Initiate who , he explained , had been a personal friend for a number of years , as was his brother Charles " ( also a recent initiate of the Lodge ) . He prophesied of the candidate of that evening that he would be an acquisition to their ranks , and he called upon the Brethren to accept the toast with enthusiasm .

Bro . Beswick responded , and although at the onset he deprecated the fact that he could scarcely find words in which to express his sentiments , yet managed to produce a distinctly good impression by a decurtated but nevertheless racy speech .

Duke of York Lodge , No . 2449 . THE regular meeting was held at the Albion Hotel , Manchester , on Thursday , the 13 th inst ., Brother Simon Mamelok P . M . P . P . G . J . D . Worshipful Master . The summons contained the heavy list of seven ceremonies , six of which were performed .

After the reading and confirmation of minutes , a successful ballot was taken for Mr . Samuel Charles Wood , Electrical Engineer , Ola Trafford , who was initiated into the mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry . Bro . Timothy Shawcross was
