the honour of Knighthood , he had to
offer the congratulations of the P . G . Lodge . It was a very pleasing duty on his part , a duty which he esteemed an honour . It was a recognition they all thought was richly deserved by their worthy Master , and the gratification of the Lodge was extreme that it had been conferred on him , as they felt it an honour to themselves as well as on such a distinguished member of their Order . They were highly
gratified when the Hon . Sir F . Whitaker took the position of first P . G . M ., when the P . G . Lodge was instituted six years ago , and they sincerely trusted that he would remain amongst them to occupy bis honours and position for many years . It was an hononr to Scottish Masonry in the colony when he accepted the position of P . G . M ., and the recognition of his eminent services to the colony by his elevation
by Her Majesty to the dignity of Knighthood not only had given pleasure and gratification to the members of the Grand Lodge , but to the colonists of New Zealand . It was his pleasing duty to offer to their P . G . Master the hearty congratulations' on bis Knighthood by Her Majesty . Choir : " God Save the Queen . " Brother Dewar , who occupied the Senior Warden ' s chair , said the brethren in the west
heartily reverberated the congratulations offered to their P . G . M . from the south . A formal motion to have the congratulations of the P . G . Lodge recorded on the minutes was put by Bro . Anderson , Substitute Master , who , in doing so , expressed his pleasure aa well as that of the members , in joining in the vote that this should be placed on their records . The resolution was unanimously carried .
The P . G . M ., Sir F . Whitaker , in reply said that for the last six years he had held office as P . G . M . of the Scottish Constitution , and during that time he bad received the fullest support and every consideration from the Grand Lodge officers and members . It had now pleased Her Majesty the Queen to confer on him the honour of Knighthood , and whatever he might think of the honour , and whether it was
deserved or not , he was greatly pleased that the P . G . Lodge had recognised and congratulated one of their leading men on the honour which had been conferred on him j that apart from all other coosiderations , when the honour was conferred on a Mason , it was recognised by them . It added greatly to the pleasure he felt on receiving this honour , conferred by Her Majesty , to be thus
congratulated by the P . G . Lodge , and he returned them his sincere thanks . There was a very large amount of general business , which was , however , greatly simplified by the fact that the P . G . Secretary , Brother James Slater , had placed in the hands of the members printed reports . Those consisted of the Secretary ' s report for the year , the minutes of tho meetings held during the year , and the
annual bn lance-sheet . These were prepared with great care and scrupulous exactness . The worthy Secretary was on all sides warmly congratulated on the snecesful and intelligible manner in which these facts had been collated and presented to the members .
