MUCH regret is expressed at Lewes at the death of Bro . George Langridge , of Hill Top , Prince Edward Road , which occurred very suddenly . The deceased had a lengthy and serious illness some little time ago , which left him in a'weak

state , and on Tuesday evening , 12 th inst ., he had an alarming attack of hemorrhage , and lay all night in a critical condition In the morning there was no improvement and his medical attendant , Mr . Steinhauser , called in expert advice , but it was unavailing , the end coming within twenty-four hours . Bro .

Langridge was a member of the Pelham Lodge and also an Oddfellow . He was for many years one of the old 4 th Sussex R . V ., retiring with the rank of Sergeant , and obtaining the long service medal , three of his sons inherit their father ' s love for volunteering , two of them holding

noncommissioned rank in the present D Company 1 st Cinque Ports Rifle Volunteers , and the third being a recruit . The eldest would have proceeded with the active service Company to South Africa last year , but for the state of health of his

father and uncle . Bro . Laneridge was also one of the promoters of the Lewes Rowing Club , in which he always took the greatest interest . The deepest sympathy is felt for Mrs . Langridge and her family in their loss .

THE death is announced of Bro . J . G . Smith , which occurred on Wednesday , 13 th inst , at his residence , South Park , Hexham . His health began to fail a couple of years ago , and his illness some nine months ago took a very serious turn . His lire was then threatened . Though he recovered ,

he never attained to the . robust and vigorous state he previously enioyed . Bro . Smith was well known in Northumberland and Durham as an auctioneer and valuer , his

unerring judgment and ability in his profession having brought his professional services in much request in all parts of the North country for many years past . The deceased was a member of the Lodge of Industry , No . 48 , Gateshead .

A LARGE congregation assembled on Wednesday in St . Paul ' s , Ludgate Hill , Birmingham , to attend the funeral service of the late Bro . John Warrillow , of Handsworth , who died very suddenly on the 1 st inst . The Masonic Order , of which the deceased was a distinguished member , was well

represented ; and those present included the Committee of St Paul ' s National Schools , top-ether with a large number of personal friends . The service was conducted by the Rev . W . H . Smith , vicar of St . Paul ' s , assisted by Archdeacon Hodgson , rector of Handsworth .

IT is with great regret we have to announce the death , at the age of 68 , of Mr . David Shaw , father of Bro . Joseph Shaw , of the Skelmersdale Lodge , No . 1658 , and the Duke of Clarence , Vauxhall Street , Kennington , S . E . The funeral

took place on Thursday of last week , at Finchley , and was followed by his sorrowing sons , daughters , and friends . The coffin was covered with some beautiful wreaths . We sincerely sympathise with Bro . Shaw and the other members of the bereaved family .

OUR Brother Councillor Henry Little , member of the Lancaster Town Council for St . Anne ' s ward , and a popular member of the Board of Guardians , died on tne 13 th . He had been six years a town councillor , showing particular interest

in the fire brigade . He caught a chill last election day , and never took the seat to which he had been for the third time elected . He was a prominent Freemason , Oddfellow , and ex-President of the Reform Club .

THE funeral of Bro . vx / 'illiam Frederick Jeffery , of Soho Hill , Birmingham , took place on Saturday , at the Parish Church , Handsworth . The church was well filled with

friends , the Handsworth District Council , of which the deceased was a member , being represented , and also the St . Alphege Lodge , the St . james Lodge , the Birmingham Law Society , etc . The service was conducted by the Rev . I . C . Wall .

BOARD OF BENEVOLENCE .

THE Board of Benevolence held its usual monthly meeting at Freemasons' Hall , London , on Wednesday last , when there was a very large attendance of Brethren . The President Bro . J . H . Matthews presided , Bro . D .

D . Mercer Senior Vice President , and Bro . Henry Garrod J unior Vice President were also in their appointed places . The Grand Secretary ' s Office was represented by Bros . E . jLetchworth G . S ., W . Lake Assist . G . S ., W . Dodd , and G . S . Recknell .

The Board of Masters was first held , and the paper of business for Grand Lodge of 6 th March was submitted to the Brethren . For the Board of Benevolence there were thirty-five petitions to consider , and after the recommendations to the

Grand Master at the January meeting had been confirmed to the extent of £ 450 , these were dealt with by five being dismissed , and three deferred . Relief was extended in one case by £ 150 being referred to Grand Lodge to approve of , £ 75 being referred to the same high authority to sanction ,

with four votes of £ 50 each . For the Grand Masters approval £ 40 was recommended in one case , £ 30 in four others , and £ 25 in two more . Votes of £ 20 each were made in eight cases , £ 10 in one , and £ 5 in five cases ; the total being £ 830 .

Cornwall Charity.

CORNWALL CHARITY . of over £ 3 70 . From the commencement of the fund in 1864 to the end of last year the total receipts have been £ 13 , 282 , and the disbursements £ 6 , 515 , leaving £ 6 , 767 in hand , of which all but £ 46 is well invested , and yielding a revenue of £ 274 per annum . The accounts have been audited by Bros . Joseph Rogers and W . T . Hawking .

THE annual report of the Cornwall Masonic Annuity and Benevolent Fund shows that six annuities to aged Freemasons , eleven annuities to Widows , and seven educational grants are now in force , involving the annual expenditure

Unity Mark Lodge , No . 544 . THERE was a large gathering of Mark Masons on Friday afternoon , 15 th inst , at the Masonic Hall , Hope Street , Liverpool , where the Unity Mark Lodge was

consecrated with the usual ceremonial . It was expected that the Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom Prov . G . M . M . would have been present to preside at the runction , but his lordship was prevented from attending , in consequence of his presence at the Grand Lodge in London , for the appointment of a new Graria Master in succession to King Edward VII .

Lord Lathom ' s place was taken by Bro . W . Goodacre P . P . G . O ., who performed the Consecration and installation ceremonies with impressiveness . There were about fifty members of the degree present , including the founders—Bros . J . C . Robinson , R . Shacklady , J ohn Milne , R . G . Bradley , J . J . Boyle , N . Christensen , and R . W . Gow .
