PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF SOUTH WALES ( EASTERN DIVISION ) .
THE Annual Meeting was held at Brecon , on Thursday , tho 13 th inst ., under tho banner of tho Brecknock Lodge , No . G 51 . Tlic Lodge Avns held in the Town Hall , which was tastefull y fitted np as a Lodge room . At one end thero was a raised dais , on which thero wore shrubs , ferns , and plants , Avith pedestals of bine , Avhite , and gold , surmounted Avith flowers , vases of nWers being interspersed . The windows Avere darkened with scarlet curtains , the interior being
lighted with gas . Afc the other end of the Hall were the names , printed in colours , of the whole of tho Lodges ( 11 ) of tho province . The following mottoes adorned tlie walls : — " Provincial Grand Lodge , South Wales , Eastern Division , " " May all Masons ever bo the Pattern of Virtue , " "Prosperity to Masons and Masonry , '' "May every Mason attain the Summit of Masonry , " " Give Relief to all
Indigent Brethren , " "Peace , Plenty , and Unanimity , " "May Sincerity , Charity , and Peace , bo Established in onr Lodges , " "A Cordial Welcome to Brecknock Lodge . " The wholo had au artistic effect , and reflected great credit on the artist employed . The Lodge was opened at half-past one o ' clock , by Bro . Richard Webb , W . M . of tho Brecknock Lodge . The Officers of tho Grand
Lodge were then announced , and received with the usual honours . The chair was taken by Bro . Marmadnko Tennant , tho Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master , who was supported by his Officers and a large nnmber of brethren from various parts of the province . A letter from the Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Sir Georgo Elliot Bart ., M . P ., expressed his regret at not being able to be present .
Tho Prov . Grand Secretary read the minntes of the Provincial Grand Lodge held last year at Aberdare , at which Sir George Elliot Avas installed , and also the minntes of Provincial Grand Lodge held subsequently nnder the banner of tho Glamorgan Lodge , Cardiff , both of Avhich wero received and adopted . Letters were also read from Mr . 0 . R . M . Talbot , M . P ., Lord Lieutenant of tho County , in
reply to copy of resolution passed at the Cardiff meeting in reference to the great loss Freemasonry had sustained in tho death of his son , Bro . Theodore Mansel Talbot , late Provincial Grand Master ; also a letter from Bro . Edward J . Morris , late Deputy Provincial Grand Master , in reply to a resolution passed at the same meeting . Both letters were ordered to be entered on the minntes . Letters of
apology were also read from Bro . Colonel Philips the Worshipful Previncial Grand Master for tho Western Division ; from tho Deputy Provincial Grand Masters for Monmouthshire aud Gloucestershire , and other brethren of distinction , expressing regret at not being able to be present . ' The Treasurer ' s accounts for tho past year were received ; and Bro .
Canton W . M . of the Indefatigable Lodge , Swansea , Avas appointed Provincial Grand Treasurer , in tho room of Bro John Jones , of Aberavon , Avho retires by rotation . before the Provincial Grand Lodge their usnal annnal report , and aro pleased to be able to express approbation of the satisfactory working of the several Lodges of the Province . Petitions from brethren at Bridgend and Penarth respectively , for the formation of new Lodges in those districts , have recently , with tbe approbation of the Right Worshipful and Provincial Grand Master , been presented
to Grand Lodge . During tho past year , Brother Marmaduke Tennant , tbe Worshipfnl the Deputy-Provincial Grand Master , acted as Steward for the Girls' School , Bro . In consequence of tho largo number of votes now required to secure the election of a candidate to either of tho Masonic Schools—moro particularly to the Boys' School—this Provinco is now much indebted for votes to the Provinco of tho
Western Division of Sonth Wales and other Provinces , Avhich must bo repaid during the ensning year . This circumstance renders tho task of successfully returning tho first-named candidate at the next election , by tho culinary method , unusually difficult . It in , therefore , recommended to the Lodges of the Provinco and tho brethren generally , that a special effort be immediately made to raise a sum of 170 guineas for tho purchase of his admission to tho
Boys' School , and that the said sum of 170 guineas shall form part of a larger sum of 500 guineas , if hereafter determined npon , to bo collected for tho purpose of purchasing the privilege of ensuring the admission and maintenance of ono boy from the Provinco during the life of somo brother to bo hereafter fixed npon , and subject to such conditions as may hereafter be agreed upon by this Committee .

had signally distinguished himself in connection with tho Masonic Charities , and had also acted as Steward to the Masonic Schools . He alluded to their worthy Deputy Provincial Grand Master , who had collected a largo amount of money on behalf of the Schools . Ho now had tho pleasure to present to their worthy brother tho jewel which fell to his lot , nnd he was quite sure that no brother in
the Province moro richly deserved it . In presenting tho jewel , ho also presented to him , on behalf of the Province , their best thanks for the highly satisfactory Avay in which ho had performed the duties which he had undertaken . The Depnty Provincial Grand Master thanked tho Lodgo for tho honour they had conferred upon him . Ho could only say that if he
had no jewel whatever , ho should have been more than satisfied in knowing that he had done what he could in so excellent a canse as Masonic Charities . The sum of 40 guineas Avas then voted for the Masonic School for Boys , and 20 guineas for tho Girls' School . It was stated that last year not less than £ 1 . 00 had been sent from the Provinco towards
tho School Funds and other Masonic Charities . On the motion of Bro . Webb , the sum of five guineas Aras voted to tho Brecon Infirmary . Thero Avas also £ 7 Is collected in Lodge , which was ordered to bo handed over to the Vicar to be dispensed for charitable purposes . After the Lodge had been closed in due form , tho brethren adjourned to the Castle Hotel , where a sumptuous banquet had been prepared

Hall , in proposing the toast of the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , spoke of the Masonic services he had rendered , not only to his Province , but to all the Masonic Charities . Bro . Marmaduke Tennant , in responding , thanked tho brethren for the very hearty manner they had received tho toast . Masonry had its charms for him , but some twelve months ago , when
tho appointment of D . P . G . M . had been offered to him , he had certainly hesitated before accepting it , and had ho known that tho duties of the Graud Master himself would , in somo measure , havo devolved npon him , ho Avould have hesitated still more . He sincerely thanked the brethren for the way in which thoy had received the
