letter which he had received within the last few days from their present Treasurer , Bro . George Plucknett . Bvo . McLeod then read the following letter : 46 Connanght Square , Hyde Park , i 11 th April 1893 .
To the Governors and Subscribers ot tho Eoyal Masonio Institution for Boys . Brethren , —I desire very respectfully to bring to yoar notice that I do not propose at the next Quarterly Communication to offer myself for re-election as Treasurer to tho Institntion .
My interest in the welfare of the Institntion is undiminished , but I think the time has arrived when a- change should be made . It wonld be wanting in duty on my part were I not to express to you my sincere thanks for the confidence which you have reposed in me for 20 years as Treasurer , and five years previously as a member
of the House Committee , making together 25 years consecutive service in the administration of the affairs of the Institution , and it has been most gratifying to me to have seen within those years the progress whioh has been made in the School , aud the increase in the
number of boys from 100 to 260 . In conclusion , I earnestly hope for the continuous prosperity of the Institution , and that it may always realise the expectation and the wishes of the Craft . I havo the honour to b ? , brethren , yours faithfully and fraternally ,
( Signed ) GEOKGE PLUCKNETT . The Chairman said thafc thafc letter having been read , Bro . George Everett would make some observations , and then lay an observation before fche meeting . Bro . George Everett rose and said , that prior fco the
election of a new Treasurer he had to submit a resolution to the meeting , which he was sure would be received with great heartiness aud passed with the greatest acclamation . The motion was " Thafc fche Governors and Subscribers of this Institution desire to place on record their high
appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the Institution by George Plucknett , Esq ., P . G . D . as Treasurer to the Institution for the lasfc twenty years , and hereby tender to him their mosfc hearty thanks . " The brethren had heard the letter read in which ifc was stated that Bro . Plucknett had
for twenty-five years taken the deepest interest in the affairs of the Institution , five on the Committee and twenty as Treasurer . The Institution and its supporters owed
Bro . Plucknett a deep debt of gratitude for the manner in which he had performed his dnties and for the great interest he had always taken , and did still continue to take in the Institution . Time was when Bro . Plucknett was
very active among them , but he now felt from increasing years that he had not been able to pay so much attention to the hard work as ho had previously devoted to it . The brethren all regretted to hear of Bro . Plucknett ' s resignation of the office of Treasurer , still' tbey could not , as he
desired ifc , but accept it , and with great regret they lost thc services of a brother who had performed all his duties of Freemasonry in a mosfc exemplary manner . Brother Everett concluded by formally moving the resolution . Bro . Henry Smith seconded . Bro . J . P . Fitzgerald asked whether the resolution
should not also express the wish of the brethren that the vote should be engrossed on vellum and presented to Brother Plucknett . Bro . George Everett said he should bo happy to add that to the resolution .
The Chairman , iu putting the motion , with thc addendum , supported by Bro . Fitzgerald , endorsed all thc observations that had been made abont Bro . George Plucknett , who had devotsd a number of years of his life
to Masonry and to the Institution . They all hoped that his interest in fche Institution would be continued for many years to come . He felt that the brethren were only doing their duty to themselves a * well as to Bro . Plucknett in seconding this vote of thanks to him . The motion was
carried unanimously . The next business was the election of Treasurer iu place of Bro . Plucknett . The Chairman said that before proceeding with thafc business , be wished to observe thafc the brethren
must recognise the fact thafc the office was rot by any means a continuous one : it was annual only . He regretted , however , that the resignation came so late , as ifc did nofc give the brethren an opportunity for obtaining the views of many desirable brethren as to whether they would consent to be put in nomination for thc vacant office .
Bro . C . E . Keyser said he rose with a sense of greafc responsibility to propose the election of a new Treasurer for tlio ensuing year , and he did so because , as the Chairman had pointed out , there had been only two days given by their lato Treasurer to obtain a aaccessor who waa equally
