eiation with the Fraternity had endeared him to the hearts of all the Craft : and with respect to the Pro and Deputy Grand Masters , the growth and prosperity of the Craft was due in an eminent degree to the interest taken therein by those distinguished noblemen—the Earl of Carnarvon and Lord Lathom . Introducing the toast of tho Vis iters , the W . M . remarked npon the quotations from Oliver Goldsmith , which appeared after each toast on the

programme" Blest be the spot where cheerful guests retire To pause from toil . " He said that it afforded him much gratification to see such a large muster ( fifty-one ) ; tbe Urban Lodge was famed for its hospitality , bnt he thought it waa due as much to their desire to witness the work of Bro . Fairchild inside fche Lodge room as to partake of the

" good cheer" provided at the banquet table . Several visitors responded , all of whom expressed themselves highly delighted with what they had witnessed . Bro . Fairchild having obtained permission , then rose and proposed the health of the Worsbf pf nl Master—Bro . Charles Hawksley—in eulogistic terms . The W . M . in reply thanked the brethren for the hearty manner in whioh the toast had been

received . He was surrounded by friends who wonld remember his introduction into Masonry ; he was told then he mnst strive to occupy the chair next to which he sat the night he was initi ited , and his aspirations had been realised , yet not without a struggle ; he was ambitious , and passed through tbe chair in another Lodge ; but he must own he felt a certain amount of pride in filling the position he then

held , it being his mother Lodge . He was also pleased to find there would be work for him to do , and he trusted , with tbe assistance of his Officers , to carry out the duties of the chair to the satisfaction of all . Tbe Worshipfnl Master , in proposing the health of the I . P . M . and Installing Master , Bro . G . E . Fairchild , said thafc tbe able manner in whioh he had discharged the duties of W . M . during the

past year , and particularly the work performed that evening , entitled him to the best thanks of the Lodge ; ifc afforded him sincere pleasure to be enabled to present to Bro . Fairchild tbe jewel which had been voted by the Lodge in recognition of those services , and he trusted he ( Bro . Fairchild ) would long be spared to wear it . Bro . Fairchild thanked the W . M . for his kindness in proposing , and the brethren for their reception of the toast . He bad tried to perform

his duties in such a manner as he hoped wonld give satisfaction , and in doing so he had done his best . Tbe health of the Past Masters was then proposed , and Bros . Carpenter and Pearson responded . The Wardens and other Officers , followed by the Tyler ' s toast , in quick succession , brought a lengthy but enjoyable meeting to a close . Several musical selections , including a violin and piano solo , were interspersed with the toasts , by Bros . Lehmeyer , Tinney , and Konigsberg . Bro . Very was reappointed Tyler .

It was an interesting sight to witness the ragged regiment of little Limehousers on Wednesday , when they crowded round the new hall of the London Cottage Mission , at Salmon ' s Lane , Liraehouse .
