ZION LODGE , No . 1798 . npiIE regular meeting of the above Lodge was hold at the Grand -L Hotel , Manchester , on Wednesday , the 12 th inst ., Bro . Alfred de Botton W . M . The minntes of the last regnlar meeting having been read and confirmed , Brother Rideal introduced the subject of an instruction Lodge , of which he had given notice of motion , and a debate took place as to the expediency of

forming a Lodge themselves , or of joining one which was already in existence . As an outcome of this debate , several members announced their intention of being present afc the next meeting of No . 581 . The nsual festive board followed Lodgo business , Loyal and Masonic toasts were hononred , songs and sketches rendered , and the evening was spent in a very pleasant manner . Brothers Fisher and Rideal , in

speeches which were of an excellent character , dilated npon the value of Freemasonry . The former said that so far as he was concerned it wonld be allied with grateful feelings which would accompany him so long as memory lasted . It was very gratifying to know - that while in office the brethren rallied round him , and had contributed to help

htm safety through a very arduous year . Reverting to his Past Master ' s jewel , he said that the words inscribed upon it represented the ideality with which the brethren were good enough to surround him . Brother Rideal went throngh the list of Officers , pointing ont some especial attribute of each , and concluded by saying that the W . M . ought to think himself well supported .

ARDWICK LODGE , No . 2185 . rptlE first general meeting nnder the Mastership of Bro . James -i- Hayes was a very successful one , there being three ceremonies performed , viz ., two initiations and a passing . The first was thafc of Mr . George Gosling , a gentleman from Bradford , Yorkshire , and the other Mr . Henry Gaythorne Walker , a prominent tradesman of Ardwick . Brother W . J . Mailing P . M . Seoretarv initiated both

gentlemen , ho being assisted by Brother R . W . Atkinson J . W ., who presented the working tools and delivered the ancient charge . The passing of Bro . S . Kindler into the second degree was undertaken by the Worshipful Master , and for a first attempt was a very creditable performance . He was assisted by Brother J . VV . Atkinson S . W ., who presented the working tools of this degree . Two guineas were voted to the Mellor Testimonial Fund , after which the Lodge was

closed in peace and harmony , and the brethren adjourned to the festive board . Besides those mentioned above , tho following brethren were present : —Bros . B . Booth I . P . M ., XV . DUKE OF YORK LODGE , No . 2449 . A very successful meeting of thia Lodge waa held at the Palatine Hotel , Manchester , on Thursday , tbe 13 th inst . After the CJiilirmation of minutes , Sir . John Brinkley Marshall was balloted tor aud initiated by Brother William T . Sohotield Worshipful Master P . M . 1219 P . P . G . J . D ., who performed the whole of the

ceremony . He also passed into the degree of a . Fellow Craffc Brother Alexander Graham Bryce ; Brother S . Mamelok P . M . Treasurer passed Bro . Campbell Houston ; and Bro . William Boden P . M . S . W . passed Brother Thomas Dean Lightfoofc ; the Worshipful Master undertaking the task of delivering the charge to theso three

brethren , while Brother William Boden presented the working tools . Visitors , to the number of seven , were attracted to witness the mode of working in this new Lodge , and we have reason to believa thafc they went away perfectly satisfied with tho result . The next business was to approve and confirm the bye-laws of fche Lodge , which

was done . We have had the privilege granted to ns by Brother Clement John Hall Secretary of inspecting the handsome set of books belonging to this new Lodge , and were struck with the neatness and precision with which each entry was made . The minute book is a marvel of clear writing and lucidity , and contains a

perfeet history of the Duke of York Lodge , from its inception down to its present stage , every letter and document of any description bearing npon tbe subject being copied so as to form a permanent record . The Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the festive board , where fche usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were

agreeabl y relieved by songs and sketches by Brothers Hall , Stott , Hardicker , Leigh , and Taylor . In adc . ition to thoso already mentioned , there were present : —Brothers Jaraea Andrew P . M . Marx Deputy Preceptor , Disc n W . tf ., Hewson S . W ., Truman J . W ., Blundell Treasurer , Bonham Secretary , Becker S . D ., Sillis J . D ., Webster I . G ., Mason , Klein , Taylor , Webster . Tho Lodge was opened in due form with solemn prajer , aud the miuufcea of the previous meeting were read and continued .

Tbe Worshipful Master then vacated the chair in favour of Brcfcher Becker , who opened the Lodge in the second degree , performed tho ceremony of passing , with Bro . Taylor as candidate , and closed thi Lodge iu the second degree . The Worshipfnl Master then resunai d the chair . Bro . Marx worked the first and second sections of the first

lectnre . Bro . Webster 957 was unanimously elected a joining mem . ber . Bro . Hewson was elected Worshipul Master for the ensuing year . A hearty vote of thanks was unanimously accorded to Brother Dixon for the able manner in whioh he fulfilled the dnties cf ths chair for fche first time . All business being ended the Lodge was closed in due form .

Lodge of Instruction , No . 581 . —A meeting of thia ever-popular Lodge was held at fche Old Boar ' s Head , Manchester , on Thursday , 13 th April . The proceedings were commenced at 7 * 30 , Brother Robert Lingard assuming tbe principal chair ; Brother G . T . Lenard Treasnrer that of S . W ., and Brother E . Loebell thafc of J . W . After the reading of the minutes by Brother Alfred Hebden P . M .

P . P . G . D . D . C . Secretary , and the confirmation of the same , a ballot was taken for Brothers Harry G . Beckwith 152 and Frank Walter Mee 163 , the same being in their favonr . Two ceremonies were rehearsed , viz ., that of initiation and passing , the first being essayed by Bro . Lingard , Bro . Wm . Jones acting as candidate . The working tools in this degree were presented by Brother Loebell , whom we are

very glad to seo is coming to the front . The ceremony of pasiing was performed by Brother A . C . Wilson , Brother Lenard acting as candidate on this occasion . Bro . Hebden announced the gratifying fact that he had five propositions to place before the brethren from the Zion Lodge , No . 1798 , the names of the intending new members being Brothers George Rideal P . M ., Walter Fowden , Walter Marshall , Alfred Smith , Joseph Kirkman Heywood , the first three

Crusaders Lodge of Instruction , No . 1677 . —Held at the Northampton Arms , Goswell Road , on Friday evening , 14 th inst ., when there were present : — -Bros . Willison W . M ., Humphreys S . W ., Griffith J . W ., Hunter P . M . Treasurer , Sbakell S . D ., Wren J . D ., and several brethren . The Lodge was opened in due form and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Dimea acting as candidate . Brother

Oliver answered the questions leading to the second degree and was entrusted . Tbe Lodge was opened in tbe second degree . Brother Humphreys at the request of the W . M . assumed the chair . The ceremony of passing was rahearsed . Bro . Willison resumed the chair . The Lodge waa resumed to the first degree . Brother Wren wns elected W . M . for the ensuing week , and Lodge was closed in due form .

Chiswick Lodge of Instruction , No . 2012 . —A meeting was bold on Saturday , the 15 th inst ., afc the Windsor Castle Hotel , Hammersmith . There were present—Bros . A . Williams W . After preliminaries , the ceremonies of initiation and passing were rehearsed , the candidate having undergone the nsnal examination . The investiture of Officers was also rehearsed , and Bro .
