Lewes Centenary.
LEWES CENTENARY .
EXCEPTIONAL interest attached to the annual installation meeting in connection with the South Saxon Lodge , No . 311 , at Lewes , it being the one hundred and first gathering , and fche Lodge having obtained centenary honours from Grand Lodge . The meeting was held on Wednesday , 20 th inst .
The incoming Master Bro . Walter Flint ( Uckfield ) was duly placed in the chair by his predecessor Bro . James Peters , of Newhaven , and the latter was presented with a Past Master ' s jewel in recognition of his services , and also with the special
centenary jewel . The Secretary Bro . EL Granger , Newhaven , also received the special centenary Secretary ' s jewel . The attendance of members of the Lodge and visitors was unusually large .
The annual banquet took place at the White Hart Hotel in the evening , about forty Brethren being present . The W . M . was in the chair , and in the course of the speeches felicitous references were made to the centenary of the Lodge . The music was supplied by Miss Edith Welling , Miss Blanche Day , and Mr . Argyle Galloway . Mr . Horace Jackson was the accompanist .
We have received from Bro . Frank Hitchens , of Gravesend , P . M . 77 P . G . S . of Kent , the Manual for the Province of Kent for 1897 . Bro . Hitchens formerly assisted our lamented Bro . T . S . Warne , of Bochester , in the compilation of the work , and
upon the latter ' s decease he was appointed by the Provincial Grand Master to carry on the duty . The book has been brought quite up to date , and contains a vast amount of information relative to the Masonic work of the Province . We cordially congratulate Bro . Hitchens upon his first essay as editor .
